My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1779: Chapter 1573: Fortress

When the feelings between us gradually became a kind of monotony for us both, though you were so precious at the time, when the longing amongst the flowers fades over time, why must we continue to sleep in the memories?

Xia Jing looked at her husband, still indifferent as ever, feeling ever more anxious inside. She didn’t want to continue being the scapegoat for this matter, she didn’t want to be seen as the villain in everyone’s eyes once again because the endings to all these matters were never what she desired. But why, after everything unfolds, does all the responsibility continually fall on her shoulders? Must she really bear the blame?

”I hope you can think it through clearly. I’m bluntly telling you today that the person making this decision today is me, but you, without distinguishing right from wrong, are planning to leave with me. What kind of person do you think that makes me in everyone’s eyes? They’ll only think I’m inciting you to leave and abandon them again. I don’t know what everyone’s real feelings are deep down, nor do I want to do this but I hope, as my husband, can you consider my standpoint as your wife for once?

Do you really want me to shoulder this blame again? You know how many times I’ve taken the blame over these years. Now, because of you, I have to endure public opinion again, pushing me into the storm, and everyone will think it’s because of me that you’re leaving with me. All the neighbors will think I’m an unfilial daughter-in-law, causing your husband to abandon his own father again. How will others view me? Do you even know how many times you’ve put me in danger? I’ve never cared before, nor complained, but today I can’t endure it anymore. I don’t want something that has nothing to do with me to end up pushing me into the eye of the storm, which would be too unfair for me.

If you could care for me even a little, just a little, I wouldn’t be like this now. I only wish you would consider things carefully. Each decision carries its corresponding responsibilities. Don’t make decisions rashly in a moment of heat. You may think your decision is correct, but to me, it might not be. I hope you can always and forever think about things from my viewpoint, just a little, would make me much happier.

Everyone is here now, and I truly hope that we can explain everything face to face. Today’s matter has nothing to do with him, and even less with me. I’m just saying I want to leave on my own. If he insists on leaving with me, I hope everyone doesn’t push the responsibility onto me again. I’m really not that scapegoat. I can’t let you place the blame on me again and again, making me endure all the sins while you enjoy yourselves. You all think everything is my fault and that I deserve the blame and pressure from others.

Sometimes thinking about it, the innocents hurt by our lives, what about us? We are just as innocent. Being repeatedly driven out of the home and having all errors placed on us, we’ve suffered in silence. Just one mistake, and we’ve silently endured the immense pain and sorrow you brought us. We have no other ways but worked hard again and again to show everyone that everything I did was right. I can’t let anyone look down on me. Do you know how painful that pressure is?

Today, I’m speaking out, making everything crystal clear. It proves I absolutely won’t take the blame for anything henceforth. I won’t allow anyone to easily pin all the errors on me. I have no responsibility, nor duty to bear the consequences of your mistakes and the public opinion it brings.”

At that moment, Zhang Zhentian suddenly realized if everything he had done was truly wrong. Every time he did something, it was his wife who bore the pressure of public opinion, never him. But back then, he even criticized his wife’s actions as excessive. Did any of that really relate to his wife? It seemed everything was the consequences of his own actions. What right did he have to blame his wife, who was but an innocent repeatedly dragged into danger, with all responsibilities dumped on her shoulders? She had no way out because she was his wife and could only bear it on her own.

Perhaps the decisions he once made were truly wrong. Maybe he never made a correct decision, thinking back to how laughable it was, naively believing every decision he made was right, every path was a sunny avenue. Reflecting now, he saw countless irreparable mistakes he committed, pressing him down into an old man with no means to live.

”I’m sorry. I never considered your feelings, putting you under the pressure of public opinion repeatedly and making you endure pain. I’m truly sorry. I never thought my actions would bring you these predicaments. I just wanted to provide you a stable life, but ultimately failed what I hoped for and what you desired. I’m unsure how to treat you, but all I want is to sincerely keep you by my side. I’ll spend my entire life quietly accompanying you, never abandoning you. Even if you wish to leave, I’ll follow your steps, being there for you at every moment!

You might think I’m selfish, inattentive to the views of relatives, but do you know? When a man truly loves a woman to the marrow, he’d sacrifice everything for her, feeling it’s all worth it. I don’t understand how to express that feeling to you. It’s a feeling from the deepest of emotions, inexpressible in words. I am happy just wanting him next to me, just wanting seeing him the moment I open my eyes each morning, feeling like I have the happiest life!

Your views may differ from mine completely, but that’s okay, I don’t mind. What I care about is if I can keep her by my side, ensuring she never gives up on me for life...”

The moment you turned away, before I had a chance to pull you back, you had already vanished. Do you know how much I wish for you to come back to me?
