This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Lung qi stagnation?

Upon hearing this, Ding Yuxue, a teacher of Chinese Medicine, looked perplexed.

When Du Heng saw Ding Yuxue’s expression, he knew she still didn’t understand.

He really couldn’t understand how someone with her level of understanding had been promoted to associate professor.

Director Niu, who had been called over from the Nephrology Department, was also completely baffled.

He didn’t understand. The Child’s problem was kidney disease, so why was Du Heng focusing on the lungs?

Only Director Wu, after some thought, slowly said, ”Lung qi stagnation translates to the deficiency of lung metal.” He then looked at Du Heng and continued, ”If there are also symptoms of dry tongue, hoarseness, and withered skin and hair, are you suggesting that the main cause is excessive heart fire?”

Du Heng nodded. ”That’s exactly what I meant.”

Director Wu whispered, ”Understood.”

Understood what?

Ding Yuxue felt very uncomfortable listening to them.

The discussion between Du Heng and Director Wu was on a completely different level from what the doctors in the Nephrology Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital had talked about. Those doctors had focused on the deficiency of liver and kidney yin. Their explanations were simple, and she could comprehend them easily. However, with Du Heng and Director Wu’s discussion, she could only grasp bits and pieces. If they didn’t elaborate, she wouldn’t understand the point they were trying to make.

The Child had been hospitalized for acute kidney injury. Their conversation, however, started with lung qi stagnation, which was somewhat understandable since the Child had pneumonia. But now, this sudden mention of excessive heart fire seemed bizarre. How did that relate to acute kidney injury?

Ding Yuxue couldn’t figure it out. Seeing that Du Heng and Director Wu seemed to have reached a consensus without further explanation, she, as the Child’s mother and somewhat of a colleague, urgently wanted to know the reason. So, she had to ask.

”Director Wu, Mr. Du, what’s the connection between excessive heart fire and kidney injury?”

”The connection is quite significant,” Director Wu said softly. ”The root cause of excessive heart fire is the decline of kidney water. The lung is known as the mother of the kidney, and when the mother is in trouble, the child will come to the rescue. However, with kidney water insufficiency, it can’t resolve the issue of lung qi stagnation. This inevitably leads to Lung Metal Deficiency. Lung Metal Deficiency will, in turn, draw on the kidney water for support, exacerbating the kidney water insufficiency. It’s essentially draining the reserve.”

Ding Yuxue began to understand a bit more, but she still couldn’t comprehend how such a seemingly small problem could lead to acute kidney injury.

At this moment, Du Heng continued, ”Of course, this is just the trigger. If it were only this factor, the Child would, at most, recover more slowly and be relatively weak after the illness. However, the medications given to the Child for pneumonia treatment, especially the liquid ones, often contain antibiotics. And you should be aware of the effects of antibiotics on the kidneys.”

Ding Yuxue nodded blankly.

However, she now had another question. Other people with pneumonia received similar treatment, so why did her son develop complications while others did not?

Du Heng looked back at the Child and continued explaining, ”Of course, when doctors prescribe medication, they definitely consider that the patient is a Child. But the Child currently has insufficient kidney water, and it’s being forcibly drawn upon. Therefore, regardless of the dosage, it’s like adding fuel to the fire for the kidneys. Treating the lungs while forcibly drawing on kidney qi has inevitably led to the current situation.”
