The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 874: Chapter 874: Make Bai Kneel Before Me

Lu Rushi looked shocked at the buns rolling on the ground and then at the person who had swept them down, her eyes filled with disbelief.

Was this still that gentle and refined scholar?

Song Zhiqing felt somewhat uncomfortable being watched by her. He, too, lost his temper for a moment. Seeing Lu Rushi leisurely eating breakfast here, his mind felt like it was burning with a ball of fire, and without thinking, he swept the buns onto the ground.

”I...” Song Zhiqing pressed his lips together and said, ”Yi’er is over there burning with fever, and you’re here having time to eat breakfast. I just got overwhelmed with anger for a moment.”

A wave of sadness surged in Lu Rushi’s heart. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and said, ”So are you here to denounce me for the sake of that child?”

”Is that how you speak?”

”Did I say anything wrong? You do care quite a bit for Yi’er. After all, he’s the child of the one you love. Zhou’er probably can’t compare.” Lu Rushi sneered coldly.

Song Zhiqing felt somewhat guilty and mumbled, ”Didn’t I come back right away to see Zhou’er?”

”Whether you first saw your legitimate son or came here first, doesn’t saying that make you feel ashamed? How dare you speak like that!”

”Lu Ruxin, you!” Song Zhiqing was so angry that he flung his sleeves and said, ”Forget it, I’m not going to argue with you. Since you’re not inclined to take care of Yi’er, why not send him back to Bai’s side for care?”

Lu Rushi mocked, ”So that was your intention all along, Bai must have been waiting for this moment.”

Song Ci walked out from the inner room, glanced at the buns on the floor, and then looked at Song Zhiqing with eyes as cold as can be.

Song Zhiqing’s expression changed drastically when he saw Song Ci. He stepped forward two steps and cupped his hands in salute: ”Mother.”

”Third son, look at what you’ve become now. Is this how you act as a husband?” Song Ci pointed at the buns on the ground and said, ”Zhou’er has been feverish all night, and Lu Rushi has been watching over him the whole time. When I arrived, she hadn’t even closed her eyes, so I told her to go down and eat something to pad her stomach, but you indiscriminately knocked the food over? Who the hell gave you the nerve, huh?”

Song Zhiqing was scolded until his face turned livid purple, and he knelt down to apologize: ”Mother, it’s my fault. I also just came back from the Government Office and have a bit of a temper after staying up all night. Seeing Yi’er feverish and unclear, I couldn’t control my anger.”

”Oh, so you think you’re justified? You, a fully grown man of Fifth Rank, can’t control your own temper and blame it on a bad mood. Doesn’t your face hurt? Yelling at your wife, is that what the Saint taught you? Has a dog eaten up all of your decency, leaving nothing but filth?”

Song Zhiqing hung his head and dared not retort.

Lu Rushi stepped forward to support Song Ci and said wearily, ”Mother, please calm down and don’t let this hurt your health; I’m fine. Since the master has said to let the sixth child go back to Bai’s place, I think just let it be. After all, I’m also stretched too thin.”

Song Ci shook off her hand, pointed at Song Zhiqing, and said, ”I used to think you were doing fine, but you’ve changed since taking a concubine? Is Bai giving you a potion to muddle your mind? Causing trouble for your legitimate wife for the sake of an illegitimate child, they sure have the gall. Someone, go and bring Bai to kneel at the gate of Chunhui Hall for me.”

Song Zhiqing’s expression changed, and he raised his head.

Song Ci looked towards Nanny Zhou standing at the door, ”Aren’t you going yet?”

Nanny Zhou immediately agreed and left.

Song Zhiqing wanted to say something, but Nanny Gong had already walked out from the inner room and said, ”Madam Dowager, this is not the time for arguing. The fourth young master’s fever is unusual. From what I observe, I’m afraid he might be about to break out in spots.”
