The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 889: Chapter 889: Manager Qiu’s Unease

Fortunately, the staff breathed a sigh of relief now that the person had shown up.

The shopkeeper told him to get busy upfront while he himself went to the backyard to talk with Shu Yu.

Seeing that Shu Yu was completely at ease and had not run away, he assumed that she had not escaped from the exile area. He wanted to find out what had happened and asked what the matter was exactly.

However, Shu Yu got straight to the point and said, ”Shopkeeper, you should have the contract ready, right? Let’s work quickly. It’s getting late, and I still have things to do when I get back.”

As she spoke, she took out a lump of money, ”I heard from my brother that there are still two months’ accounts that haven’t been settled, right? Check the accounts and tell me the amount.”

Seeing this, Manager Qiu had nothing else to say and went to fetch the contract and the account book.

Both parties had already reached an agreement, and the process was quite expedient.

The amount Manager Qiu spoke of for settlement was the same as what Daniu had said, so Shu Yu did not hesitate. She paid the money, concluded the contract, and left straight away.

The shopkeeper stood at the entrance of the cloth shop, frowning as he watched their departing figures.

With no one in the shop, the staff quietly approached him, ”Shopkeeper, what’s wrong? Shouldn’t your mind be at ease after settling the contract? You seem rather unhappy.”

The shopkeeper rubbed his forehead, ”I just have a feeling of unease, and I don’t know why. Also, Lu Shuyu dares to appear so openly in Jiangyuan County, it would seem likely that she no longer has any cases against her, plus she has connections with the county magistrate...”

He sighed halfway through his words, shook his head, and turned back to the counter.

Meanwhile, Shu Yu walked towards Ningshui Street feeling relieved, accompanied by Daniu. Upon arriving at Yiren Pavilion, she checked the inventory.

There were still quite a few ready-made clothes, and with the fabric they acquired yesterday, maintaining the shop’s operations for a short period should be no problem.

She planned to survey a suitable house tomorrow, discuss the renovation plan, and then sell the manor, allowing her to find another source of goods in the prefecture.

Shu Yu’s plans were well thought out, but who would have known that the next day, the clothes in the shop would be completely sold out.

After bidding farewell to Daniu and Zhou Qiao, she headed straight back to Liufang Alley.

She didn’t need to search; she just knew that the new house they rented would be where the mule carriage was parked in Liufang Alley.

However, the old lady still had the children wait at the entrance. As soon as they saw her, Sanya stood up, grabbed Xiaozhen and Baoya by hand, and ran towards her.

”Second sister, you’re back.”

Shu Yu walked over with a smile, ”Is our newly rented house right here?”

”Yes, indeed. It’s even bigger than the previous one,” Sanya led her by the hand into the house.

Everyone in the courtyard was busy. As there were many helpers, and the fact that Xiang and her daughter had come over to clean up first after the house was rented, the yard was almost tidy now.

Then the old lady quite ruthlessly sent everyone away, ”Alright, it’s getting late. You should all go back earlier; it’s not safe too late at night. Take the mule carriage outside, and return it here tomorrow.”

Lu Sanzhu was visibly indignant. They—or rather, his wife—had been busy for so long, but Mother actually didn’t ask them to stay for dinner before leaving.

Really, she was too insensitive to conventional social etiquette.

Yet in front of Shu Yu, he didn’t dare to complain and could only take his wife and child to leave the place.

Unexpectedly, Madam Liang headed toward the mule carriage in the courtyard and then laboriously carried out several bags of stuff from the carriage.
