My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1770: Chapter 1564: Distance

I never imagined the world could one day become even quieter than I imagined.

In that moment, it felt like I could hear the clear sound of a pin dropping on the ground.

”Nai’er, this is something Dad did wrong, but can you try to understand Dad from his perspective? Lately, I have indeed neglected your mom, but it wasn’t intentional. You know there have been many things happening at home during this period.

Some things were not what Dad wished for, but when faced with those things, we had no choice but to deal with them. Everyone will inevitably pay some price for their actions. Our current situation is really not easy. We all wished for your grandparents to return and live peacefully in this family, instead of blaming them whenever something happens or you have issues. How could they live happily and peacefully under such circumstances? We all should consider their feelings, shouldn’t we?

Dad knows your mom’s depression bothers you deeply. Ultimately, it’s due to my neglect, my lack of care and attention to her, that has led to this outcome. But believe me, this was never my intention. I genuinely hope she can live healthily. Who would have thought just because I didn’t care for her during this time, didn’t look for her, or left her to feel forgotten, it would lead to this? I am truly sorry for this!”

”Dad, you should not apologize to me for these matters. You should talk to Grandpa. I believe Grandpa will definitely take Mom’s side. No one expected this situation would lead Mom to fall sick and end up hospitalized.

None of us desired this outcome. Everyone hopes for each family member to live happily and healthily. Now that things have come to this, the person you should apologize to isn’t me; whom you should seek acceptance from isn’t me, but your Grandpa. Think about how much he cares about Mom, because it takes so much effort for her to bring me into this world. Why don’t you consider Mom’s difficulties from Grandpa’s perspective? You always stand on your own side, longing for what you once wanted, building your happiness upon others’ pain. Do you think you will find peace in your heart?”

Zhang Yichen felt apologetic as he listened to his son’s words, unable to find anything to refute. This indeed was his mistake. Had it not been for his neglect, for him disregarding his wife, how could things have come to this? If this all truly relates to him, wouldn’t he become a sinner for eternity? How should he explain this to his Grandpa?

Deep down, he understood—his Grandpa truly cares a lot about her, this granddaughter-in-law. He deeply cares whether every member of the family can live peacefully. Now, things had developed to this point, his Grandpa wouldn’t rest until addressing it. Perhaps he really should have a proper talk with his Grandpa to clarify all of this to avoid future issues.

”Don’t worry, I will talk to my Grandpa properly about this. There’s no need for you to worry too much; this isn’t your responsibility. It’s because of me that your mom ended up this way. If you feel anything is inappropriate, come talk to me. You don’t need to discuss any of this with your grandparents; they don’t realize mom’s illness is a result of these matters. All these changes remain unknown to everyone. No one wants such issues to affect anyone in our family.”

”Dad, just relax, trust me. I won’t speak to my grandparents about this. I won’t ask or say anything else. The solution is up to you. If resolving this ends with everyone in the family considering it unfair, then I think all of this is beyond our ability to resolve.”

Zhang Yichen understood, this was his son’s warning. If he couldn’t restore everything to its original state, he would face his Grandpa’s punishment. His Grandpa’s character was too well-known; he couldn’t allow any family member to end up like this. This was something he absolutely couldn’t tolerate. Yet now everything was beyond his control; he had no way to predict or restore things to how they were. He could only bear the danger his son brought to him silently. At this moment, he realized his son was scarier than he thought. If he had cared a little more about his wife, shown more concern for her life, perhaps now his son wouldn’t lead him by the nose, wouldn’t uncover his father’s failings?

Zhang Ni didn’t say anything, turning to leave. He felt he’d said enough to his father today. He had never talked to anyone so politely. If it didn’t involve his father, he would’ve made that person yield. But now he realized none of this was something he could interfere with easily—that it was an issue of his parents’ relationship. If their relationship could withstand any hardship, it wouldn’t have resulted in this situation. He couldn’t blame anyone else; all the pain and suffering had to be endured by them. If things became uncontrollable, it would mean these challenges were destined for them.

Zhang Yichen suddenly felt like an unfit husband. Why did he remain unaware when his wife was sick? Why was he unwilling to show more care for his wife’s life? If he paid a bit more attention, his wife wouldn’t spiral into madness like this. Everything resulted from his negligence, leading to this ending. What difference was there between him and his parents? Besides causing harm to his family, he had nothing else to offer. He thought he was strong, believed he could bring happiness and joy to every family member, yet now, it’s merely the beginning.

I’ve long known nobody in the world can truly empathize; no one can experience all my pain and memories!
