My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1762: Chapter 1556: Letting Go

You become worse the more I spoil you; my care for you has turned into harm. I know love cannot be revived; the process, however, was wonderful.

”Zhentian, we should not resent our fathers. No matter what decision he makes, it is his right. As for the mistakes we have made, no one can forgive them easily, just as the decisions we made back then were so disappointing. You even abandoned your own child. I now realize that it requires a ruthless mentality to do such a thing. How could I have had the heart to abandon my own child back then? What consumed my heart? How could I have been so cruel to my own child?

Now returning here, my son choosing to forgive me is already a blessing; why should I worry so much? Wanting my child to forgive me while also hoping my father genuinely accepts me is not an easy task. Heaven is watching, and discovering so many mistakes and being able to return to this home is Heaven opening a path for us. All we need to do is earnestly treat our fathers and accompany our children, contributing to this home. Make this home happy, joyful, and filled with laughter; perhaps Heaven will truly grant us forgiveness!”

”Perhaps what you say is right; as long as our hearts are filled with love, and we are full of love for this home, genuinely giving to everyone here, perhaps eventually Heaven will grant us forgiveness because our father will truly accept us. But how long must we wait for that day?

I don’t even know if I’m really afraid that one day I’ll die without waiting for that day. All I want now is for our father to forgive me wholeheartedly so that I can truly return to this home. For others, it might be too simple, but for me, it’s extremely difficult because my father harbors deep prejudices against us. Due to the mistakes we made repeatedly, he can begrudgingly forgive us and let us return to this home, but making him cherish and accept us is truly hard!

We have committed many wrongs and made many mistakes. What we truly want in life is very simple: we just want everyone to understand our good intentions in the moment. Yet ultimately, the way we acted was always wrong. We used our goodwill to do wrong, hurting someone, and repeated the same offenses over and over without knowing where exactly we went wrong, continuing to make mistakes.

Now, I no longer wish for my father’s wholehearted forgiveness, nor do I hope he will genuinely accept us. I don’t expect us to return to this home. All I want now is for everyone in this home to not be so sad, not so distressed. I just want everyone in this home to be happy, joyful, living happily. I hope to bring them happiness, not pain again and again!”

Old Master Zhang listens to his son and daughter-in-law’s conversation. Being a father, how could his heart be untouched? Only he knows how much he has missed his children over the years. Again and again, he nearly forgot what kind of life he wanted, and he has already forgotten why his son left him in the first place. The only thing he remembers is the day his son left, saying he would never return to this home in his lifetime—words that he cannot forget. As a father, this is a wound buried deep within him. His son is right there, but unwilling to turn back to look at his father!

”You two do the same things here every day, cleaning the house and doing chores. Are you not tired of it? Do you think doing this will earn my wholehearted forgiveness? It’s simply impossible; I know better than anyone what the outcome will be!

When you chose to leave this home, you were abandoning everything here. No matter what happened at home, it had nothing to do with you. What you’ve done deeply hurt everyone in the family. Did you not realize how your actions hurt the family, how much of a devastating blow it was?

You can’t just harm your loved ones whenever you want, only to return saying sorry, expecting it to fix everything. Sorry is not a cure-all.

If I had closed the door to you back then and casually said sorry, would you feel I was genuinely apologizing to you? Would you believe I wasn’t purposely keeping you out? Would my sorry make you let go of all your prejudices and obsession against me?

Deep down, you know the answer is no. No one forgives anyone just due to a sorry. Such forgiveness isn’t real. Mistakes are acknowledged through actions to seek genuine forgiveness from others, not casually saying sorry and expecting everyone to sincerely forgive and accept you. That’s unrealistic!

You are more aware than anyone of the mistakes you’ve made over the years. It’s not that anyone can truly forgive you. Your son has let go of all his biases because he feels having his parents back is a happy thing. It proves his parents genuinely love him. But for me, it’s not possible. As a father, I’ve watched him grow up, felt how hard his life has been, how every day he was in pain, yet never mentioning it to anyone.

The wrong person to apologize to isn’t me; it’s your child. Letting you back home is for him. I can’t bear seeing him lose his parents again and again. He’s now established his own family, and he should have his parents beside him. Moreover, his child hopes for grandparents to be present.

As for whether you’ll earn my forgiveness, it might never happen in this lifetime. If you’re feeling exhausted, you don’t need to do all this. If you’re doing this hoping for my forgiveness, you’re unnecessary!”

Consider it that I owed you in a past life; consider it fate in this lifetime. Perhaps without you, I might be better off.
