This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng was busy dealing with his own affairs and rarely interfered with other people and things, almost managing to be indifferent to what was happening around him.

However, his radish soup treatment for Lan Changhua’s intestinal obstruction caused quite a stir in the Department of Digestive.

Although this incident was an embarrassment to Director Qian, after sending Lan Changhua back to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine Department, he never showed up again.

But the fact that white radish and mirabilite could treat intestinal obstruction had left an impression on him.

While saving face is important, it’s also crucial not to neglect any opportunity to learn.

Moreover, this white radish and mirabilite formula wasn’t actually a medicine, but a dietary therapy. So, the next time a patient like this appeared, he could let the patient make the soup at home without having to call for a traditional Chinese medicine consultation.

Intestinal obstruction, though not very common in the Department of Digestive, is definitely not a rare disease, especially among elderly and cancer patients, where it is quite prevalent.

Thus, having another treatment option meant having an extra measure at hand.

As soon as Director Qian became interested in this, he closely monitored Lan Changhua’s recovery status. Even though he did not visit him personally, he had a clear understanding of Lan Changhua’s recovery.

「It wasn’t long before his attentiveness came in handy.」

”Director Qian, what’s wrong with my father?” A man in his thirties, nervously clutching a bunch of inspection sheets, looked anxiously at Director Qian.

Director Qian, no longer as guarded as he was a month ago when he first met Du Heng, now projected the image of a highly reliable and experienced expert.

”Based on these test results, my diagnosis is correct: your father has a high intestinal obstruction, which means his intestines are tangled, causing defecation and urination obstruction.”

Director Qian explained the situation to the family member while pointing at the films, ”At the same time, we have discovered the cause of the lower abdominal pain. Look here, there is hernia incarceration.”

The man stared blankly at the films for a moment before asking Director Qian, ”Director Qian, what is hernia incarceration?”

”You know what hernia is, right?”

”Yes, it’s when the small intestine falls down.”

Director Qian nodded, ”That’s roughly the idea. Incarceration means that it’s stuck, and the fallen section of the small intestine can’t return.”

The man scratched his head in confusion and embarrassment. ”Isn’t hernia a disease that only children have? My father is in his sixties; how could he possibly have this disease?”

Director Qian looked at the man solemnly and said, ”While it is true that hernia is more common in children because their bodies are still developing and prone to hernia with strenuous activity, it doesn’t mean that adults cannot get it. Hernia is a physiological phenomenon caused by a weak or defective abdominal wall and is not necessarily related to age.”

The man’s eyes flickered. ”Is that so?”

Seeing the man’s expression, Director Qian shook his head helplessly. Educating people about basic diseases is a never-ending task.

”Your father needs to be hospitalized for observation so we can adjust his treatment as necessary. Go and complete the hospitalization procedures for him.” As Director Qian said this, he handed the man an Admission Form.

The man hesitated for a moment with the Admission Form in hand, then couldn’t help but turn back and ask, ”Director Qian, will my father’s condition be easy to treat?”

”The hernia was likely pushed out due to the intestinal obstruction. Once the intestinal obstruction is resolved, the hernia should resolve itself.”

Director Qian spoke slowly this time, ”As for the intestinal obstruction, we usually try non-surgical treatment first. We only resort to surgical treatment if there’s no improvement. Similarly, if hernia incarceration is not resolved after the intestinal obstruction is treated, surgery may be required as well. But don’t worry too much about it. Even if surgery is needed, it is now a very mature procedure and is considered a minor operation.”

The man acknowledged what he’d heard and then hurriedly left with the messy documents in hand to complete the hospitalization procedures.

「The admission process was swift.」 Within half an hour, the man’s father was settled into a hospital room, and Director Qian’s medical advice was promptly issued.

The first treatment was intestinal and gastric decompression, which is a routine treatment.

Unfortunately, by evening, the old man’s condition hadn’t improved at all.

Furthermore, due to hernia incarceration, the scrotum had begun to swell significantly, indicating that the testis inside was also swelling. Additionally, the old patient reported pain in the testis.

Director Qian acted decisively, immediately ordering an enema for the patient. Afterward, they continued the previous routine treatment.

「By the next morning,」 the old man’s condition, much to Director Qian’s displeasure, showed no signs of improvement. He had also begun to vomit frequently. Furthermore, his testis had swollen to the point of appearing shiny.

「By that afternoon,」 there was still not the slightest sign of improvement.

After assessing the situation, Director Qian found the man from the day before. ”Your father’s condition hasn’t improved with routine treatment methods; surgical intervention is now necessary. Don’t give him anything to eat or drink tonight. Your father will be the first to undergo surgery tomorrow morning.”

Normally, based on Director Qian’s experience and the man’s reaction the previous day, he should have agreed immediately after Director Qian finished speaking.
