This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wu Shengnan looked at Du Heng with astonishment. ”I never realized you were such a wicked person,” she said, immediately following up with a cryptic smile. ”But I quite like it.”

Du Heng couldn’t help but roll his eyes. ”You’re really twisted.”

However, as soon as Du Heng finished speaking, Wu Shengnan returned to her normal self, chuckled, and said, ”Never mind. Although she’s a bit mean, she wouldn’t go to such extremes. Besides, I’m not the type to brood over every grievance. Just stay away from her from now on, and everything will be fine.”

Du Heng was not surprised at all by Wu Shengnan’s decision. On the contrary, if Wu Shengnan agreed, that would be something he couldn’t accept.

”Then you can think it over yourself,” Du Heng said, burying his head in his meal. ”But speaking of which, you shouldn’t be too nice to people like her. When you need to be firm, when you need to fight back, don’t hesitate. Otherwise, people like her will definitely think you’re a pushover and will take advantage of you.”

Wu Shengnan smiled and also picked up her chopsticks to eat. ”Alright, you don’t need to worry about this anymore. Now that you’ve stepped in today, I don’t think she’ll use you to make a point in the future. As for my dad, I don’t think she has the gall to provoke him. So, just ignore her.”

”So, you called me over today just to use me, huh?” Du Heng started joking with Wu Shengnan.

Wu Shengnan’s mood lightened considerably.

Du Heng and Wu Shengnan were happily enjoying their meal, but Du Heng was oblivious to the storm brewing in Ding Yuxue’s heart because of what he had said earlier that morning.

”Professor Ding, don’t be so anxious,” a middle-aged man with slicked-back hair said, looking helplessly at Ding Yuxue. ”Even if you need a check-up, you have to wait until the staff in the examination room start their shift.”

Ding Yuxue, on the other hand, seemed rather impatient. ”I’m so pent up inside. Every second I have to hold this in is another second of torment.”

Director Cha gave a bitter smile. ”Professor Ding, we’re colleagues, and you’re a professor of traditional Chinese medicine. Think about it. How could someone possibly confirm a kidney problem just by a glance and a listen? That’s absurd. It’s obvious that person has a grudge against you and is deliberately trying to upset you. If you let it get to you, you’ll be playing right into his hands.”

Ding Yuxue nodded. ”I know. That’s why I need you to help me get the examination report quickly. I want to take the examination report and get an impartial opinion on the matter.”

Director Cha didn’t say anything more. He patted the little boy’s head before continuing, ”I’ve just checked the child again. It’s just pneumonia caused by a cold. So, please, just wait patiently. As soon as the staff from the Inspection Department are on duty, I’ll arrange it for you immediately. Besides, it’s already noon. You might not be hungry, but isn’t the child hungry?”

Ding Yuxue looked down at her son beside her, then agreed with Director Cha and took her son to eat first.

”COUGH, COUGH... Mum, I don’t want to eat, I’m not hungry.” Seeing the food on the table, the little boy shook his head.

Hearing this, Ding Yuxue immediately spoke softly, ”Mummy knows you’re not feeling well because of the cold and don’t want to eat. But you have to eat. You’re growing and need nutrition, and now that you have a cold, you need to replenish your nutrients even more. Be a good boy, listen to Mummy, and eat a little.”

But no matter how much Ding Yuxue coaxed, the little boy still didn’t want to eat. Even when he was finally pressured into it, he only took a couple of hasty mouthfuls before stopping.

Seeing this, Ding Yuxue could only give up. After all, she couldn’t just pry the child’s mouth open and force-feed him, could she?

When the afternoon shift began, Ding Yuxue, increasingly anxious, brought her son to Director Cha’s office once more.

This time, Director Cha kept his word. He not only arranged the check-up for Ding Yuxue but also directly contacted the relevant department, ensuring she could be tested as soon as she arrived—a small use of his connections, one might say.

Forty minutes later, Ding Yuxue held the test sheet, carefully reading through every item. A smirk then appeared on her face, and she quickly walked over to Director Cha with the inspection sheet. She needed Director Cha’s personal confirmation as an expert.

”Professor Ding, I trust you can understand this report, so I won’t go into excessive detail,” Director Cha said, looking at the inspection sheet in his hand. ”It does show a few figures that are slightly elevated, but only by a limited amount. However, this change is likely induced by the lung inflammation. Once the pneumonia clears up, these values should return to normal on their own.”

Listening to Director Cha’s words, Ding Yuxue’s smile widened. ”Thank you, Director Cha. I’ve really troubled you.”

Director Cha smiled and handed the inspection sheet back to Ding Yuxue. ”Professor Ding, even though you’re a teacher of Chinese Medicine, there are some things I still need to say. Traditional Chinese medicine indeed has some remarkable aspects, but we shouldn’t deify it. Now, some people claim they can tell if someone has a kidney problem just by looking. I think that’s fraudulent, because that’s not something a TCM is capable of.”

Ding Yuxue smiled and interrupted Director Cha, ”Director Cha, don’t worry. I told you my purpose for bringing my child for a check-up today. It was solely to obtain conclusive evidence and make that despicable person apologize in person. There’s truly no other reason. Moreover, as a professor of Chinese Medicine myself, there are some things I understand much more clearly than you do.”
