The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 860: Chapter 860: Suffering

Song Zhiyuan gently wiped the corner of Madam’s eyes with a handkerchief and said warmly, ”It’s all right now, I’m back, Xiangyi, you’ve worked hard.”

Heavens, these were the most heartfelt words Madam had ever heard.

”I...” As soon as she spoke, she felt her throat dry, hoarse, and astringent.

She wanted to tell him that she had a nightmare, in which the child was gone, and the couple became strangers, turning against each other, and later, there was no later, all because of the child.

The child, yes, her child.

Madam’s consciousness returned, and she instinctively touched her abdomen. With this movement, her whole body felt like it had been beaten, everything was painful, and she couldn’t muster any strength.

”Don’t move.” Song Zhiyuan held her down, went to pour a cup of water from the teapot, checked if it was warm, then helped her sit up, fed her to drink, and placed a soft cushion at her back for support.

Madam was weak but anxious and asked, ”Where is the child?”

She remembered having a difficult labor, risking her life to give birth to the child but didn’t have a chance to see if the child was well or not.

Song Zhiyuan held her hand and said, ”Don’t worry.”

He called Mama Fang, who, seeing Madam awake as she rounded the screen, felt a joy in her heart, knowing the two wanted to see the child, hurried to bring the wet nurse and the child over from the side room.

The wet nurse had been prepared a month ago, surnamed Deng, about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, had just given birth four months ago, had a gentle appearance, spoke softly, and was known for her cleanliness.

Most importantly, she was healthy, with ample milk, and at a suitable age.

Madam Deng personally held the child, knelt to give greetings to Song Zhiyuan and Madam, who eagerly looked at the swaddled bundle in her arms.

Mama Fang took the swaddling clothes, held them in front of Song Zhiyuan, and said, ”The Sixth Young Master sends his regards to the master and madam.”

Song Zhiyuan leaned over to look, couldn’t resist reaching out to take the child, examining him carefully. Though the situation had improved considerably, the child’s complexion was still not good, somewhat flushed.

But seeing his full forehead, slender eyes, and high nose bridge, one could imagine he would grow into a handsome child.

”You really put your mother through a lot,” Song Zhiyuan lightly scoffed, extending a finger to poke the child’s cheek.

Perhaps displeased, the child’s mouth pouted in protest, nearly crying.

Yet Song Zhiyuan felt a bit of satisfaction, ”Quite sensitive, aren’t you?” He looked at Madam, holding the child out to her, ”Take a look as well, he’s your little one, born through your hardship.”

Madam had been watching his expression. Seeing no displeasure, her heart eased slightly, and she looked down at the child, her eyes welling with emotion.

This child had almost cost her her life.

Now seeing him, Madam’s heart was filled with indescribable complexity. Though she couldn’t say she resented him, recalling the pain and fear of childbirth, she also couldn’t say she was entirely happy.

Mama Fang, noticing this, began to recount how the child’s umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck during birth, leading to the difficult labor, which caused his face to turn blue and purple. If it hadn’t been for the intervention of the doctor, perhaps...

Madam was startled, not expecting such an encounter, and exclaimed, ”The cord was around his neck?”

So, it really wasn’t an illusion; it really was a long time before she heard him cry?

The child almost didn’t make it?

Madam instinctively recalled that dream and shivered.

The child’s eyes were half-closed, but now he opened them, looking at Madam, his little mouth moving slightly.

After all, there is an innate bond between mother and child. Madam’s heart softened, and she raised her hand to gently touch his face, saying, ”You also suffered.”
