The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 926: Chapter 926: You’re Getting On in Years...

Song Ci watched as Song Zhicheng left and said to Nanny Gong, ”These two in the second branch really are kindred spirits, both so open-minded.”

Nanny Gong pushed a celadon official kiln dish in front of her, smiling as she said, ”You’re actually quite pleased too, aren’t you?”

Open-mindedness is good; it brings comfort and ease. If you fuss over every little thing, how can there be peace in this family?

Like now, Song Zhiyuan is fighting in the officialdom, while Song Zhicheng manages the Song Family’s external affairs. The brothers work together like a tightly woven rope, putting their strength in one direction. How can the family not prosper this way?

Song Ci said, ”It is indeed comforting, just a pity about the third brother...”

She pursed her lips. Could it be that this lineage truly forms an invisible barrier, always leaving something amiss no matter how close they are?

The second generation of the Song family has four sons, with three legitimate. Even though Song Zhiyu might be a dissolute idler without achievements, he’s not foolish. Only the concubine’s son, Song Zhiqing, seems a bit simple-minded.

Nanny Gong said, ”There is a difference between legitimate and concubine-born children. Even if the legitimate ones are treated as blood siblings, the concubine-born ones always feel a sense of inferiority regarding their birth, and their minds become complicated. You can’t ask too much; finding a harmonious scene like the Song brothers living together is rare in the capital. To demand more is to overdo one’s luck.”

”I’m not asking for much, just feeling a bit emotional.” Song Ci tapped the dish with her fingers, glancing at Nanny Gong. ”But this, how do you explain it? The Empress Dowager rewarded a small basket, and the Emperor also gave a small basket to the eldest, and he brought it back. Even distributed elsewhere, it shouldn’t leave so few for me, right?”

Look at this palm-sized dish, exquisite as it is, only holding three white jade lychees.

Nanny Gong, this is too much!

”One lychee equals three fires, and at your age, you should refrain from such things.”

”I...”

Song Ci glared. We remain good master and servant if my age goes unmentioned.

Nanny Gong pushed the dish closer, smiling slightly, ”Hope to live another ten or eight years, as you’ve said.”

Song Ci: ”...”

Can’t she admit her mistake?

The heavenly family bestowed favor by sharing lychees. Song Ci distributed them to each branch and didn’t forget to send some to the office of the advisors, spreading grace.

Song Lingjie felt a bit internally wounded. He had no share of the lychees due to their heat nature, and he was injured, so he shouldn’t risk aggravating it, hindering his recovery.

He knew it was just an excuse. His parents were punishing him.

But what was with this kid?

”Alright, you’re almost nine years old, yet here you are crying?” Song Lingjie glared at Wan Yicheng in annoyance, ”Little Marquis, are you here to visit me or to add to my worries?”

Wan Yicheng choked up, tears brimming, ”I’m not sad; Song Er-ge’s departure means who knows when he’ll return. You all call me brother casually, but when it comes to such major things, you kept it from me, so much so that I didn’t even see him for the last time.”

Song Lingjie’s mouth twitched, ”What do you mean last time? You’re openly cursing him.”

Wan Yicheng realized his slip, saying, ”Anyway, it’s not valuing brotherhood.”

”Alright, alright, the next time I get a chance, I’ll write to tell him you’re so mad you’re breaking ties.”

Wan Yicheng quickly said, ”There’s no need for that. Although he acts wrongly, I can’t be petty. I’ll magnanimously forgive him this once.”

Cutting ties means in the future, could he freely come and go at the Prime Minister’s Mansion, and see little Yuanyuan?
