The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 899: Chapter 899: Stirring the Grass and Startling the Snake

Bai Shuilian opened her eyes and slightly moved her body, which made her eyebrows knit together in pain, her face wrinkled like a bitter gourd.

She couldn’t help but reach for her abdomen, her fingers trembling; the sensation of the cold weapon entering her body felt like it had only happened recently, making her shiver all over.

The feeling of being so close to death truly made her somewhat frightened and terrified.

”Awake?”

Bai Shuilian turned her head to look, and there stood Mama Quan by her side, helping her sit up against the headboard, casually placing a cushion behind her waist.

This movement pulled on her wound, making Bai Shuilian tremble all over from pain, her face turning ashen.

Mama Quan adjusted her to sit properly and brought water to help her drink.

Bai Shuilian caught her breath, steadied her mind, and asked, ”How long have I been unconscious?”

”Since the incident until now, it’s been two days. You woke up shallowly in between and forgot?”

Bai Shuilian was taken aback and shook her head, ”I don’t remember.”

This was indeed a huge shock to her mind, compounded by the physical injury, nearly affecting her internal organs. Her body was already fragile, how could it bear such a blow?

Mama Quan didn’t blame her, just brought some warm congee to feed her, ”Eat something first, then take your medicine.”

Bai Shuilian asked, ”Where is Master? And Shuanglu...”

”Third Master did stay with you for a while, but just left not long ago. As for Shuanglu, she ruthlessly plotted against the two young masters, and after the incident, tried to assassinate you; how could Third Master let her go? He had her body dragged to the mass grave to feed the dogs,” said Mama Quan lightly.

Listening to her nonchalant tone, and hearing Shuanglu’s fate, Bai Shuilian couldn’t help but feel a chill in her heart, saying, ”She served me for a while after all, can’t Mama have someone collect her body?”

Mama Quan sneered, ”Just a maid, not worth risking ourselves to collect her body. Do you think there are few eyes watching us in this mansion?”

Bai Shuilian’s eyebrows twitched, ”Does Mama mean our suspicions aren’t cleared? Then what about Master?”

”If it were that easy to clear suspicions, I’d have overestimated the Song Mansion. As for Third Master, he completely believes it was Shuanglu’s doing.”

Bai Shuilian noticed Mama Quan’s expression wasn’t good and asked, ”Why, isn’t this going as Mama planned?”

Mama Quan glanced at her and said, ”There’s a new maid personally attending to the Grand Madam.”

This...

Bai Shuilian’s pupils contracted, naturally understanding what this meant—Song Ci’s defense and security had tightened.

Stirring the grass, startling the snake—no wonder Mama Quan’s expression was unpleasant, even somewhat annoyed and exasperated.

Bai Shuilian lowered her gaze, suppressing the inexplicable pleasure rising in her heart, and said, ”I told you this plan wasn’t feasible. Now it’s a loss rather than a gain. If we want to make a move in the future, it will only be more difficult.”

”So, take this opportunity to rest and heal, Auntie. Now that you’re injured, there’s no need to look after Young Master; Jing Shui can handle it, and we needn’t worry about spreading the illness.”

Bai Shuilian pursed her lips, and Song Ci’s words came to mind—”Do you call this being a mother?”

Mama Quan continued, ”But Auntie, don’t gloat. We’re all in the same boat; if the mansion is doing well, we aren’t; if you want things to go your way, it will be even harder. Or are you content being an aunt and consider yourself truly part of the Song Family?”

This undisguised mockery left Bai Shuilian stiff; she looked up at Mama Quan.

The latter remained indifferent.

Bai Shuilian lowered her head, saying, ”What is Mama saying? I always remember my place.”
