This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wu Shengnan was a bit annoyed by Du Heng’s indecisiveness in handling relationships. ”Water flows downwards; people strive upwards. What’s so good about Xiao Kang staying in the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital, apart from a stable salary? Anyway, I don’t see any advantages, but I see a whole heap of disadvantages.”

Wu Shengnan turned around and began to count on her fingers seriously in front of Du Heng. ”First, Xiao Kang is a contract employee, and his career ceiling is obvious. Second, Xiao Kang is an administrative staff member; his monthly salary is three or four thousand yuan at most. Even with bonuses and benefits, would five or six thousand yuan be considered very high? And that’s not even a regular occurrence, is it? Third, Xiao Kang was someone who worked for you. Do you think the leaders who came later, including the current Dean Lu, will give him significant responsibilities?”

Wu Shengnan bent three fingers and then suddenly withdrew her hand. ”Forget it, I won’t count anymore; there are just too many. With just these three points, do you think it’s really a suitable situation for a young man? If you set up a company and consolidate all your miscellaneous affairs, it would be more convenient for you too. Xiao Kang is someone you’ve worked with before, someone familiar and trustworthy. If you offer him a higher salary and slowly groom him to be your trusted representative, wouldn’t that offer him a much brighter future than toiling away at the hospital for a meager salary of several thousand yuan?”

Wu Shengnan looked at Du Heng steadily. ”Or are you saying that, out of consideration for Dean Lu’s ’face,’ you’d pass over Xiao Kang and find someone else? Besides, it’s just Xiao Kang; would Dean Lu really make a fuss over him? The hospital isn’t hers, and there are plenty of people there. Would she really need to pick a fight with you over Xiao Kang?”

Du Heng couldn’t stand Wu Shengnan’s gaze and muttered, ”I was just kidding.”

”Fine, suit yourself. I’m not getting involved anymore.” Wu Shengnan got up and headed towards the bedroom, leaving Du Heng alone to think it over.

When Wu Shengnan left, Du Heng lay sprawled on the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling.

Setting up a small company to consolidate matters outside of my main work, having a dedicated person in charge... that would make things much easier for me, and I could focus more on my profession. That’s a good thing. But is setting up a company always a good idea? Is it suitable for me to set up a company?

Du Heng had never done anything like this before, and he was clueless right now.

After mulling it over, Du Heng picked up his phone and called Liao Quansheng and Lawyer Zhou separately. For professional matters, it’s best to consult professionals.

Once he finished his calls, Du Heng immediately made up his mind. Seeing it was still early, he promptly called Kang Zhirong.

He was already very familiar with Kang Zhirong, so Du Heng didn’t beat around the bush. As soon as the call connected, he laid out his idea.

Du Heng originally thought that after he explained, Kang Zhirong would hesitate, needing to choose between a stable job and a higher salary, and to weigh working at the hospital against working for him.

But to his surprise, as soon as he finished speaking, Kang Zhirong excitedly said from the other end, ”Dean... no, Du, are you serious?”

”Of course, I’m serious! I made up my mind before calling you,” Du Heng said firmly. ”If you’re really willing to work with me, I’ll be straight with you. I’ll start you at a salary of ten thousand yuan, with future raises depending on performance, and I’ll cover your full social insurance and health insurance. As for the job description, it will involve the short video editing, publishing, and management you’re already familiar with. Plus, if you’re interested, I’ll entrust all matters of the new company to you as well.”

”So, will I be working in Jinzhou, or will I go to the Capital with you?”

Du Heng thought for a moment before saying, ”It’s up to you. Jinzhou or the Capital, either is fine; it doesn’t matter. Anyway, the scope of my affairs isn’t that large, so the work is the same wherever you do it. It makes no real difference.”

Kang Zhirong paused for a couple of seconds. ”Du, I’ll work with you, but I’d like to stay in Jinzhou.”

”That decisive?” Du Heng breathed a sigh of relief and asked with a smile.

Kang Zhirong chuckled. ”Du, you know my girlfriend is in Jinzhou, and we’re planning to get married in a couple of years. You also know my situation. If I stayed at the hospital, it would take me at least another ten years to save enough for a down payment on a house. Besides, I might not trust others, but how could I not trust you, Du?”

Du Heng laughed. ”Alright, then it’s settled. I’ll send you Lawyer Zhou’s phone number later. Contact her to get the company set up.”

Kang Zhirong readily agreed. ”Okay, Du! I’ll resign tomorrow and then go find Lawyer Zhou. Oh, right, when you film your videos, it’s best to use a tripod and choose your angles carefully. After filming, just send me the raw footage.”

”Good, that’s my main concern too.”

A matter that had been troubling him was resolved so simply. Du Heng’s bad mood from his earlier video-making troubles instantly lifted, replaced by delight. And he carried this good mood with him into his work.

”Uncle, is your back not hurting anymore?” Just as he started his shift, Du Heng bumped into the elderly patient with the bone tumor, who was slowly strolling in the corridor.

The old man also saw Du Heng and walked over cheerfully. ”Good morning, Doctor Du. I was feeling uncomfortable lying in bed, so I got up to walk around a bit.”

Du Heng laughed and looked the old man up and down. ”Getting up and walking around is good, but you still haven’t told me: is your back not hurting now?”

”It still hurts a little, but it’s bearable. And last night, it didn’t hurt as much as before; I actually got a good night’s sleep.” The old man smiled, the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes deepening. ”Thank you, Doctor Du. If it weren’t for you, this old man honestly felt like jumping into a river.”
