The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 873: Chapter 873: Frightened

After staying up all night, Madam Lu looked utterly exhausted, her eyes full of distress and worry. Upon hearing that Song Ci had arrived, she hurried to welcome her.

”Mother, why did you trouble yourself to come here? Don’t let yourself catch the illness.”

Song Ci said, ”The fever started yesterday. Why didn’t anyone come to report it? How is Zhou’er now?”

”He just drank a bowl of medicine, but the fever hasn’t subsided. He even had some convulsions in the middle of the night.” Madam Lu was completely exhausted.

Song Ci walked to the bedside and leaned in to see Song Lingzhou lying on the bed, his face unusually flushed, with a frown on his forehead. His face visibly thinner, causing her to furrow her brows.

She removed the handkerchief from Song Lingzhou’s forehead and touched it to feel the temperature, estimating it to be around thirty-eight degrees based on her experience.

”Did you use any strong liquor to rub his body?”

Madam Lu was stunned and shook her head.

Seeing this, Song Ci said, ”Someone should have come to my courtyard to report yesterday. I know a few remedies to reduce fever.” She looked at Mrs. Zhou Chen, ”Are you the daughter-in-law of Nanny Zhou, taking care of Zhou’er?”

”Yes, Madam,” the maid replied.

”Fetch some strong liquor to wipe his underarms and limbs and see if it can bring down the fever.” Song Ci then looked at the thick quilt covering Song Lingzhou and said, ”A quilt so thick in this heat? Do you want him to get heat rash? Remove it and replace it with a thinner one. Also, open the windows to let the air in. The room is so stuffy that even the virus can’t dissipate. Don’t pull the curtains, let some sunlight into the room.”

Everyone immediately sprang into action.

Song Ci asked again, ”Did Nanny Zhou say that the fifth young master is also ill?”

Madam Lu’s body stiffened, and she nodded, ”Yesterday I was running back and forth. The fifth young master is being watched over by the nanny and Jing Shui.”

Her words were cautious, afraid that Song Ci might reprimand her.

Song Ci understood that with two sick children, a mother would naturally prioritize her own child, so Madam Lu’s bias was understandable, and she did not criticize her, only saying, ”With the fifth young master, since you can’t personally attend to him, assign more people. If you’re short-staffed, have your sister-in-law arrange for more.”

Madam Lu felt relieved.

”I’ve already sent for the Imperial Physician. You go freshen up and eat something to strengthen yourself. Don’t fall ill along with the children. I’ll watch over him here for you.”

Madam Lu gratefully withdrew for the time being.

Song Ci wanted to step forward, but Nanny Gong stopped her and said, ”You must also take care of yourself. Don’t get too close to avoid catching the illness. Let me handle it.”

At this moment, Mrs. Zhou Chen brought over the strong liquor and a new cotton handkerchief.

Song Ci personally demonstrated, instructing Mrs. Zhou Chen to undress Song Lingzhou and wipe him down.

Mrs. Zhou Chen carefully moved Song Lingzhou’s body, and as she did, Nanny Gong, with sharp eyes, saw faint red marks on the young master’s neck. She was startled and quickly approached, pulling open the quilt.

Now, she saw several red marks on the boy’s feet as well, and her heart began to race.

Nanny Gong grabbed Mrs. Zhou Chen’s hand and asked sternly, ”Have you been attending to the fourth young master since his birth?”

Mrs. Zhou Chen, not understanding, nodded.

”Then tell me, has the fourth young master had a rash before?”

Mrs. Zhou Chen felt a buzz in her head and her scalp tingled. She shook her head.

Nanny Gong’s face turned white, and she looked at Song Ci with alarm.

Song Ci asked, ”What’s the matter?”

Nanny Gong was about to speak when suddenly sounds of scolding came from outside.
