The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 604: Chapter 604: Ignorant of What’s Good for Them

All things considered, the Song Family still has too few young women. Right now, it seems there’s a shortage; the older ones have already married, while the younger ones are either still nursing or there’s only one like Song Ruwei who is half-grown.

Other families at least have some cousin young ladies living in their mansion, who can accompany the adults to banquets.

But the Song Family, the old Madam was a child bride, so there is essentially no maternal family to speak of.

And Madam, her maternal Duke Zhongyong Mansion, she doesn’t encourage bringing her niece to live here, fearing that she might harm her own son.

Then there’s Mrs. Jiang. Coming from a merchant background, sorry, she’s an only daughter. Her father had deep affection for her mother and never remarried. Regarding the continuation of lineage, he had an open view, believing a daughter is also a bloodline continuation, so he didn’t mind not having a son.

Now Father Jiang is still traveling far and wide doing business. For one, he enjoys it, and secondly, it’s to accumulate assets to support his daughter and grandsons.

So, Mrs. Jiang’s family is extremely simple.

As for the Lu Family, they’re the maternal niece of Song Zhiqing’s biological mother. Lu Family came from humble beginnings, and a few years after Lu Family married Song Zhiqing, her whole maternal family perished in a flood.

The youngest daughter-in-law, the Commandery Princess? Let’s not even mention it; she not only didn’t bring any daughters to live here, but she also coaxed her own son away.

Looking at it this way, Song Ci wondered if the ancestral graves of the Song Family had bad feng shui, why is the family lineage so thin?

Even when finding a wife, the family is thin, except for the eldest wife coming from a large, established family!

However, this thin lineage has both pros and cons. The pro is that the mansion is serene without much filth; the con, to speak unluckily, is if something happens, there are no in-laws to offer support.

Luckily, this was only the case for the previous two generations. Looking at the next generation, they’re doing fairly well; at least two daughters married well with strong marital connections.

Right now, it’s up to the young men to see if the wives they marry will be able to greatly expand the family tree.

After Song Ci had an afternoon tea with the daughters-in-law, she let them each return to their own courtyards.

Lu Family sat in her main room, somewhat dispirited. Though improper, it wouldn’t hurt for Wei’er to go and see the world.

Nanny Zhou, upon hearing this, said, ”Madam, there’s really no need to regret. Third Miss is still young. Even if she were to show herself before the other madams, it’s unlikely they’d discuss marriage. It’s better to keep her like a bright pearl, meticulously raising her well. When the time is right, take her out with the elders, and what is that called? Making a stunning debut?”

True noble young ladies are mostly hidden deep within the inner chambers. Only when they come of age will they be presented to the world, announcing to all that our family has a daughter, grown and ready for marriage.

Lu Family nodded quietly, ”I was short-sighted.”

”Madam is just showing motherly love.” Nanny Zhou complimented.

Lu Family twitched her mouth, lifted her tea for a sip, and saw Jixiang bringing in a pair of shoes, the smile immediately faded.

”Madam, Aunt Bai made you a pair of shoes.”

Lu Family glanced at the shoes embroidered with lotus flowers in her hands, sneered, ”Give them to you. Tell her there’s no need to make these things. Properly raising Fifth Miss and Fifth Young Master is the real business.”

It was quite a coincidence, Aunt Bai’s pair of children, in the Song Family’s next generation, both ranked fifth.

”Yes.”

Outside, Song Zhiqing had a darkened face, a bit displeased, and turned around to go to Aunt Bai’s courtyard. Seeing her making shoe uppers, he grabbed them and tossed them aside, ”You are kind, how can you know if people appreciate it? Don’t make them anymore; it’s not worth it enduring eye strain.”

Lu Family, she’s someone who remains ungrateful no matter how much warmth you give.
