The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 619: Chapter 619 Madam’s Virtue is Boundless

When Song Ci found out that the Empress Dowager’s friend had her back once again, she burst into a proud laugh, like an old chrysanthemum blooming, and cheerily told the palace nanny and others, ”This shows the importance of hugging the right thigh!”

What could everyone say? What harm is there in the old lady’s boasting this time? It’s just self-praise after all, just let her be.

Song Ci added, ”In return for the favor, I’ve decided to personally dig up a basket of potatoes to send into the palace, so the Lady can have a taste.”

The palace nanny twitched her mouth, ”Old Madam, the weather is too cold, let Chen Da and the others dig them up, how can you do it yourself?”

”That won’t do, the Empress Dowager protects me so much; what’s wrong with me digging up a basket of potatoes for her? It’s my sincere gesture,” Song Ci replied, ”Quick, tie the wrist guard on me.”

The potatoes she planted herself also had to be dug up by herself to satisfy her sense of accomplishment.

Everyone was helpless, so they fetched the wrist guard and tied it on her.

Many of the stewards and masters at Prince Dingbei’s Mansion knew about today’s potato harvest and, having nothing to do, they all came to the garden to watch the fun, wanting to see if these things could actually grow.

Seeing Song Ci, who had no airs and wanted to do it herself, they secretly sighed that this Old Madam was still grounded and indeed had the air of someone who had farmed.

Song Ci was not nervous, for Chen Da and the others had already dug some up and reported back; indeed, they had grown, but she didn’t know about the yield.

So she wasn’t worried about being embarrassed, with a bit of the protagonist’s halo, she had some confidence.

The people tending to the potato field had already cut the sprouts. Song Ci picked up a handy shovel, squatted down, and started digging.

”Mother, be careful of your hands,” Niu Pan’er cautioned worriedly, supporting her large belly.

Song Ci deftly worked, replying without looking up, ”No worries, it’s just digging up potatoes, your mother-in-law here can climb mountains and till fields; this little task is nothing, just wait till I make you some shredded potatoes.”

As she dug the dirt, she saw a long, oval, yellow-skinned potato and her eyes lit up.

She dug up the soil around the potatoes, and more and more potatoes, big and small, appeared before her. She threw down the shovel and pulled up a whole bunch of potatoes by their roots with her hands.

The palace nanny rubbed her forehead, unable to bear the sight, is this still the high-and-mighty Old Madam?

Everyone gasped, they really grew, and quite a large bunch at that. Isn’t it said that just one small piece of potato was planted, yet so many grew?

Everyone started to discuss excitedly; this yield was astonishing.

Chen Da and the other farmers had already seen it, but seeing such a large bunch, they couldn’t help but feel elated, rubbing their hands with tears in their eyes.

A small piece of potato seed could produce so many; if planted on a large scale, the people of Great Qing wouldn’t have to worry about famine anymore!

”Old Madam’s virtue is immeasurable, this old servant thanks Old Madam on behalf of the people for her blessing,” Chen Da wiped the corner of his eyes with the back of his hand and knelt before Song Ci.

With his kneeling, all the farmers fell to their knees, visibly moved.

They were all ordinary farmers, and only they knew how important food was, especially during times of famine, having food was crucial.

Now, this thing called a potato, one could be divided into several seed pieces, one seed could grow a bunch, meaning low investment and high return, how could they not be excited?

Holding grain in hand, there’s no panic in the heart, nothing is more joyful than a full granary.

Song Ci, clutching a bunch of potatoes: ”...”
