The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 602: Chapter 602: Do Those with Power Have the Right to Do as They Please?

Prince Min wants to select a consort!

Song Ci raised an eyebrow, lowered his gaze; once again, the capital was going to be full of turbulence.

Prince Min was the youngest son of the late Emperor, a prince of the realm. His official wife, by status, would be even more esteemed than the Emperor Chu’s princes, truly a diamond-branded noble son-in-law, how could one not fight over him?

As for him being twenty-five, a bit old, well, in front of such noble status, that was nothing at all.

Look, Princess Consort Ji was so confident, even insisting that the fathers of the noble ladies attending the feast must be of at least Third Rank and that they be legitimate daughters.

Empress Dowager Wang laughed, put down her teacup, and said, ”Princess Ji, allow me to remind you that there are very few legitimate daughters from Third Rank official Marquis Mansions. Most of them, around the appropriate age, are already betrothed or married. If you restrict by rank, do you want Prince Min to remain a bachelor his whole life?”

Princess Consort Ji’s face froze: ”Already betrothed?”

”A few princes only had their weddings last year, and the Empress surely knows which noble ladies from Third Rank official families are still unbetrothed.” Empress Dowager Wang looked at Lian Qiao standing aside: ”Go to Kunning Palace and ask the Empress for a list.”

Lian Qiao curtsied and accepted the order.

Princess Consort Ji looked at Song Ci, swallowed her words, and said, ”It’s a pity that Madam Tai’s granddaughter is already married, otherwise she would be a fitting match.”

”Lady, you flatter us. The Song Family is in decline, how could we dare to match with the royal family?”

Song Ci thought, fortunately, my granddaughter is already married. Otherwise, how could she escape being set to rules by you, such a mother-in-law?

However, with a mother-in-law like this lacking intelligence, if a clever daughter-in-law comes along, who can say who will be in control!

Princess Consort Ji pouted, thinking at least you have some self-awareness.

While waiting for the list, Princess Consort Ji and Song Ci had already exchanged several rounds of verbal gibes.

Empress Gongsun came personally, greeted the others, and then presented the leftover list from the selection process for imperial concubines for the princes, updated over the year.

Good heavens, in a year, among the noble ladies who weren’t selected as imperial concubines, nine out of ten had already been betrothed, and some even married, not just among those of Third Rank, but even Fifth Rank and above.

There’s no other way; a girl’s blossom period is limited. If she isn’t chosen as an imperial concubine, she can’t just delay marrying, after all, they’re fourteen or fifteen; naturally, betrothals have to be rushed. If delayed further, all the good men will be taken.

”Only these five in the capital?” Princess Consort Ji’s face looked horrified as if she had overturned a palette. Among the five, only two were Third Rank or above, one a County Lord, the other a general’s daughter; the rest were below Third Rank.

This was truly awkward.

Empress Dowager Wang snorted coldly: ”Are there any young ladies of age not yet betrothed, waiting for you to choose? Let alone that Prince Min is already twenty-five.”

Princess Consort Ji stubbornly replied: ”With our Ze’er’s charm and status, he can choose as he wishes. Where’s the girl with sense who’d think their husband could match my son?”

Song Ci raised an eyebrow; this was suggesting that if they fancy someone, they’d snatch her away even if she’s betrothed?

Empress Dowager Wang slammed the table, scolding: ”According to you, Prince Min can choose anyone he likes, regardless if the lady is betrothed or married?”

Princess Consort Ji shrank her neck: ”Does my son not have the right to choose? He is a revered prince, the late Emperor’s most beloved youngest son.”

Empress Dowager Wang was furious, leaning back, thinking, is this brainless?

Empress Gongsun and Song Ci exchanged a glance, silently sipping their tea.

The legendary saying that power and influence can make people do as they please!
