The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 937: Chapter 937: Awkward as Hell

As soon as the baby cried, the whole room became awkward.

Madam Song’s face turned bright red as she started to rock the baby in a somewhat flustered manner. On the side, Deng Shi watched anxiously, wanting to say that the baby had just been fed and shouldn’t be rocked too vigorously, else he might vomit.

But as a nanny, could she dare to overstep against the mother?

Seeing the baby’s cries getting louder, Deng Shi gritted her teeth and said, ”Madam, you can’t rock him. He just had milk, and rocking might make him uncomfortable. Please hold him upright instead...”

Before she finished speaking, the baby let out a cry and then vomited.

Madam Song’s face turned a shade paler.

Deng Shi’s eyes immediately grew red. She watched over the baby day and night, caring even more than for her own son. Her affection was evident, and she couldn’t bear to see the child uncomfortable.

Now that he had vomited, everyone gasped in surprise. Song Ci said, ”Gu Shi, take the child to Deng Shi so she can change him.”

Madam Song quickly handed the baby back.

Deng Shi apologized and then left with the baby in her arms.

Madam Song stood there, feeling both embarrassed and a bit aggrieved. She had given everything she had to bring this child into the world, only for him to make her lose face as a mother.

At this moment, Song Ruqian came over and linked arms with Madam Song, saying, ”Mother, having given birth to us siblings, it’s been over ten years before you had another child. You’ve forgotten how to raise a baby, and you’ll have to relearn.”

Song Ruqi also chimed in, ”Exactly, between Little Six and Brother Su, it’s been fifteen years apart. Mother’s unfamiliarity is natural.”

”You’re absolutely right. When I had Yuanyuan, I was so overwhelmed, I didn’t even realize when the baby needed changing, feeling as if my mind had gone dull.” Jiang Shi also laughed. ”But gradually, I got the hang of it.”

Madam Song awkwardly pulled the corners of her mouth, cautiously glancing at Song Ci.

Song Ci said, ”Taking care of little ones surely requires much thought and effort. You’ll need to grow close and familiar with the child over time.”

Madam Song responded promptly, adding, ”It’s truly thanks to Mother’s nurturing environment at Chunhui Hall—seeing how the boy has grown so beautifully, it’s clear he’s blessed due to Mother’s good fortune.”

Song Ci thought, you might as well say I’m a lucky charm, anyone near me thrives.

Song Zi laughed and chimed in, ”Naturally, Mother’s fortune is significant, otherwise how could she have such a prosperous family and great daughters-in-law like you all?”

Song Ci retorted, ”You must have swallowed a jar of honey before coming here today; your words are awfully sweet.”

Song Zi immediately feigned theatrics, letting out a dramatic ”oh my” as she covered her mouth, ”Oh dear, I’ve already drank several cups of water, yet Mother still caught on. What a truly discerning eye you have.”

Song Ci laughed in mock anger, thinking this social butterfly is indeed remarkable, seeing her ability to banter so skillfully—truly first-rate.

This moment of banter indeed dissipated much of Madam’s embarrassment, allowing her to breathe a little easier.

Meanwhile, Deng Shi returned with the freshly changed baby, and now Madam Song dared not hold him. Song Ruqian was the first to leap forward, taking the child into her arms and examining him closely, immediately growing fond of him.

”Oh, he looks extremely similar to his nephew, Brother Yu. What a surprise,” Song Ruqian exclaimed in amazement, for upon closer inspection, affection grew.

Her own younger brother was smaller than her son and looked so alike—how could one not love him?

Song Ruqi also leaned forward, sighing, ”Sis, quickly go bring Brother Yu over as well; let’s see just how alike they are.”
