The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 627: Chapter 627: Make a Vow, The Old Lady Is Really Ruthless

Song Ci cheerfully folded the recognition certificate and tucked it into her sleeve. Since traveling through time, she managed to earn a merit by using a potato that would become ordinary in the future. Oh, isn’t she the lucky one?

The Empress Dowager Wang was very curious and asked two questions she dared not pose: ”Ah Ci, why are you collecting this?”

Both Emperor Chu and Song Zhiyuan perked up their ears.

Song Ci blatantly lied, ”To frame it.”

Everyone: ”???”

Are you kidding us?

”Ah Ci, stop being cheeky,” said the Empress Dowager Wang helplessly.

Song Ci glanced at the equally curious Emperor Chu, raised her fingers, and vowed, ”Lady, I swear to heaven that I will never use these certificates for any nefarious deeds or anything harmful to the Great Qing. If I break this vow, I am willing to be consigned to Avici Hell, never to reincarnate.”

Everyone was terrified.

Such a dire vow, far more severe than any curse of divine retribution.

And when ancient people swore, they meant it.

The Empress Dowager Wang, face pale, said, ”Why must you swear such a vicious vow? Do I not trust you?”

Emperor Chu also said, ”Aunt, you are too sincere.”

Song Zhiyuan said nothing, merely blinking in disbelief.

Never to reincarnate—that’s a curse one wouldn’t dare to imagine.

Lady, you’re truly ruthless!

Song Ci laughed candidly, ”It’s fine, don’t worry. Since I won’t do it, I won’t suffer from the vow’s backlash. Lady, why don’t we have a meal? I’m hungry.”

”Alright, Lian Qiao, serve the meal.”

At her command, the palace maids and eunuchs swiftly got to work, quickly setting up a dining table covered with several dishes, featuring fresh greenhouse greens and various potato dishes.

Emperor Chu found it fascinating and said, ”So potatoes can be made into dishes too. Now ordinary households also have another dish to pair with their meals.”

Some truly impoverished families couldn’t even afford vegetables.

But now, potatoes could serve as the main ingredient, as well as be boiled, stir-fried, or stewed, killing several birds with one stone.

Song Ci said, ”It contains enough starch to replace grains and rice for satiety. For those with ideas, focusing on this aspect might produce more things, no?”

Like potato flour, cooking starch, and so on. However, to avoid causing too much of a stir, she held back.

But Song Ci held back, yet she couldn’t stop having an unintentionally inquisitive ally, the ever-curious Empress Dowager Wang.

”Ah Ci, how do you know so much? Isn’t this from overseas?”

Song Zhiyuan and Emperor Chu also looked over. Indeed, from overseas, yet you can grow it and know how to eat it. Quite capable, it seems.

Song Ci’s heart raced wildly, dealing with not just the naïve Empress Dowager but these two sharp men as well.

She put on a harmless smile and said, ”This potato came from the Xiazhi Foreign Trading Company in the capital. I heard they eat a lot of this overseas, so I asked the shopkeeper a few more questions.”

”A shop? The name sounds odd,” noted the Empress Dowager Wang, repeating the name.

Emperor Chu remarked, ”Shops from overseas are generally called trading companies. Some imported goods from there are indeed good. I also plan to open sea trade routes and do business with foreign countries.”

The Empress Dowager Wang frowned slightly and said, ”If so, some of the old conservatives at court might protest using all sorts of archaic arguments.”

Any new policy, the old conservatives always opposed them.

Emperor Chu and Song Zhiyuan exchanged a glance and said, ”No matter how difficult, I am determined to make it happen.”

Song Ci thought it far-sighted. Trading with overseas, that would hugely boost economic development. With a well-developed economy and traditional cultural exports, one could build a strong nation. Impressive!
