This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

However, this was just the preliminary discussion. Even if Director Wu hadn’t mentioned it, the family likely already had some mental preparation, so Director Wu didn’t dwell on it.

”Then let’s talk about the second issue. Your hospitalization this time is self-funded, right?”

”Our hometown isn’t here, so it must be self-funded.”

Director Wu nodded. ”That’s right. As I just mentioned, your father’s condition is very serious. When we administer medication, we need to use many expensive Medicine Ingredients.”

Moreover, you’re both aware of your father’s illness; there’s no way it can show improvement in the short term.

Therefore, the cost might be quite high. You need to be mentally prepared for that.”

The woman’s expression changed slightly, and she almost imperceptibly took a step back. ”Brother, you talk with Director Wu. The treatment will take a long time; I don’t know if your job can accommodate that.”

No one present was a fool. Was she really concerned about her brother’s job?

Director Wu paused his next words and looked at the two siblings before him.

The man, who had remained silent, didn’t say much, as if he was already accustomed to such things. After slightly switching places with the woman, he asked anxiously, ”Director Wu, roughly how much will this cost? If it’s too much, I’ll need to prepare in advance.”

Director Wu didn’t speak, instead turning his gaze to Du Heng, because he wasn’t clear on the specific medication, dosage, or approximate length of the treatment cycle.

”Around 50,000 yuan,” Du Heng replied softly, noticing Director Wu’s gaze.

”Fifty thousand?” The man’s face immediately showed a mix of distress, embarrassment, and bewilderment.

Muttering softly to himself, the man turned his gaze to his sister, who had just stepped back.

At this, the woman took another step back and turned slightly. ”You’re the son; why are you looking at me?”

Hearing the woman’s words, the man slowly turned his head back and sighed. ”I understand, Director Wu.

Please go ahead with the treatment. I’ll figure out the money myself; I won’t make things difficult for you.”

Director Wu and Du Heng exchanged a brief glance. Seeing Du Heng nod slightly, Director Wu then said to the man, ”Actually, we have a Project here related to tumors.

If you agree to have your father participate in our Project, it will cover a portion of his treatment expenses.”

The man’s eyes suddenly lit up, as if he saw a glimmer of hope.

But before he could speak, his sister, who had just retreated, suddenly rushed forward. She positioned herself in front of the man, blocking him, and asked excitedly, ”Director Wu, how much of the expenses can your Project cover?”

Director Wu looked at the woman with a helpless expression. ”Based on past instances, it can cover about seventy percent of your total expenses.”

”We’ll participate! We’ll participate!” As soon as the woman heard seventy percent, she immediately agreed, completely disregarding whether the man behind her had any objections.

Director Wu ignored the woman and looked at the man, who seemed to want to speak but hesitated. ”As his son, what is your opinion?”

The woman also turned to look at the man and couldn’t resist nudging him. ”What are you still hesitating for? A seventy percent reimbursement is almost 40,000 yuan!”

This time, however, the man wasn’t swayed by the woman. He looked at Director Wu and voiced his concerns, ”Director Wu, when I was working as a migrant worker in the South, some of my fellow workers participated in some kind of drug trials, or when their relatives were hospitalized, they would also join some project.

I know they did this either to earn money or to reduce their medical expenses.

But later, I also heard that many experienced sequelae, and the side effects were too severe.”

The man hesitated slightly. ”I just want to know, this Project you mentioned, is it also for testing new drugs or something similar?”

Hearing the man dither like this, the woman grew anxious. ”Why are you so hesitant? You’ve lived half your life and haven’t changed one bit!

So what if it’s testing new medicine now? So what if there are side effects? As long as it can save Dad’s life, that’s what matters!”

Hearing the woman’s disdainful words, the man stood his ground this time. ”Saving Dad’s life is right, of course. But what if, during this experiment, Dad’s condition worsens? What if he has to endure even more pain, and in the end, he still isn’t saved? What then?

Also, even if Dad is saved, if the side effects are too severe and he has to suffer every day, living a life worse than death, do you think Dad could bear it?”

Seeing the siblings’ argument becoming increasingly unreasonable and heated, with a full-blown fight about to erupt, Director Wu quickly interjected, ”Alright, alright, stop arguing.

What I’m talking about and what you’re talking about are completely different things.”

Director Wu explained helplessly, ”What you’re referring to are medical trial projects for new Western medicines.

We practice traditional Chinese medicine; we don’t have those kinds of projects.”

The man, still unconvinced, asked, ”Then what is your Project for?”

”We are using traditional Chinese medicine methods to find ways to treat tumors with Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Medicine Ingredients used are all medicines that can currently be bought in any hospital or pharmacy.”

”Then what do we need to provide in return?”

Director Wu could only shake his head and offer a wry smile at the man’s caution. ”Nothing at all.”

”This...” The man was still skeptical about such a windfall, finding it hard to believe such good luck would fall on him.

At this point, Du Heng spoke up, ”You genuinely don’t need to provide anything. If you agree to participate in this Project, you’ll just need to cooperate with some check-ups so we can collect data and identify patterns.”

The man hesitated for a moment then finally made up his mind. ”Then we’ll participate.”

The discussion seemed to conclude there. But just as the two siblings were about to leave, the woman suddenly turned back and asked, ”Director Wu, does our Hospital have any single rooms?

My Dad’s health is very poor right now. I’m worried he won’t rest well in a two-person room.”

Director Wu’s eyes flickered for a moment. ”Yes.”

The woman was instantly overjoyed and said quickly, ”Then please arrange a single room for My Dad. That way, it will be more convenient for you to collect that data, right?”

Director Wu suddenly gave a strange smile. ”Of course, we can. But I must tell you upfront: the bed fee for a single room is 500 yuan per day, and the nursing fee is another 500 yuan. That means staying in a single room costs 1,000 yuan a day. Our Project team does not cover this expense.

If you say you’re willing to pay this, I can arrange for your father to change rooms right now.”

Hearing that this expense wasn’t covered, the woman’s excitement immediately vanished.

And when she heard Director Wu say she would have to pay, she shrank back even further. ”Why should I pay? I’m the daughter, and I’m already married out.”

Director Wu couldn’t hold back any longer. ”If you’re not willing to pay, then don’t make so many demands. Let the one who is paying make the decisions, alright?”

Seeing Director Wu’s expression change, the woman finally fell silent.

Du Heng couldn’t help but sigh inwardly at this scene. If he had been the one to say that, he figured the woman would have scratched his face.

After the two of them left, Director Wu said to Du Heng, ”Alright, you can proceed with the treatment according to your methods now.”

Du Heng nodded, left Director Wu’s office, then went to get Cao Binghe and pulled him into his own office.

Back in the office, Du Heng and Cao Binghe reviewed the treatment plan they had just discussed once more. After confirming there were no oversights, Du Heng began to write out the prescription.

From start to finish, it appeared Du Heng was discussing with Cao Binghe, but Cao Binghe knew Du Heng was actually explaining his treatment rationale to him, ensuring he clearly understood the entire treatment process.

As for the reason, besides Lan Changhua’s instructions, he was also Du Heng’s subordinate doctor, there to assist Du Heng.

Cao Binghe looked at the prescription Du Heng had drafted. After reading it carefully several times, he asked softly, ”Director Du, may I ask one more question?”
