The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 913: Chapter 913: The Ancestor’s Twisted Reasoning

The so-called ”fearless like a dead pig in hot water”, after Song Lingjie surrendered his weapons, he felt a sense of relief. What happens next is left to fate; he’s done all he can.

Watching the door close, Song Lingjie opened his eyes and sighed, ”Song Lingzhao, Song Lingzhao, whether you achieve your desires depends on whether there’s a place for you in this world.”

There was no need to hide secrets anymore; with body and mind relaxed, he suddenly felt the burns on his back and buttocks painfully.

Hiss, his father hit hard indeed.

At that time, just having jumped off his horse to rest, drink water, and replenish his dry rations, Song Lingzhao sneezed twice, biting into a large pancake, as he gazed toward the direction of the capital and lowered his eyes.

After eating the dry rations in a few bites and stretching his limbs, Song Lingzhao said to the guards from Prince Xin Mansion following him, ”Let’s go.”

The guards: ”...”

Is this young master of the Song Family made of iron? He’s been running for days almost as fast as a forced march, and hasn’t gotten any chafed thighs?

What they didn’t know was that Song Lingzhao simply wanted to enlist quickly; otherwise, he’d feel this journey was in vain, and that was something he couldn’t accept.

...

Song Zhicheng and his wife followed Song Ci back to Chunhui Hall, each holding a cup of tea as they sat.

Song Ci pursed her lips towards the Nanny, who then went to guard the door.

”At this point, don’t blame the children anymore. Blaming won’t help,” she said.

Song Zhicheng couldn’t help but say, ”I understand, Mother, but you’re saying we’ve been negligent as parents.”

”Am I wrong?” Song Ci glared at him and said, ”The two of you, one in charge of the outer courtyard, the other the inner, no matter how busy, it’s impossible not to notice a child missing for days; isn’t that neglect?”

Song Zhicheng opened his mouth to argue but was nudged by Jiang Shi’s arm.

Fine, he thought, I won’t provoke the protective old ancestor.

Seeing Jiang Shi’s little gesture, Song Ci continued, ”Let’s not dwell on it; the person is gone, and it no longer matters whose fault it is.”

Song Zhicheng licked his lips and said softly, ”Mother, you know our family’s situation, Zhao’er going to enlist, in the future...”

”As I’ve said, with the Empress Dowager and I still here, it hasn’t come to that,” Song Ci replied. ”Just consider this my crooked logic. Second Son, for a family to prosper, it can’t have only one path in one direction. Studying is the Song Family’s main focus, but if someone genuinely doesn’t have the aptitude and finds success elsewhere, should they be confined to one path?”

”But that’s too...”

Song Ci raised a hand, sliding the prayer beads. Now she was prone to moving the beads frequently.

”I understand your thought; big trees attract the wind, and right now Song Family needs to root itself and seek stability. But sometimes seeking stability and preservation might not be beneficial; it might stagnate the family’s progress. Your generation and the elder sibling’s path have already been set; the next generation is still unknown. Second Son, the Emperor has not yet made a decision, and the children are only in their teens. In reality, the Song family’s future lies with the next generation and the next reincarnation,” she pointed upward.

Emperors are often short-lived; Emperor Chu looks healthy now, but who knows when the sky might fall. If the sky falls, with one Emperor and new Courtiers, it’s uncertain whether Song Zhiyuan will remain as impressive as now.

The next generation, however, if they choose the right side, wealth and prosperity might follow the next generation, but this premise requires the family’s children to have accomplishments.

Song Zhicheng’s pupils slightly contracted.
