The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 635: Chapter 635: Will Not Let It Go

Song Ruqi’s room was in complete disarray, yet nothing amiss was discovered.

Seeing her in-law’s increasingly stern face, the Duke’s Madam’s expression stiffened.

She wanted to say it might have been an accident, but seeing the bruises on Song Ruqi’s calf, she couldn’t bring herself to say it. It certainly wasn’t something Song Ruqi could have done to herself by accident, she couldn’t just use this as an opportunity to make a fuss.

If she really dared to say that, it’s likely Song Ci would unleash her sharp tongue, not leaving her a shred of dignity.

The Duke’s Madam knew all too well the cruelty of the struggles in the backyard. She feared Song Ruqi really fell victim to a scheme, but it was unclear whether the Lu family acted, or the young Liao family, or perhaps someone from the outside.

Young Lady Liao caught her mother-in-law’s suspicious glance, her heart skipped a beat—what’s this, they’re suspecting her now?

Song Ruqi looked exhausted. She had just had a miscarriage and had not fully recovered. Learning she was intentionally harmed, she was both mentally and physically drained, growing increasingly weak.

Madam Song felt deeply pained at the sight, quickly ordering someone to tidy up the bed for her to rest, and entrusted Lin Qing to concoct a new prescription and medicinal meal for her.

Lin Qing, seeing Song Ruqi’s bloodless face, said, ”Third Madam, let me give you two needles. Sleep for a bit to regain your strength, doing it this way is no solution.”

Song Ruqi shook her head, biting her pale lips, ”No, I want to wait for the truth.”

Her child was still waiting for her; she dared not to sleep.

Looking across, Song Ci saw that after a series of blows, Song Ruqi was a spent arrow, staying up would only harm her without benefit, and as for investigating, it wasn’t something that could be immediately resolved.

”You must listen to the doctor, first take care of yourself. With a strong body, you’ll have the grounds to seek justice for your child. Otherwise, even if you have the will, you’ll lack the strength,” Song Ci said solemnly. ”If the truth could be found so quickly, you wouldn’t need to endure this. The one who acted must have been prepared, even considering a retreat path, so we must investigate thoroughly. Others can wait, but your body cannot. Listen to me.”

Song Ruqi sniffed, wiped her eyes, lay down obediently, and closed her eyes.

Lin Qing dismissed everyone and started acupuncture, softly comforting her as she slowly drifted to sleep, sighing once more.

Even as she slept, her brows were furrowed. Lin Qing placed her hands under the blanket, then lifted her right hand, adorned with a delicate bracelet.

While Lin Qing was occupied, Song Ci said to the Duke’s Madam, ”Madam, this matter must be thoroughly investigated. Qi San is of this age and finally married with a legitimate son, only to be harmed. Had this not happened, in a few months you would be holding a golden grandson. It’s such a pity...”

As she spoke, her face turned mournful, and tears welled up and flowed instantly, a remarkable sight to behold as she cried.

Madam Song said, ”Mother-in-law, with such a vicious person in the Duke Mansion, it’s truly like keeping a venomous snake by one’s side. Today it was my Qi’er who suffered; who knows who might be next. An innocent child, lost to such evil. You must seek justice for your poor grandchild and daughter-in-law!”

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law took turns pressuring, which forced the Duke’s Madam into a difficult spot.

”Rest assured, Matriarch and Lady-in-law, if a vile person truly exists, I will certainly uncover them and make them pay with their life for the child’s sake,” the Duke’s Madam forced a smile.

Song Ci remarked, ”I know the Duke’s Madam is fair and just. Rest assured, if the person is indeed found, and the Duke Mansion is reluctant to deal with it, the Prime Minister’s Mansion can handle it.”

The Duke’s Madam’s face darkened.

This was indirectly saying the Prime Minister’s Mansion would not let this go!
