The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 624: Chapter 624 The Emperor’s Favoritism Knows No Bounds

Song Ci said that if these potatoes are presented, they will definitely receive a reward. If Emperor Chu is pleased, naturally he will reward based on merit.

Chen Da, a mere tenant farmer, because of his contribution to cultivating, suddenly transformed and became an official, from a tenant farmer to an officer.

And although the main effort for the potatoes came from Song Ci, the first batch of potatoes was entirely requisitioned as seed potatoes. This came from Prince Dingbei’s Mansion’s land, and it should also be rewarded.

Song Zhiyu was surprised: ”Your Majesty, is there also a reward for Prince Dingbei’s Mansion?”

”Indeed, the mansion provided at least half an acre of land and also manpower and resources.”

Song Zhiyu smiled happily and said: ”In that case, why not grant a name as a reward, Your Majesty?”

Emperor Chu raised an eyebrow: ”Hmm?”

Song Zhiyu excitedly said: ”The child of the Minister and the Commandery Princess is about to be born. As you know, the Commandery Princess spent her days on the battlefield and doesn’t understand wind and moon elegance, and I am a wanderer. We have thought of many names, but none seem fitting. If Your Majesty would grant a reward, why not bestow a name upon the child of the Minister and the Commandery Princess?”

Prime Minister Fan and others sneered, thinking it was a pig, turns out it was a tiger, pretending to be a pig.

Bestowing a name is such a great reward, much better than rewarding with money or something. Besides, does the mansion lack gold and silver treasures? What they lack is reputation.

Once that child receives a name bestowed by the Emperor, the Emperor will certainly regard them more highly in the future.

Those who are not family do not enter the same door. It is indeed the sibling of the thousand-year-old fox Prime Minister Song, equally cunning.

Even Emperor Chu was somewhat interested and said: ”The child is not yet born and its gender is unknown, and you want to decide on a name?”

”Regardless of gender, a name bestowed by Your Majesty is certainly good.” Song Zhiyu did not blink.

Emperor Chu thought for a moment, took the imperial brush, stood up and wrote a word, sealed it with the Jade Seal.

”In that case, I bestow the name: Shen, caution; sincerity; keeper of virtue.”

Song Zhiyuan’s eyelid twitched, but his face did not show any expression.

Prime Minister Fan raised an eyebrow, half-smiling, moving a stone to smash one’s own foot?

Shen, doesn’t it just mean that Prince Dingbei’s Mansion should be cautious and not harbor any improper thoughts?

Song Zhiyu happily accepted it.

He didn’t care what the word represented. Having a name bestowed by the Emperor is like punching a card in front of the Emperor. As long as the child does not rebel, they can tread freely.

Emperor Chu saw his genuinely happy expression, raising an eyebrow, sometimes a fool has a bit of foolish luck.

”Bestowing a name is but a casual matter. The Commandery Princess has fought for the country and only now marry and have children, which is an injustice. Reward Prince Dingbei’s Mansion with one thousand taels of silver, a century-old ginseng, and a pound of imperial swallow’s nest to nourish the body.”

So generous.

Song Zhiyu joyfully knelt down to thank the Emperor.

His purpose of entering the palace was achieved, he knelt down and respectfully withdrew.

Emperor Chu then spoke to a few ministers about the promotion and cultivation of these potatoes, which is indeed a commendable matter for the nation and should naturally be put on the agenda. With full granaries, there is no worry at any time.

After political matters were discussed, Eunuch Hai from Cining Palace came to convey the Empress Dowager’s verbal message.

Emperor Chu heard that the Empress Dowager and Song Ci personally cooked, again a potato feast, and cheerfully called on Song Zhiyuan.

As for the other eager ministers, Emperor Chu was generous, rewarding each with a few pounds of potatoes to take home and cook, to try something new.

Prime Minister Fan’s old face turned somewhat dark.

This favoritism was boundless.

He, a veteran minister of two dynasties, couldn’t even get a meal.

After Emperor Chu and Song Zhiyuan went to Cining Palace, a minister from the Fan Party approached and said: ”Prime Minister, Prime Minister Song is becoming more favored by the Emperor, and the Song Family is reaching new heights.”

A mere tenant from the Song Family, just because he planted a couple of potatoes, received a government position, who wouldn’t be envious?

Prime Minister Fan chuckled: ”Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown. The higher one stands, the deeper and more perilous the fall!”

He just decided to keep his eyes open wide, to see if they would always remain at the top.
