The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 903: Chapter 903: Entrusting the Eldest Daughter-in-Law

Song Ci brought Nan Shan and Nanny Gong to the main courtyard. Just as they entered, they heard the scolding and complaints coming from Madam Song, causing her to pause.

The passing stewardess and maids saw Song Ci and their spirits seemed to scatter, falling to their knees, while some went inside to report.

Song Ci, holding Nan Shan’s hand, entered the room. Peony, the personal maid of Madam Song, came up to greet them, and there were still some sounds of coaxing coming from the bedroom.

Walking past the screen, Song Ci saw little brother’s wet nurse, Madam Deng, pacing anxiously with the swaddled baby in her arms, while Madam Song was leaning against the bed, looking a bit unwell. Upon seeing Song Ci, she appeared even more flustered and awkward.

”Mother, what brings you here?”

Song Ci glanced at her and said, ”Both children in the third branch have caught smallpox, and I am also uneasy about the main courtyard here, so I came to have a look. What’s wrong with Dan Ge? He’s crying non-stop; could it be he’s hungry or has a soiled diaper?”

While speaking, she walked over to Madam Deng, taking a peek. The little guy was crying at the top of his lungs, his face flushed from crying so intensely.

Madam Deng cautiously glanced at Madam Song and answered, ”Replying to the Tai Madam, Dan Ge just ate not long ago; he hasn’t soiled himself, and the diaper is dry.”

Madam Song also said, ”Mother, this child is just fussy and keeps crying. Deng, take the little one outside to calm him down.”

Song Ci detected a tone of impatience and annoyance in her voice, which stirred her heart. She said to Madam Deng, ”Let me hold him.”

Madam Deng hesitated, then looked again at Madam Song before carefully handing the child to Song Ci, saying, ”If your arms get tired, please let this servant know...”

Without a word from Song Ci, Nanny Gong had already moved a stool for her to sit on, while Nan Shan stood beside Song Ci, his eyes fixed on her and the swaddled baby in her arms.

Song Ci held the child and gently patted him, her voice especially gentle: ”You little rascal, what a big habit you have of crying. So small, yet already troubling the adults. Stop crying quickly, or else Grandmother won’t be fond of our Dan Ge.”

It was quite miraculous; after a few pats from Song Ci and loosening the thin swaddle, the baby gradually stopped crying, only whimpering pitifully, his unfocused eyes gazing at Song Ci, appearing particularly pathetic.

It’s been seven or eight days since this child was born. His face, though still red and yellow, looked much better compared to when he was just born, resembling Song Zhiyuan quite a bit.

Both Madam Song and Madam Deng felt a bit embarrassed. No matter how they tried to comfort him, it didn’t work, yet this family matriarch calmed him immediately upon holding him — wasn’t that too unfavorable to them?

Mama Fang smiled and said, ”As expected, Tai Madam still has the greater presence. As soon as Sixth Young Master is in your arms, he’s as obedient as if he’s been put under a tightly bound spell. You truly can keep him under control.”

”Indeed, Mother, we couldn’t calm him at all,” said Madam Song, looking exhausted.

Song Ci turned to glance at her, hinting, ”Even if the child is small, their senses are keen; you need to be more patient.”

Madam Song awkwardly smiled.

Song Ci continued, ”Hearing you say this, does this child frequently cry? Lin Qing has come to give you acupuncture and check your pulse before, has she looked at the child?”

”She has, and she said the child’s pulse is strong and healthy, but he just loves to cry. Whenever he’s full and clean, he still cries. We really have no solution,” Madam Song bit her lip and said, ”Mother, I have a big request. Could you, with your good fortune, allow Dan Ge to stay with you for a few days?”
