The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 634: Chapter 634: Long-Prepared Plan

Song Ruqi was raised in comfort and care since childhood, surrounded by servants, her skin kept fair and tender. A slight pinch could leave a mark, such obvious bruises, who wouldn’t change their expression upon seeing them?

Madam Song and Shuhua exclaimed in surprise, even Song Ruqi herself was a bit dazed.

”This, this...”

Song Ci stepped forward to look closer, pressing gently, causing Song Ruqi to wince and retract her foot.

”Shuhua, go call the gentleman in.”

Shuhua curtsied and went out to fetch Qi Zhen.

Qi Zhen quickly came in from outside, Song Ci stepped aside and said to him, ”Come take a look.”

He approached, following Song Ci’s finger with his gaze, landing on his wife’s calf, and paused in surprise.

”You practice martial arts, can you tell if this bruise could be caused by some external force?” Song Ci asked.

Qi Zhen’s expression changed, he countered, ”Wasn’t this from a collision?”

Song Ci spoke with a nuanced smile, ”I heard you visited the pavilion where the incident occurred and found nothing unusual, not even snow or ice.”

Qi Zhen nodded, indeed there was nothing, the steps and ground were rather dry.

”That explains it,” Song Ci said. ”Qi’er said on the steps, her calf suddenly cramped sharply with pain, causing her to lose her balance and fall. It seems likely because of this.”

A storm began to brew in Qi Zhen’s eyes, he understood Song Ci’s implication.

”A small bump in itself is nothing, but if she was suddenly shot at, and she is pregnant, naturally she couldn’t keep steady and fell down the steps, it’s not surprising.”

Even with mental preparation, knowing something was coming at you could be stressful enough, let alone being caught completely unaware, suddenly frightened and startled. For a delicately nurtured lady, how could she remain calm?

Song Ruqi stared blankly, realizing someone truly intended harm to her and her child.

”If someone skilled in martial arts, or simply with a slingshot, shot something wrapped from afar, hitting her and frightening her, it could achieve the same effect,” Song Ci gestured.

Madam Song’s eyes reddened with rage, her face twisted in anger, ”Investigate, this must be investigated.”

Qi Zhen exuded a cold and fierce aura, ”I will investigate immediately.”

He strode out, intending to check the pavilion once again.

Song Ruqi felt a chill throughout her body, couldn’t help but huddle herself, feeling particularly helpless and weak.

She was afraid.

Song Ci glanced at her, involuntarily sighed. The Song Family’s members were few, the inner courtyard quiet, with few women and thus less strife, naturally avoiding such sordid matters, unaware of the brutal reality of domestic women’s feuds.

Currently, it’s unknown who did it, but it’s clear they did not want Song Ruqi to give birth to this child.

Apart from a woman, who wouldn’t want her to have the child, and who would be obstructed by its birth?

Song Ci’s mind flashed with several faces, all seemed suspicious.

”Lin Qing, falling is one thing, but it might not be that the child cannot be preserved, according to your and Qi’er’s speculation, there might be another plan in place. Could you take a look and see if there’s anything amiss in this room? For instance, something kept that’s cold or unusual?” Song Ci recalled the lady who came to plead with her at home before, ”I heard that the Guanyin worshipped by that Madam Tang had musk contraception and other sinister things placed.”

Lin Qing said, ”This requires a thorough check everywhere.”

Madam Song commanded her servant Xin Mama, ”Call people in, check everything for me, I want to see who is so malicious.”

Xin Mama went out in fear.

The madam of the Duke’s family, noticing the commotion, couldn’t help but enter and inquire.

Madam Song sneered, ”Mother-in-law, the miscarriage of Qi’er was no accident; it was premeditated long ago.”
