The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 862: Chapter 862 The Golden Bracelet Given by the Old Lady

The old lady was pleased and went inside to fetch a bracelet, slipping it onto Zhou Qiao’s wrist.

”This bracelet was prepared by me a long time ago, it’s not anything expensive. You’re a good child; I want to give it to you as a token of this old woman’s sentiment.”

Though the bracelet was made of gold, it wasn’t very heavy, but for an old country lady, it was already a very precious item.

Shu Yu knew that the old lady had bought this bracelet back when she was still living in Heichang County.

In fact, when Daniu and Zhou Qiao initially got engaged, the old lady had prepared a silver ring for her. In her eyes, Zhou Qiao, as the eldest bride of the family, had a different status.

Even though the silver ring wasn’t worth much either.

However, later on Zhou Qiao had to observe three years of mourning and since Lu Erbai broke his leg, leading to the Lu family’s financial struggles and inability to even cook, the old lady sold the silver ring.

Now that life had improved and the old lady had more money at hand, both Lu Erbai and Shu Yu would make sure she had plenty of spending money.

With money in her pocket and because she wasn’t able to attend her eldest grandson’s wedding, the old lady felt a bit guilty and thus specifically chose a golden bracelet as a gift for her.

Zhou Qiao dared not accept it. At the time of her wedding, her mother-in-law had only given her a piece of fine fabric; she felt uncomfortable accepting such generosity from her grandmother.

”Take it. It’s Grandmother’s heartfelt gift. Just be good to her from now on,” Daniu whispered to her.

He knew his grandmother well; the old lady wasn’t the type to pretend to be something she wasn’t. If she didn’t have money, she might have given a wooden hairpin instead. Now that she presented such a bracelet, it must mean that she could afford it.

Only then did Zhou Qiao accept it and sincerely expressed her thanks.

The old lady waved her hand, ”Alright, no need to kneel, I’ve already had the tea from my eldest granddaughter-in-law. Let’s eat quickly.”

Daniu and Zhou Qiao helped each other up and each took one of the old lady’s arms to assist her toward the kitchen.

Shu Yu had already set out the meal, ”Eat quickly, it’s going to get cold soon.”

”And you say that, buying some wine and dishes took you so long, I thought you were bought with the groceries,” the old lady said with a teasing smile, pointing a finger at her.

But speaking of this made Daniu feel a bit guilty, ”Grandmother, it’s not Yu’s fault, it’s mine.”

He explained the incident that happened at the cloth shop.

Lu Erbai felt it strange, ”Did the cloth shop’s shopkeeper change? Why the sudden change of attitude?”

”No change,” Shu Yu said indifferently while eating a bite, ”They just saw an opportunity. Knowing that I’ve been exiled, they naturally look down on our shop. No worries, I’ve already terminated the contract with them. Later, I’ll go to the prefecture to look for a suitable cloth shop. It’s not like we can’t run a ready-to-wear clothes shop without them, right?”

The old lady was shocked, ”How does even the shopkeeper at the cloth shop know that you’ve been exiled?”

”Probably the whole county town knows by now,” Shu Yu had figured this much out from the moment she heard what the second aunt from the Zhou family had said.

But the old lady wasn’t prepared for this news and looked towards Xiang and her mother Fu Xiangdi.

Xiang and Fu Xiangdi exchanged glances and nodded slightly, ”Yes, Liufang Alley has been talking about this matter for some time.”

Daniu felt even more remorseful, ”Grandmother, this incident, it’s our fault.”

”What’s the matter, tell me about it properly,” the old lady urged.

Even if Daniu didn’t say anything, Shu Yu could roughly guess the process.

It must have been Eldest Aunt’s dispute with Eldest Uncle that had caused all this commotion.
