My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1756: Chapter 1550: Maybe

Have you already had someone else in your heart? Is that why you haven’t come to find me till now?

Zhang Zhentian knew that everything his son said was the truth, but throughout his life, he really only ever wanted to love deeply once—to love Xia Jing wholeheartedly.

He felt that finding someone to genuinely love in one’s life is truly not easy, even though the person he loves doesn’t feel the same way about him. But if he can love her, then what does it matter?

If one always insists on efficiency, on whether others reciprocate, always thinking that one’s efforts will lead to gratitude from others.

If life is really like that, then what’s the point of living in this world? Living would mean merely trading with others for satisfaction—what kind of true love could you find then? Others would only see your efforts as transactions, then would they still want to be with you?

”Son, everyone sees things differently. Don’t try to impose your ideas on me because it’s unrealistic. If my heart is set on loving her, no matter what anyone says, nothing will alter because of your decisions. Let go of that thought.

No matter what, she is, after all, your mother.

You should show at least the minimum respect to your mother. Whatever happens between us has nothing to do with you. Live your life steadily, and there’s no need to involve yourself. Doing so will only make you seem remarkable to others; acting this way won’t be rewarded nor praised!”

Zhang Yichen was almost driven half-mad by his father’s anger; everything he did was only for his father’s sake. Why, in his father’s eyes, was everything he did considered wrong? Was he truly incomprehensible?

All he wanted was for this family to be stable, for his mother to realize how much his father loved her, so she could be moved, even a little, to love him back—even just an ounce.

But in his father’s eyes, his actions were nothing but redundant; not only would he not thank him, he’d feel Yichen was meddling too much.

”Do whatever you want, I won’t interfere or inquire anymore. It’s up to you how things are with my mom. I meant well to help you, but you think I’m harming you!

No matter how much complaint or resentment I have, I won’t hurt you because you’re my father. I am upset with my mom, but I’ve never wanted this to cause discord between you.

You underestimate me; don’t I have even the basic principles of being a person? Just because you abandoned me, does everything I do have to be vengeful?

Vengeance is not my intention; I don’t act with revenge in any situation. If I truly wanted to retaliate, it wouldn’t just be mere quarrels. Some things I don’t say, but it doesn’t mean I can tolerate them. Being repeatedly wronged by you—what am I to you in your eyes? You recklessly accuse me without ever considering what I truly want.

No matter how much you’ve wronged me, I won’t retaliate. I haven’t studied hard all these years just to waste it all. I’ve pushed myself to the pinnacle of life, do you think I’d ruin my whole future just to retaliate against you?

Risk my entire life’s happiness and destiny just because of a past impulsive act? I’m not a fool, I wouldn’t do that because it’s simply not worth it!

When I chose to tell you these things today, yet you cruelly suspect I’m harming you, as I turn around, I won’t involve myself with you anymore. Do what you will, it has no effect on me!

Because there are no ties between us anymore, I just want you to clearly understand that some things should be done, some things shouldn’t, some things must be done, and some things should never be condoned. Since you’ve made this decision today, whatever consequences follow, don’t blame others for not reciprocating.”

After Zhang Yichen finished saying this, he really turned and left. He felt if he stayed any longer, he would suffocate; he meant well to help his father, but why, in his father’s eyes, was he merely harming him?

Does he truly look so menacing that everyone must avoid him on sight?

Xia Jing knew her son was about to come out; she hurriedly turned away.

She must not let her son know she stood outside and heard everything. If he realized it, his opinion of her might worsen. Although she knew her son’s words were not malicious, from her perspective, her heart still ached slightly.

But that’s her son, so why does he have such a huge bias against her?

In her son’s eyes, it seems she’s nothing but a wretched mother. No matter what she does, it seems useless; no decision seems right. Why did she become someone her child has such a bias against?

Upon hearing her husband respond to her son’s words, her heart was filled with discomfort.

She treated her husband like this, yet he still defended her repeatedly when others spoke ill in front of him.

Why can’t her heart open up even a bit towards him?

If she could just open up her heart a little, letting him into her life a little bit, would the outcome be completely different? Every man desires nothing more than his wife to genuinely love him, not always thinking about other men—this is too cruel.

Maybe she really should learn to reach out to him, because if he truly turns away one day, then only then would she realize what she’s lost, and by then perhaps it would be too late?

Perhaps the world is really fair, forcing everyone to abandon things they never wanted to let go in their lifetime, so they can accept the unbearable truth...

Endlessly guessing, maybe I really do hate you? Maybe I have to forget!
