The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 945: Chapter 945: Compassionate Assistance

On the road, encountering someone in need, Song Ci didn’t immediately extend a helping hand but first sent someone to understand the other party’s situation. Upon discovering that things were as Shang Meiniang described, she allowed a carriage to be spared.

Since their current journey included female family members, with herself, the Jiang family, and Song Ruqi accompanied by maidservants, there were six to seven carriages, not counting the guards riding alongside.

Sparing one carriage, letting the servants and maidservants squeeze a bit was manageable.

”Thank you, Madam, for your great kindness. I will certainly repay you,” Shang Meiniang took two steps forward, respectfully and gratefully bowing to Song Ci.

Song Ci smiled and said, ”No need for empty words, I see that Young Master Shang doesn’t look well, you should quickly find a doctor.”

Shang Meiniang repeatedly agreed, and with short steps, walked over to Shang Pu, personally supporting him to the carriage Song Ci had spared. As soon as he placed one foot inside, with the other still on the step, he collapsed, causing cries of alarm.

Song Ci frowned and asked the Jiang guard to send someone to help. She also instructed, ”See if they have a place to stay; if not, escort them to our estate and then find a doctor for them.”

”Yes.”

Upon Song Ci’s orders, someone went to carry them out. The carriages started moving again, and after an hour, the rain had completely stopped, and the sky was as clear as a wash.

Due to the rain, the road became muddy, so Song Ci and her party’s carriage went directly to the main courtyard of the estate before stopping. The steward was already waiting there with people, and when they saw Song Ci get off the carriage, they all knelt down in unison.

After the rain, the air was cooler, so Song Ci wrapped her cloak tighter to ward off the outside cold and called the steward to stand.

”The ground is still wet, no need to kneel, or you’ll have to change clothes again.”

The steward laughed and bowed to express his gratitude.

By that time, Jiang and Song Ruqi had already gotten off the carriage, holding the hand of a maid, and came to Song Ci’s side, each taking her hand.

”Let’s go inside, don’t catch a cold from this dampness.” Song Ci smiled at the two of them, then instructed the steward, ”After that heavy rain, the guards and attendants are all drenched, arrange for some ginger soup hot water for them to drink, and dry their clothes.”

”As you command, Madam.”

Song Ci then went inside and said to the nanny, ”Someone should also take a look at Young Master Shang.”

The nanny nodded in agreement, went to make arrangements, and didn’t mention it again.

Once inside the main courtyard, they were surrounded by servants who helped them wash with hot water and change out of wet shoes. The group sat in the room, dry and comfortable, chatting.

Jiang naturally inquired about the situation of the Shang family couple they met on the road.

”Grandmother, your kindness brings them good fortune to meet someone willing to help,” Song Ruqi said, ”I’ve once visited that trading house and heard that the Young Master was in poor health. I quietly observed earlier, and indeed, he seems a bit frail.”

Jiang, having come from a merchant family, had some knowledge about the Shang family and said, ”The second son of the Shang family has a natural talent for business, his skills are extraordinary. But unfortunately, his health isn’t good. They say it’s a condition from birth, and everyone says he won’t live past twenty-five, but this year, it seems that Young Master Shang has already turned twenty-six.”

”Rumors are just rumors. If the body is well-cared for, living a few more years is possible, let’s not over-speculate.” Song Ci smiled.

Being of older age, Jiang and Song Ruqi assumed Song Ci didn’t enjoy discussing such morbid topics about life and death, so they laughed and changed the subject.
