Chapter 697: Chapter 308: A Phone Call from Hong Kong Island

“Yurou, I like you. Don’t go. I’ll be good to you for the rest of my life.”

Wang Yurou froze for a moment. Hearing Lin Wanzhou’s sleep-talking, a smile spread across her face.

She sat on the edge of the bed, leaned down to gently kiss his forehead, and smiled. “Brother Lin, I won’t go. I like you too.”

Having lost her parents, Wang Yurou was raised entirely by her older brother. After he sacrificed his life, she was lost in grief for a very long time, unable to move on.

Then there was Brother Lin, the man who had only visited her home once.

He had been silently helping and taking care of her from behind the scenes, wordlessly taking on the responsibilities her brother used to handle.

He said he owed it to her brother and that he would take his place in looking after her for the rest of his life.

At first, she didn’t believe him, thinking he wouldn’t be able to keep it up for long.

But he did it for three years without asking for anything in return.

This moved Wang Yurou deeply.

Or rather, over these three years, she realized she had fallen for Lin Wanzhou, this man of few words.

Wang Yurou didn’t know what love was, but as long as Brother Lin treated her well with a sincere heart, she was willing to spend her life with him.

The only condition was that Brother Lin had to like her, too.

Before, she had been a little unsure.

Now she knew.

Sitting by the bed, Wang Yurou watched him for a while longer before tucking him in, turning off the light, closing the door, and leaving the bedroom with a happy heart.

…

「For the next two days.」

Xu Yun went celibate.

He holed up at home alone, living a life of leisure. He’d lie around reading novels, scrolling through his phone, and watching all sorts of short videos that popped up in his feed.

Occasionally, when he came across a good novel, he would even leave a tip.

And when he did, it was always a Golden Alliance Lord.

While scrolling through short videos, if he came across a content creator he didn’t like, he’d fire back a retort, just as he pleased.

For example, he saw two content creators arguing online. Some rich kid—of questionable authenticity—was mocking another creator, saying that even a dog wouldn’t drive a base model Bugatti.

When Xu Yun saw this, he couldn’t help himself.

He posted a photo of his Valkyrie and commented below: “If his Bugatti isn’t up to snuff, what about my car?”

As soon as the comment appeared, it blew up, thanks to his online fame as “Young Master Xu.”

Bystanders and rubberneckers saw this and jumped into the comments, all piling on the original poster with sarcastic remarks.

“It’s over. A real tycoon has been baited out.”

“I looked this car up. It’s over 30 million, and apparently, it’s the only one in the country.”

“Hey, creator, say something. Cat got your tongue?”

Xu Yun had only made the retort casually. Seeing that the guy was playing dumb, he lost interest and went back to scrolling through videos. When he found something he liked, he’d secretly boost its traffic, paying for a Dou+ promotion.

While he was at it, he also checked his private messages.

‘The female influencer with ten million followers, an expert in intangible cultural heritage he’d messaged last time, apparently hadn’t replied. Looks like I’ll have to find the time to pay her a visit in person,’ he thought.

‘I have to get this clothing situation sorted out before the New Year, so I can bring it back for Mom to wear.’

Meanwhile, after agreeing to Xu Yun’s request, Zhang Jin reported to the film set on time the very next day and had been rushing to shoot all the scenes involving his character.

Cai Shaofen, for her part, accompanied him, watching from the sidelines.

Liang Yan also had the catering for these two days upgraded to the highest standard and, in accordance with market rates, transferred the full payment for their appearance to the couple’s bank accounts.

Although they had said it wasn’t necessary between friends, they ultimately had to accept it due to Liang Yan’s insistence.

During breaks in filming, other junior actors would also ask to take photos with the couple.

The two of them had no airs and turned no one down, earning unanimous praise from the entire crew.

After that night, Lin Wanzhou and Wang Yurou’s relationship progressed significantly. They were separated by a single paper-thin wall, just waiting to see who would break through it first.

Everything was proceeding normally until that afternoon, when a phone call from Hong Kong Island shattered Xu Yun’s peaceful days!

That evening, a private jet made an emergency takeoff from Jiangcheng’s airport.

On the plane, besides the couple, Xu Yun and Lin Wanzhou were also traveling with them.

The flight attendant, Wang Qing, had also been called in to work early on short notice.

After takeoff, she stood to one side, so terrified by the “killing intent” radiating from Lin Wanzhou that she hardly dared to breathe.

After serving everyone, she quickly and quietly sat down in her seat, waiting to be called for service again.

Zhang Jin and his wife were no fools. Seeing Lin Wanzhou’s demeanor, they naturally guessed that something was wrong.

And it was definitely not something minor.

But when they asked, Xu Yun, who looked relatively relaxed, just smiled, shook his head, and said it was nothing. He claimed he just wanted to tag along to celebrate their aunt’s birthday and take care of some personal business on the side.

Only a ghost would believe that.

But since Xu Yun wouldn’t say, the couple didn’t feel it was right to press the issue.
