The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 639: Chapter 639: What Horror Story Are You Talking About?

Song Ci’s words, a combination of soft and hard tactics, made Madam Duke’s face increasingly difficult to behold. It wasn’t that she was angry at Madam Song’s insinuation that she harmed the Song family, but because Song Ci had touched a sore spot.

The bracelet was indeed something she bestowed, there was no doubt about that. She could claim it wasn’t her doing, but how to explain the bracelet? It was a tribute item, always kept in her private treasury, inaccessible to the average person. However, now that something was found hidden inside and they couldn’t trace who did it, naturally the blame fell on her.

So, is this throwing the pot on her head?!

”Go fetch the Heir’s wife’s bracelet as well, and don’t make a big commotion.” Madam Duke instructed her close nanny with a grim face.

”Yes.”

Madam Song observed Madam Duke’s mannerisms and realized that perhaps the latter had become a scapegoat. She also considered that her daughter would still have to live under their control in the future, so she lowered her stance to apologize.

”Dear in-law, I was so angry that I spoke out of turn. Please don’t blame me the same way, forgive me, please. I’m just feeling oppressed and troubled at heart. If it weren’t for this disaster, how could we worry about not having a great-grandson to hold?” Madam Song dabbed her eyes with a handkerchief.

After all, it was the Duke Mansion’s fault. Seeing her apologize, Madam Duke followed the cue: ”I understand, I feel the pain too. With all these issues, I’ve mostly handed the affairs of the mansion over to the Lu family. I really didn’t know such a big mistake occurred. Alas, the young are inexperienced.”

Madam Song, not being foolish at heart, listened to her tone and suspected she intended to seize control of the household?

Song Ci also noticed it, and with a glance at Madam Duke and then at the bright-eyed little Liao, she secretly scoffed, thinking they were both incredibly theatrical.

”Nanny Gong, you’ve been in earlier dynasties for some time too. Take a look at this, is it that bone-withering substance?”

Nanny Gong nodded and stepped forward to take the scented flakes from Lin Qing’s handkerchief. They were actually not very large, about the size of a fingernail, with three pieces in total.

She inspected the color closely, then sniffed, saying, ”Madam, this old servant has never actually seen bone-withering before. It’s a poison that was banned in the previous Emperor Xia’s reign, but I’ve heard that bone-withering lives up to its name, and its color is like blood. This...”

Song Ci looked at the blood-colored flakes with disgust, thinking this was the correct way to open the door to palace intrigue and domestic strife. Nothing sets off drama better than a miscarriage.

”Quite generous, giving out three pieces at a time. If one were to fall into the soup...”

”Madam...”

Everyone was shocked.

What horror story are you telling?

This is clearly an extremely serious incident, yet you talk as if you’re watching a spectacle.

Song Ci awkwardly said, ”I’m just saying, the other party was rather discreet. Why not just mix it directly into the soup?”

Lin Qing explained, ”These flakes aren’t colorless and tasteless. Although they could be blended into porridge or soup, they could also be discovered. And keeping it on one’s person, although the effect might be slower, it remains hidden. If undiscovered and continuously worn, over time, not only would it lead to miscarriages, but future pregnancies would easily lead to miscarriage. After even longer, it would cause direct damage to the body leading to infertility.”

Song Ci was taken aback, ”That ruthless?”

”Otherwise, why is it called bone-withering? It is exceedingly sinister,” Lin Qing sneered.

The enemy not only wanted Song Ruqi to miscarry but also intended for her to become infertile.

Madam Song and Madam Duke thought of this, their faces extremely unsightly. Who was Song Ruqi obstructing?

Nanny Mu returned, but behind her followed the Heir’s wife, Madam Lu.

”Madam, look.” Nanny Mu opened the exquisite sandalwood box in her hands, leaving the latter with an expression full of fatigue and confusion, wondering what had happened?
