The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 943: Chapter 943: Turning the Tables to Advise Mother

Main courtyard.

Song Ruqian accompanied Madam Song and assisted her with washing and applying face cream, while softly criticizing her performance today.

”You have always been astute, why are you making frequent mistakes today? Just by saying those few words, Grandmother might take offense, thinking you harbor ill feelings towards Dange’er. See if you can have a good time in front of her old self afterwards.”

Madam Song’s face turned hot, and she rebuffed, ”Didn’t I just speak my mind? With our own family, do I really need to filter my words several times?”

Song Ruqian shook her head, ”Mother, that’s not how it works. Just because it’s family, can we speak recklessly? Don’t forget, Grandmother is your mother-in-law, and a mother-in-law’s authority is like heaven. If your words are unpleasant, and her temper flares, even if she scolds you, as a daughter-in-law, can you argue back? It would be like having mud in your pants; whether it’s dirt or something else, it looks bad all the same.”

Madam Song felt repulsed and spat, ”You, a noble family matron, speaking so coarsely like the common folk?”

”The words may be unpleasant, but the truth remains. Daughter knows that now you have both sons and daughters, all legitimate, feeling secure in your legacy in the Song Family, so you think you can afford to be casual. That’s not right, Mother. As long as the mother-in-law is around, the daughter-in-law must remain respectful and prudent.”

Madam Song frowned upon hearing this, ”Why, has your mother-in-law been giving you trouble?”

”No, but I’m aware of how tough it is for women, handling mother-in-law relationships isn’t easy. Though Grandmother is lenient now, you shouldn’t treat her with laxity. Maintaining respect and caution is proper; otherwise, if Father finds out, what will he think of you?”

”Ah, I wouldn’t want that reputation. When did I ever lack respect? It’s just that once thoughts come to mind, words spill out.” Madam Song applied fragrance cream to her hands and said, ”I truly believe I’m right. See how spirited Dange’er looks.”

Song Ruqian said, ”That’s due to Grandmother’s fortune, but it’s not to be spoken like that.”

Madam Song felt slightly embarrassed.

”Don’t speak of that anymore. Tomorrow Grandmother goes to Songshan Temple to pray and fulfill her vow, you should proactively bring Dange’er back to the main room,” Song Ruqian suggested.

Madam Song paused, a bit melancholic and regretful, ”Will he cause trouble when he returns here again? Just holding him for a moment today and he cried as if he loathed me.”

”Could it be because you resented the hardship he caused at his birth?” Song Ruqian bluntly stated, ”Mother and child share hearts. Whether you resent him, wouldn’t as a son he sense it? Mother, raising Dange’er at Grandmother’s isn’t bad, it’s good for him of course, but aren’t you afraid he’ll grow distant from you?”

Madam Song furrowed her brow, ”No, it won’t be, will it? I’m his biological mother, and he’s so young.”

”It’s hard to say. Relationships develop through interaction. Whoever raises him naturally earns his closeness. If you’re not afraid of future regret, then do as you wish.”

Madam Song pondered for a moment and said, ”Then I’ll go early tomorrow to bring him back to the main room.”

Only then did Song Ruqian show a smile.

Madam Song noticed and tapped her forehead, teasing, ”Being a mother has made you capable, even instructing me now?”

Song Ruqian stuck out her tongue and leaned her forehead against hers, affectionately saying, ”I’m just worried Mother might act hastily and feel regret later. Now you’re doing well, the household too. I only wish for it to be even better!”

Madam Song curled her lips in approval and patted her hand.

In Serenity Courtyard, Nanny Quan listened to the little maid’s report, with a fleeting gleam in her eyes.
