The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 854: Chapter 854: You’re Not That Important

The heavy rain poured down without anyone noticing, making the trees sway wildly in the storm. Everyone in the Song Mansion could only shrink under the corridors or stay inside, not daring to move outside. Firstly, because the wind and rain were intense, and secondly, Madam at the Prime Minister’s Mansion was in labor at the main courtyard, and good news had yet to come.

It’s said that Madam is having a difficult birth, and no one knows if there will be a turn for the better. If joy turns to sorrow, the atmosphere in the mansion might remain gloomy for a while.

All households and courtyards were quietly awaiting news.

In the courtyard of Song Lingzhao, the two brothers were also waiting in silence.

”You’ve longed to leave, so why is it that when the time comes, your joy is no more?” Song Lingjie asked, looking at his elder brother.

Song Lingzhao propped his chin, glanced at him, and then looked out at the downpour. ”Aunt is giving birth, they say it’s very dangerous, and my heart is uneasy. Compared to her safe delivery, what do my matters count for? At worst, I’ll go next year, or wait to take the martial exam instead.”

Song Lingjie was somewhat surprised, thinking this guy could disregard everything to enlist, yet unexpectedly he was willing to delay for the birth of his aunt’s child.

”So if there’s no good news from Aunt’s side, you won’t leave?”

Song Lingzhao nodded. ”If that’s really the case, the house will surely be overshadowed with gloom. If I leave again, it’s like adding insult to injury.”

”Oh, you’re overthinking. You’re probably not that important,” Song Lingjie retorted.

Song Lingzhao felt a metaphorical arrow in his chest and pleaded, ”Have some decency, won’t you?”

Song Lingjie looked out the window and said, ”With Grandmother here, Aunt will be fine. She is the good fortune of our mansion.”

Song Lingzhao fully agreed.

In the Leisure Courtyard.

Song Zhiqing walked in from the rain and saw Bai Shuilian sitting by the Arhat bed by the window, shedding tears, which left him somewhat depressed.

Bai Shuilian saw him come in, wiped her tears, and walked over. ”Third Brother, you’ve finally come.”

”Shuanglu said you must see me. I’ve just returned to the mansion and was thinking of going to the main courtyard. What’s going on with you?”

Bai Shuilian sniffled, ”I know Madam is in labor, and I shouldn’t be acting irrationally, but Third Brother, the rain outside is heavy and thundering. I’m worried about the children.”

Song Zhiqing was taken aback and comforted her, ”It’s alright. Even though Sister Lu is not here, I’ve heard that Sister Shen is watching over them.”

Bai Shuilian’s molars almost ground to pieces with resentment, and her eyes quickly filled with tears as she pleaded, ”They’ve always been afraid of thunder. Without me by their side, they will surely cry non-stop. Third Brother, could you take me to see them?”

Song Zhiqing felt a bit troubled and stammered, ”With Sister-in-law having a difficult birth, Grand Madam has given orders not to wander from room to room or have the servants do so. Even Shuanglu broke the rules. Going to the Plum Garden now might displease her further.”

A trace of bitterness and disappointment appeared on Bai Shuilian’s face.

”Don’t be like this. You can’t go, but they surely can’t stop me. I’ll personally go see how they’re doing, alright?”

Bai Shuilian immediately brightened and handed him two handmade cloth dolls. ”Then bring these to them for me; I made them myself.”

”Alright.”

”Third Brother, I haven’t held them for a long time. When you see the two children, hug them for me, especially Yi’er.” Bai Shuilian forced a smile and added, ”Also, don’t just look at the two children. Madam is busy, but you should also comfort the Fourth Young Master. After all, he is the legitimate eldest son of our house. He would be very happy to receive your favor, even if it’s just a hug or a pat on the head.”

Song Zhiqing felt comforted, ”I know you’re the most considerate.”

”Let me help you change your clothes before you go. The hems are all wet.” Bai Shuilian shyly tugged at his waistband.
