The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 861: Chapter 861: A Mother’s Stern Advice

The Madam of the Song Family was extremely frail after childbirth, lacking even a trace of strength. When speaking with Song Zhiyuan, she had to force herself to hold up.

Song Zhiyuan said, ”Your body is still weak, don’t worry about anything for now. Just focus on recovering your health first. Whatever needs doing can wait until you’re well again.”

The Madam nodded, saying, ”These days, I fear it will be hard for the Prime Minister to stay in the study.”

Song Zhiyuan replied, ”It won’t be for long. Because of Prime Minister Fan’s wife occasionally falling into slumber, and Prime Minister Fan unable to accompany the court, I took leave from the Emperor and hurried back. This time, I’ve wronged you by not being able to stay by your side.”

Though the Madam felt somewhat disappointed inside, she understood the importance of matters, stating, ”I am fine here, with servants attending to me. You should hurry back to serve the Emperor.”

”No rush over one or half a day, rest well.” Song Zhiyuan personally helped her lie down and pulled the quilt over her.

The Madam was truly exhausted and fell asleep not long after touching the bed.

After sitting for a while, Song Zhiyuan then told Mama Fang, ”On the Madam’s side, I must trouble you to watch over her. As for little six, let the wet nurse and maid take care of him. Don’t let the Madam overexert herself, nor let the child disturb her.”

”Prime Minister, rest assured.”

Song Zhiyuan took a glance at the Madam and then left the main courtyard, heading to Chunhui Hall.

...

At Chunhui Hall, Song Ci had been preoccupied all day. Given her age, she was already quite weary. She had finished washing up and lit the Calming Incense, allowing the little maid to massage her legs, all in a drowsy state.

Upon hearing that Song Zhiyuan had arrived, Song Ci was too tired to meet him but still mustered the energy to let him in.

Unexpectedly, Song Zhiyuan entered and performed a great bow to Song Ci.

Song Ci was momentarily puzzled.

”What are you doing? Quickly, help the Prime Minister stand up.”

A maid stepped forward to slightly assist Song Zhiyuan, who then stood up smoothly, his gaze towards Song Ci filled with affection and trust, along with a hint of gratitude.

Song Ci: ”...”

That look was a bit overwhelming.

”I heard you hurried back on horseback. With such a rushed journey, and worrying about your wife, you must be exhausted. You don’t need to come here to pay respects; staying with your wife is what’s important. She suffered a great ordeal today.”

Song Zhiyuan said, ”Upon returning to the mansion, I first went to see Mrs. Gu. She is now asleep. I was anxious about you, and I had to come to greet you. Mrs. Gu had a difficult birth, and thanks to you as the steadfast pillar in the house, along with your fortune, mother and child are safe. Mother, I am deeply grateful.”

Song Ci chuckled lightly, ”Don’t be so formal with your mother. In a family, why speak as if it’s between strangers? Mrs. Gu is your wife and also the matriarch of the Song Family, continuing our lineage. Helping her is what should be done.”

”Mrs. Gu’s safe childbirth is due to everyone’s combined efforts, and more so her own strong will. Under what pressure Mrs. Gu, at her age, risks half her life to bear you an heir, even with her personal motives, she was courageous enough to strive. This birth was perilous, you might not have seen it, but you should know.” Song Ci looked at Song Zhiyuan, hinting, ”Now, you have both a son and daughter, a blessing, along with a top-ranked official position. Mrs. Gu has made great contributions. Without her managing the household and affairs behind the scenes, how would you have such smooth success? We must not forget our roots and ingratitude. You, thereafter, must not fail her.”

So this is about giving the son a reminder for his wife’s sake!
