My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1773: Chapter 1567: Accident

Ran Zhihan was walking alone on a wide road, recalling all the times he had refused to admit defeat.

He knew he had once disguised his thoughts all the way to his prominent memories, but he also knew that when he and his husband reached that day, it was hurting each other between them.

He knew at that moment their greatest wish was for both of them to be happy, just for the sake of each other’s happiness, but when he knew he could no longer retain even the status of an observer, he was truly sad—he knew his love was nearing its end.

Scenes that he had deeply engraved in his mind over the years played back in his mind, those were the experiences he went through step by step; how could he let him endure his neglect again and again by his side?

When he realized there was no way to fix everything, he knew it was impossible to turn things around.

”Child, Grandpa knows it’s Grandpa and Grandma who owe an apology to you and your father, as well as to your great-grandfather. However, so many years have passed, we’ve all come to recognize our mistakes. We’ve now returned to this home, even though this return is thanks to your plea. I’m grateful, but some things are not as simple as you imagine, and some words are not easily turned into action. Do you still not understand the crux of the matter?”

Zhang Ni really didn’t want to discuss these issues with his grandfather right now. Every time they discussed these matters, regardless of who was wrong, even when he had the upper hand, some things really couldn’t be explained in just a few words. Decades of abandonment can hardly disappear just because of his sudden return. Even if his father could truly refrain from resenting him, he couldn’t do it himself. He longed all his life for grandpa and grandma to return to him, working hard step by step, facing hardship after hardship. In the end, they returned using such a way to talk to him—how could his heart remain calm?

”Grandpa, I clearly understand what you mean by telling me these things. I also understand that some matters, as you’ve said, can’t be explained in a few words. But at least, you should give me a reasonable explanation, right? I don’t care how my father and my great-grandfather decided to forgive you and grandma with whatever mindset they chose. But I can’t have such broad tolerance as they do; I can’t just see my grandparents in front of me and beg for their return while lowering my dignity, yet you still refuse to give me even a reasonable explanation as to why you abandoned my father, why you abandoned us!

Perhaps deep down, you don’t think abandonment is a big deal. But do you know? For a child, abandonment is a big deal. No child wishes to be abandoned at birth, no child can bear their parents leaving them just as they are born, only to be left at home for the elderly grandpa to take care of. How immense do you think the psychological shadow is for a child? You never considered how my father felt. Even if you give him a reasonable explanation now, what about me? Have I lived a life better than my father’s childhood all these years?

My father and I have walked this path step by step, working harder than anyone, facing tougher ordeals than any, all in the hope that you would come back home, to prove to you that we are truly not the worst. To let you know that abandoning us was a big mistake, but in the end, what was the result? All it left me with was one heartache after another.

Grandma and Grandpa, no matter how you treat my father, and I don’t care how you treat me, I only want to know what kind of mindset made you resolutely choose to leave the family back then—what kind of mindset would make Grandma refuse to acknowledge me as your grandson, preferring to pretend to be a stranger? What made you choose such an ending? What made you willing to use such ways to hurt us but never step out to protect us openly? Why hide behind? What kind of perspective do you think that gives others?”

”Child, Grandma and Grandpa know that over the years you’ve hoped we could step forward to protect you and accompany you. We also know that like your father, you’ve endured much sorrow over the years. Those sour pasts are things we cannot compensate for. We’ve made it clear that back then we acted impulsively—choosing abandonment for our own freedom. We truly regret it now. You have decided to let us return to this home; can you not truly accept us from the bottom of your heart? Surface gestures are not as important as true inner acceptance. We want not just superficial acceptance, but for you to genuinely recognize us from deep inside—we are family.

Everything owed to you, I will strive with all my might to make it up. I will not let such things happen to us again. Nor will I let such things repeatedly harm you again. We’ve now understood how profound our mistakes are—those mistakes have cast large shadows and hits on your life, which we are now aware of. We won’t recklessly act as before. We will consider the bigger picture, and please, consider things from our perspective, will you? Please stop pushing us for explanations, as we really can’t provide more than this.

The more we explain to you, the more you might think we’re hiding the truth, but that’s not the case. We truly made a wrong decision back then and didn’t foresee the outcomes that unfolded. One occurrence led to another; consequently, we were compelled to this point. I regret deeply in my heart. I didn’t choose not to recognize you; I simply dared not to. I feared if I told you then that I was your grandma, you’d turn away, and then I’d never see you again. I didn’t want to leave a bad impression in your heart. I hoped to leave a perfect impression, for you to gradually accept me, rather than choosing to avoid me from the first sight.”

He recalled his grandpa’s words to him, hoping never to experience that again.

Ran Zhihan, while walking, failed to notice the traffic lights and caused a major traffic accident by running the red light!
