The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 875: Chapter 875: Deadly Plague

Blossoms, what does it mean, blossoms?

Song Ci heard Nanny Gong’s words and was momentarily confused.

But upon hearing this, Mrs. Lu’s face turned deathly pale with disbelief, even Song Zhiqing’s face went white as he scrambled up from the ground.

”What, blossoms?” Song Zhiqing’s eyes widened, and he said, ”Everything was fine, how could there be smallpox?”

Smallpox!

Song Ci understood instantly upon hearing the word, what is this demon?

A deadly demon!

Smallpox is the equivalent of chickenpox, but ancient smallpox was not like modern times where vaccines are administered early; here there was no prevention, leading the ancients to fear its very mention.

Because it can potentially be fatal, even two Qing Dynasty emperors succumbed to it.

Song Ci felt her body turn cold.

Mrs. Lu came to her senses and without thinking wanted to rush inside, but was quickly restrained by Nanny Gong’s sharp eyes and swift hands.

”Third Madam, if you haven’t had smallpox, you cannot go in,” Nanny Gong said sternly.

Smallpox is extremely contagious, don’t let it spread; or else it would be catastrophic.

Mrs. Lu stiffened; she hadn’t had it, but inside was her son, how could she leave him?

Mrs. Lu wanted to lie and say she had had smallpox, but Song Zhiqing already spoke first, ”No, Ruxin has not had smallpox.”

”I am not afraid of getting infected, Mother, Nanny Gong, I am Zhou’er’s birth mother, I must be there to guard him,” Mrs. Lu said, anxious to stomp her feet.

Song Ci took a deep breath and said sternly, ”Don’t act impulsively, you aren’t afraid of getting infected, but if you catch it and it isn’t cured, it’s a death sentence. Lao San, hurry and ask Jiang Fula if the Imperial Physician has arrived; bring them over quickly.”

She was a first-rank Madam, faced with such a major event, her cold and commanding demeanor was imposing.

Song Zhiqing responded hastily and ran out quickly.

He certainly cared for his illegitimate child, but he cared for his legitimate child too; he only had one legitimate son, if something happened...

”Mother, let me go in to see Zhou’er, I’m not afraid to die,” Mrs. Lu said, clutching Song Ci’s hand and kneeling down.

Song Ci saw her face full of tears, her terror-stricken face softened her heart, and she said, ”To go in, you must first dress properly, Nanny Gong, call some people to prepare some items...”

Song Ci swiftly gave orders for oil paper, cotton handkerchiefs, vinegar, and strong alcohol, etc., made sure no one entered the house, and had it cut in the yard.

What she wanted was the simplest protective clothing made of oil paper, while on the other side, she sent people to call the-house doctor and Lin Qing.

Mrs. Lu cried uncontrollably, her whole body swaying, she had already been up all night and now hearing this dreadful news, she was barely holding up.

When Nanny Zhou returned and heard the news, her legs gave way, feeling as if she fell into an ice cellar.

On the other side, Bai Shuilian knelt at the Chunhui Hall courtyard gate, under the burning sun, looking somewhat languid, her face pale, causing the passing servants to frequently glance, point, and whisper mockingly and disdainfully.

Bai Shuilian heard them but kept her waist straight, though her hands hanging by her sides quietly clenched and her lowered eyes flashed with humiliation and resentment.

Suddenly, someone rushed into Chunhui Hall, the inner courtyard stirred, and several people then came out, walking hurriedly.

The voices faded away, yet Bai Shuilian faintly heard two words, eruptions.

Her heart tightened slightly, her clenched hand relaxed, slowly raising her head to look at the plaque with the name Chunhui Hall, her eyes deep, as if a storm was brewing.
