The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 859: Chapter 859: The Prime Minister Returns

The Prime Minister has returned.

This round of shouting and commotion spread from the outer door all the way to the inner door, past the second door, and then into the main courtyard.

Song Zhiyuan received a wave of congratulations, but he also roughly understood just how dangerous the childbirth for Lady Gu was.

”Elder Brother.”

At the entrance of the main courtyard, Song Zhicheng was standing there, holding a lantern.

Song Zhiyuan felt slightly relieved and said, ”Thank you for your hard work today.”

”It was nothing, everything is fine. Sister-in-law suffered a lot though, you should go see her quickly.” Song Zhicheng approached with a smile and said, ”Congratulations, Elder Brother.”

Song Zhiyuan patted his shoulder, looked towards the brightly lit courtyard, took a deep breath, and went inside.

Peony, the head maid, was standing under the porch. Upon seeing Song Zhiyuan, she quickly approached, performed a curtsey, and greeted him: ”Congratulations to the Prime Minister, the Lady has given birth to a son.”

”How is Madam now?”

Peony stood up and respectfully replied, ”Madam has not yet awakened.”

Song Zhiyuan’s heart tightened. He walked into the house, directly crossing the east wing to enter the inner room.

The windows in the room were not open, nor were there any ice pots. Only two little maidservants stood far from the bed, gently fanning the air to keep it circulating, allowing a bit of coolness, yet it remained stuffy.

Madam Fang stood up, curtseyed to Song Zhiyuan, and excitedly called him Prime Minister.

Song Zhiyuan waved his hand, approached the bed, and leaned over to look, his eyes reflecting a hint of pain.

He sat down by the bed, took her hand, and held it, feeling the warmth in it, his heart slightly settled.

Madam Fang watched from the side, seeing him reach out to tidy Madam’s hair with visible care and pain in his eyes, causing her own eyes to moisten.

Her mistress was strong throughout her life, coming from a poor family she never lacked the unwillingness, but reality proved, Madam married the right man.

Once her health is regained, Madam truly is perfect with an Imperial Decree, twin children, a loving marriage, and a harmonious household that would surely be the envy of all.

”Madam hasn’t awakened yet? Tell me in detail about the childbirth,” Song Zhiyuan asked Madam Fang as he held his wife’s hand.

Madam Fang was prepared and needed no embellishments, recounting everything from the dangers of last night to the present. In the emotional parts, her voice trembled and choked.

”Madam truly suffered greatly with this birth, but fortunately, mother and child are safe.”

Song Zhiyuan’s heart ached, his fingers lightly brushed over his wife’s pale and haggard face, suddenly noticing a strand of white hair at her temple, causing him to pause with even deeper guilt.

”You go rest for a while, I’ll watch over her.”

Madam Fang curtsied and quietly withdrew, taking the two little maidservants with her.

Seeing the room empty, Song Zhiyuan quietly lifted a corner of the quilt, then lifted the thin garment on the person on the bed, seeing the bruises and marks on her belly, it seemed as if witnessing the midwives’ efforts firsthand, his hand trembled involuntarily. He covered her back up, securing the blanket tightly.

This was his wife.

The great Madam Song felt as light as a feather, drifting in the darkness, unable to find an exit until warmth came, as if someone held her, ending her drifting.

A familiar hand, Madam Song’s eyelids fluttered, she struggled to open her eyes, and the first sight she saw was her husband.

Madam Song’s lips moved, but before she could speak, tears rolled down from the corners of her eyes.

At a glance, it felt like an eternity.
