The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 606: Chapter 606 Song Ci: Who do you think you are to challenge me?

Song Ci deliberately twisted Princess Consort Ji’s sarcasm, but no one dared to say anything about it, except for those two women with their heads full of vermillion hairpins.

”Madam Song, you are really good at joking, are you sure the Dowager meant to praise you?” An old woman with triangular eyes chuckled.

Song Ci glanced over, sizing her up.

This old woman must be over sixty, her hair thinning, even wearing a wig, which is understandable as hair issues are inevitable with age.

But still, wearing a head full of vermillion hairpins, and two of them are pure golden hairpins, isn’t it heavy?

Seeing her stiff neck, there was concern that it might break under the weight.

The old woman felt uneasy under her gaze, as if sitting on pins and needles.

She forgot that Madam Song is famously sharp-tongued.

Sure enough, the other party spoke.

”Who are you?”

The old woman’s face turned green.

”Madam Song, you are indeed so busy that you can’t remember. We even met at the Bai Family banquet!” said a woman about the same age as Princess Consort Ji with a half-smile.

”You did say I’m busy, having met doesn’t mean I’d remember, so who are you?”

The faces of the old woman and the woman turned dark, looking at Princess Consort Ji with eyes pleading for her to make a decision.

Princess Anping then laughed and smoothed things over, saying, ”Madam, you never liked attending banquets, just like the Earl Anle Madam, who is devoted to Buddhism, so you naturally haven’t met. These are the Dowager’s family members, Madam Ji and Doctor Ji.”

”Oh? So they are from the Earl Anle Mansion?” Song Ci raised an eyebrow.

As mentioned before, the Ji Family soared thanks to Princess Consort Ji, with the entire family benefitting. Although the late emperor didn’t grant any high official positions, he bestowed the Earl Anle title with a white-collar stipend.

Princess Consort Ji was only forty-three, yet the youngest in her family. When she met the late emperor, her parents had just passed, so the first Earl Anle title was given to her older brother.

The current Madam in front of her is the sister-in-law of Princess Consort Ji, and the doctor of the same age is her niece-in-law.

After Princess Consort Ji went to her fief, the Earl Anle decisively lay low, scattering family members either back home or to Xuzhou with Princess Consort Ji, leaving only the main branch in the capital. With fewer people, even wayward youths couldn’t create a stir, typical of thunder with little rain, easily fading away among the capital’s nobility.

Among the noble ladies, some looked down on the Ji Family’s inability to fit in and refused to associate with them, overlooking invitations for certain banquets.

However, rumors of Princess Consort Ji’s return sparked the Ji Family’s sudden high-profile resurgence, resembling prisoners freshly released, with Ji family members frequently appearing throughout the capital city.

With someone backing them, their tone grows, as does their arrogance, evident in the demeanor of Ji Madam and her daughter-in-law.

Song Ci chuckled, as if no one else has support behind them.

”Dowager, you are the late emperor’s concubine, impeccable in etiquette, I assumed it was familial connections at play, turns out, I was mistaken.”

Princess Consort Ji froze for a moment, what’s that supposed to mean?

Madam Ji and her company were equally baffled.

It’s no wonder they didn’t understand Song Ci’s sarcastic insinuation, for after their rise, their rural mindset lingered, focusing daily on jewelry and clothing, forgetting to enrich themselves with knowledge. This was evident from their crowded hairpins, as few present adorned themselves like wishing to wear their entire dressing table on their heads.
