The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 932: Chapter 932: What Did I, a Lotus, Do Wrong?

As Song Zhiqing stepped out of Chunhui Hall, he watched Mrs. Lu break into a smile.

”You handled things well just now. You’ll need to be more mindful in the future as you care for Yi’er.”

Mrs. Lu laughed in exasperation, gazing at him, ”You really forget things, don’t you? Little Five has his biological mother, how could it be outsiders like me who need to worry? Remember, it was you who suggested moving him back to Serene Garden to be raised there.”

Song Zhiqing stiffened, awkwardly saying, ”You are the legal wife, and it’s only natural for you to oversee the upbringing of the children.”

”Oh, now you remember I am the legal wife?” Mrs. Lu lowered her head with a slight smile and said, ”Better not, lest I try to be the good person for nothing. As for Little Five’s side, there’s a biological mother in place, and people to look after him, so I won’t interfere. Rest assured, I won’t skimp on their expenses.”

Having said this, she gracefully bowed and walked away without sparing a glance at his paled expression.

After taking a few steps, she halted again and said to Song Zhiqing, ”By the way, since the Old Madam has said those words, please ensure Bai Aunt doesn’t act impetuously with the Old Madam. Any mishap will be a burden neither you nor I can bear.”

With those words, she walked away without turning back.

Rage caused Song Zhiqing’s chest to ache; remarkable indeed, this woman simply disregards his authority.

He snorted heavily and remembered Song Ci’s words, his brows knitted as he changed course towards Serene Garden.

He entered to find Bai Shuilian clutching their son, tears streaming. Her hand rested on the peace charm that Song Ci attached. When she saw him arrive, she forced a smile.

”Master has arrived.”

Seeing her weary expression, Song Zhiqing said, ”Your injuries are not completely healed. Don’t hold the child to avoid pressing against your wound.”

”It doesn’t matter. I just want to hold him. Unexpectedly, the Old Madam is so generous towards Yi’er, gifting such a peace charm, but...” Bai Shuilian said, tears spilling as she continued, ”But I wish she hadn’t gifted it, as it symbolizes Yi’er’s well-being.”

Song Zhiqing felt a twinge of discomfort inside, instructed Jing Shui to take the child away, sat beside her, patted her shoulder, and said, ”He’ll get better, maybe just hasn’t rebounded yet, hence the sluggish reactions.”

Bai Shuilian wore a bleak expression, ”These words, you don’t truly believe, do you, Lang? Never mind the ruined face, the lack of prospects ahead, he even burned his brain...”

”Enough.” Song Zhiqing disliked hearing such talk, ”As long as I’m here, no one will mistreat him in this life.”

Bai Shuilian’s heart sank further, saying, ”He’s born of a concubine, his status inherently lacking. I’m incapable of providing him protection. With you here, there’s naturally safeguarding, but if you ever falter too, Yi’er would truly have nothing to lean on. Yet, you’re merely a Fifth Rank official.”

”Why bring this up now? I’ve just been reassigned here. There’ll be opportunities to advance.”

Bai Shuilian bitterly replied, ”Without anyone suppressing, Lang’s capabilities surely present ample opportunities, but if...”

Song Zhiqing’s face darkened.

”Enough on this topic.” Song Zhiqing looked down at her and said, ”Yi’er’s illness hasn’t recuperated, which has angered the Old Madam, indirectly affecting you. Avoid wandering when you have no task, especially keeping your distance from her to prevent her scolding you.”

Bai Shuilian’s body stiffened, her lips trembling as she said, ”What have I done wrong? Why does the Old Madam have such disdain for me? I’m currently transcribing the scriptures she asked me to, staying put as she directed, what more can I do? Must I move to a nunnery to make her comfortable?”
