The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 885: Chapter 885: Preparing to Repair the Ancestral Tomb

”As for the Ge Family, I used to think they were decent, but now it appears they are the kind who can share wealth but not adversity. Isn’t there a saying, ’When misfortune strikes, husband and wife fly separately’?”

While speaking, she kept glancing at Madam Li and asked her with an emphasized tone, ”Right, Sister-in-law?”

Madam Li’s face turned dark. She knew what Madam Liang meant. Wasn’t it because she had contemplated divorce upon hearing of Yu’s exile?

But wasn’t she also doing it for the sake of the children? Who could have known that Yu’s fortunes would turn around?

Madam Liang snorted coldly, thinking that today was supposed to be a day for a happy reunion, so she refrained from arguing any further to avoid ruining the atmosphere.

Turning her head, she continued to Lanhua, ”You see, it’s good that you recognize the Ge Family’s true colors early on, to prevent them from harming you in the future. Besides, you are still young. Yu hasn’t even gotten engaged yet, so there’s no need for you to hurry, right, Yu?”

Shu Yu, ”...” You’ve said it all, what more can I add?

But she actually agreed with Madam Liang, so she nodded her head and addressed the pitiful-looking Lanhua, saying, ”Aunt San speaks roughly but sensibly; the Ge Family truly isn’t a good match. Moreover, you haven’t come of age yet, so there’s indeed no need to hurry.”

Lanhua was a few months younger than her. Although girls of fourteen or fifteen in those times usually had their marriages arranged and were viewed as a prized catch in the eyes of outsiders, girls at that age were still physically immature and it was indeed inappropriate for them to marry too early.

Shu Yu said to her, ”When we were returning from the southwest and passed through the prefecture, there was a female doctor in the Medical Hall, whom I have previously met. She told me that it’s actually better for a girl to get married after eighteen. Marrying too early and having children not only greatly increases the likelihood of the children being unhealthy, it also has an impact on the girl’s own lifespan. So there’s no need to rush, let’s take our time to look. You’ve got plenty of options.”

Lanhua was surprised, ”There’s such a theory?”

Shu Yu nodded affirmatively.

Lanhua breathed out a sigh of relief. It had to be said that she felt greatly comforted by Shu Yu’s words.

During this period, not only had Madam Li not gone out, but neither had she nor Erniu.

The reputation of a woman whose engagement had been canceled was inevitably greatly impacted.

She even felt that she might not be able to marry in the future and would have to stay at home as an old maid, which was truly an unbearable thought.

But now, with Yu’s affirmation, she suddenly felt as if it wasn’t such a big deal.

Such as the Ge Family, they don’t deserve her.

Seeing her mood improved, Shu Yu didn’t say much more.

However, regarding Erniu being dismissed from school, if he still wished to study, the original private school was indeed not suitable.

But Master Wen would be a good choice, though there was no rush now. It would be better to discuss this matter directly with Daniu.

The group chatted, and the old lady also woke up.

Seeing that it was getting late, the old lady asked Lu Sanzhu to go to the village chief’s house to call Lu Erbai back, as they should head back to the county town.

Two mule carriages, filled with a crowd, made their way out of the village spectacularly.

The people from the main house saw them off, looking somewhat reluctant to part.

Shu Yu stood beside the mule carriage and said to Lu Dasong, ”Eldest Uncle, I want to refurbish our ancestral grave and will need your help to consider what procedures are necessary and how much money will be needed. We should hire some people and pick a date to prepare everything properly.”

Lu Dasong was stunned, ”You, what did you say? Refurbish the ancestral grave?”
