The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 916: Chapter 916: A Son Like This

Song Lingjie saw that his oldest uncle had spoken, so he spoke without hesitation, though his voice remained cautious.

Remember always that there’s no wall impenetrable by the wind, it’s better than letting secrets leak.

This made Song Zhiyuan even more satisfied; whatever else could be said, this child’s caution was indeed admirable.

”... Over at Fourth Aunt’s camp, many are the sons of noble families from the capital gathering gilded experience. Second Brother does not care for that, whereas the Northeast...” Song Lingjie licked his lips and said, ”If that person were truly at ease, Fourth Uncle wouldn’t need to marry into the family, right? Prince Dingbei is indeed our family relation, but nephew believes that Second Brother going over there instead invites suspicion. After all, Fourth Uncle is the husband, and even though Shenge isn’t named Song, isn’t he still of the Song Family? Does he not carry Song Family blood?”

Song Zhiyu’s son Niu Shen, from birth was destined to be the heir; as long as Prince Dingbei remains peaceful, the future Prince Dingbei would surely be him, Niu Shen. Even though he is not named Song, he carries the Song Family blood.

With one Niu Shen, if there were another Song Lingzhao over there, it wouldn’t trouble the present Emperor, but what about the next?

There might be restless nights.

”This is the first reason.” Song Lingjie watched Song Zhiyuan remain silent and continued, ”Secondly, there are frequent border incidents to the Northwest; as long as there’s a chance to go to the battlefield, there’s an opportunity to earn military merits, and promotions come faster, accumulating more experience.”

”These are secondary,” he looked towards Song Zhiyuan, his gaze lowered, voice barely audible, ”The Northwest is remote and barren; if Second Brother establishes a foundation there, any disturbance in the capital means Second Brother, as one branch, can still be rooted there.”

His words were cryptic, but everyone present was no fool.

Was this not saying that if the Song Family faced any trouble, Song Lingzhao could still remain in the Northwest, keeping the bloodline; with even just one thread, the Song Family would not end?

Song Zhicheng had never considered this aspect; nor had he ever heard Song Lingjie suggest it to them, until now.

His hand holding the cup trembled slightly, and the lid lightly tapped the cup, making a crisp sound.

Did this young one think so far ahead, think so deeply?

Song Zhiyuan’s eyes brightened, his heart surged and became excited, his gaze filled with relief.

”Get up and speak; don’t just kneel there, foolish boy.” Song Zhiyuan fought back his excitement, calling out, and also kicked Song Zhicheng: ”Go help him up.”

Song Zhicheng ah-ed, complicated emotions in his heart as he helped his son up, seeing his pale face, he didn’t let go.

Song Zhiyuan said, ”You plan well, but didn’t consider how worried those at home might be, especially your mother.”

Song Lingjie smiled wryly, saying nothing.

Song Zhiyuan tapped his fingers lightly on the table and said, ”You wish to fulfill your brother’s ambition, but have you considered the cruelty of warfare? Though he practices with weapons daily, on the battlefield, a moment’s mistake could cost a life. Are you not afraid of harming him?”

”Nephew has already explained the pros and cons to Second Brother; this is Second Brother’s choice. Uncle, being twins, I best understand his desire for military service. He would rather die on the battlefield than live an idle life.” Song Lingjie knelt again: ”Uncle, if possible, please let Second Brother be. Whether dragon or worm, sparrow or eagle, it depends on how he fares; and at worst, he won’t lack a meal at home.”

As he spoke, he bowed persistently, knocking his head loudly.

Song Zhicheng didn’t manage to hold him back, his chest felt sore as he looked at his eldest.
