The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 939: Chapter 939: Roasting the Tool Man in Daily Life

The small gathering for Dan Ge’er’s full month celebration was held at Chunhui Hall. Since Old Master Song had returned, the main table was set for Song Ci and the Old Master, accompanied by their sons and a few boys, while Madam Song and the other ladies sat at another table.

Since not many people were invited, there were only a few guests at the banquet. Song Ci, benevolent as he was, graciously allowed Concubine Mei and Concubine Shui to have their own table, with Concubine Shen also seated there.

This was already considered a great honor, so Concubine Mei and the others were very excited. It showed that the Old Madam regarded them as family, allowing them to participate in even such family gatherings.

Just as the atmosphere was filled with joy, Old Master Song glanced over at the concubines’ table and turned to Song Zhiqing, asking, ”Don’t you have another concubine? Why isn’t she here? After all, she gave birth to a pair of twins; she should be allowed to join.”

Song Zhiqing was already feeling uncomfortable. After all, all the concubines in the residence were present except for Bai Shuilian, making the exclusion glaring and uncomfortable for him.

Now, hearing Old Master Song mention it, he instinctively looked at Song Ci.

The crowd fell into silent contemplation.

No one lacked awareness of the situation more than the Old Master.

Song Ci glanced back at Song Zhiqing with a half-smile.

Song Zhiqing felt a chill on his neck and quickly replied, ”Father, Madam Bai is unwell and is still resting in bed, so she couldn’t come.”

Upon hearing this, Old Master Song said, ”Then have someone send a table over to her. It’s a good day; everyone should share in the joy.”

”When resting, one should focus on a light diet. What sort of feast is she supposed to eat?” Song Ci said sideways, ”Cherishing beauties is no longer your concern; drink your tea.”

”Hey, you old woman, what are you talking about? Your words are full of thorns.” Old Master Song glared at her. He knew it; ever since he returned to the manor, his birthdate just didn’t align with this old woman.

Song Ci blinked innocently, ”Naturally, I’m speaking human language. Why, can’t you understand it?”

Old Master Song: ”???”

Everyone else: ”...”

The tea was quite nice, and the appetizers on the table were very exquisite, looking beautifully presented and flavorful.

Song Zhicheng, seeing that his parents seemed ready to clash, hurried to mediate, saying, ”Father, today is Dan Ge’er’s full month banquet. Congratulations on acquiring another golden grandson. Our Song family, with prosperous household and thriving descendants, should drink a big toast. How about we, a few brothers, drink until we’re satisfied today?”

Old Master Song gave a heavy snort, glanced at Song Ci, then looked at his second son, saying, ”I haven’t even mentioned you yet. With one coming and one going, Zhao’er joining the army is such a significant event, why wasn’t I informed?”

Song Ci, feeling displeased, retorted, ”And what would you have done if informed? Could you, an old man, have ridden a horse to bring him back? Moreover, what do you mean by ’one coming and one going’? Don’t you know how to speak properly? He is going to forge his future.”

”Even so, I should have been informed. I am his grandfather, after all.”

”Inform you, and what could you have done? Beating your chest and stamping your feet? A peony wilting would probably be more significant to you than a grandson leaving.” Song Ci, seeing he was still about to argue, waved her hand, ”Alright, enough, don’t say another word. Listening to you talk gives me a headache.”

Old Master Song was so angry that his lips twisted. What did he say? It’s always her talking, isn’t it? Can’t he even grumble a little? This old woman has become like Empress Wu, ruling the roost with one voice!

He looked at Song Zhicheng: Look at your mother, can’t you rein her in?

Song Zhicheng thought to himself, if even you, her old partner, can’t manage her, what could I, as her son, possibly do?

”Father, let’s not talk about that brat, lest we ruin the mood. Someone, bring out the bottle of Qixia Jade Liquid from Zuihua Alley and fill everyone’s glasses, including the Old Madam and Old Master.”
