The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 904: Chapter 904: Just Don’t Regret It

Song Ci dismissed everyone, then sat by the bedside, watching Madam without blinking.

”Tell me honestly, do you truly want to send Dan Ge’er over to my place to be raised out of a mother’s love, hoping he can benefit from what you call luck, or are you just annoyed with the child? Disliking his incessant crying?”

Madam’s heart trembled, her eyes dodged a bit, wanting to argue, but under Song Ci’s gaze, she felt exposed.

”Mother, I, I...”

In her anxiousness, she couldn’t finish her sentence, and tears filled her eyes first.

Song Ci frowned, saying: ”No need to rush, speak slowly.”

Madam took a deep breath and said: ”Mother, I’m really a bit irritable. Ever since giving birth, I haven’t had a sound sleep, and sometimes I even have nightmares. When Dan Ge cries, I get even more annoyed, and sometimes I even think, had I known it would be like this, it would have been better if both he and I were gone at the time. It would have saved me from this annoyance.”

Song Ci was somewhat alarmed. Even if she weren’t a doctor, she could diagnose that Madam might be suffering from postpartum depression.

It’s quite enough; she’s a Prime Minister’s wife, just gave birth, and there are people around to take care of things. How could she have this ailment?

”Dan Ge doesn’t even reside in your room. If he cries, isn’t that enough in the West Wing?” Song Ci asked, ”And those nightmares, what do you dream about?”

Madam chuckled bitterly: ”Sometimes I can’t sleep, always feeling like he’s crying. As for the nightmares, I often dream of the day of his birth, he...”

Her words halted, a flash of fear in her eyes, ”I dream that he didn’t survive, that he blames me, so he cries by my side all the time.”

”Nonsense!”

Song Ci sternly scolded, ”You’re foolish. Gu Shi, you put so much effort into this child, nearly costing your life. It’s a child you gained through such difficulty, yet you constantly think poorly of him.”

Madam’s face turned crimson from the scolding.

”Such a great hurdle you’ve crossed, you should not dwell on that day, lest the thorn in your heart makes you dislike the child.”

”Mother, I know I shouldn’t feel this way, it’s tough for both me and him, but it’s like I’m cursed, my thoughts often deviate, and when I see him not being soothed, I...” Madam felt extremely ashamed, tears welling up in her eyes.

Song Ci sighed and said: ”Don’t underestimate the child, he too is a living person with senses. The so-called mother-child bond means that you and he are the closest people in this world, your emotions would naturally affect him; it’s no wonder he cries.”

Madam was stunned for a moment, somewhat at a loss.

Song Ci, looking at her haggard and pale face, said: ”You’re still in confinement. If you don’t recuperate well now, you’ll suffer later. There’s no harm in letting Dan Ge stay with me until your confinement is over. Your health is most important.”

Madam breathed a sigh of relief, just about to express her gratitude, when she heard Song Ci speak again.

”But, don’t regret it later.” Song Ci looked at her, ”A newborn needs a mother’s love and familiar scent the most. It’s also the best time to bond. If the closeness isn’t there in the future, don’t regret it.”

Madam was a bit taken aback, was there such a saying? But she only felt that Song Ci was exaggerating. How could a newborn understand anything about emotional ties?

Seeing her indifferent attitude, Song Ci couldn’t help but sigh.
