The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 616: Chapter 616: Impossible to Become Relatives

Just as Princess Anping was discussing her children’s marriage affairs with her Prince Consort, Song Ci was asking Nanny if the words of the Princess were a test.

Ancient people say that marriage talks are always subtle, to avoid harming the reputation of the children if the talks fall apart.

Song Ci had lived like an ancient person for over a year, and having been through a few matchmaking events, she naturally guessed the intentions of the Princess.

Nanny said, ”It’s very likely.”

Song Ci immediately thought of Commandery Princess Shou Ning and said, ”That Commandery Princess Shou Ning is quite excellent, well-mannered, and from a good family. Unfortunately, she is destined not to become part of our Song Family.”

Nanny handed over a cup of tea, somewhat surprised, ”Since you praise her so highly, why?”

”Are you testing me? I don’t believe you don’t know why I said that.” Song Ci chuckled, displaying a knowing look.

Nanny knelt down in a proper manner, ”This old servant does not know, please enlighten me.”

Song Ci snorted, ”You’re not following the usual ways, it’s boring.”

Nanny smiled, tore off a piece of fruit peel, and threw it into the charcoal stove, saying, ”If you want to say it, you would naturally say it, why must this old servant cooperate?”

Alright, you’re impressive.

Song Ci: ”Commandery Princess Shou Ning comes from an extremely prestigious background, being the Emperor’s niece. We already have a commandery princess daughter-in-law in the family, where would we house another prominent figure like her? The Emperor wouldn’t approve.”

No matter how trustworthy the son is as a minister of the Emperor, it’s impossible to bring all the good connections into one’s own family, otherwise, it would truly become a situation where each marriage alliance brings a network of connections, tsk-tsk.

”What did Mother say?”

Song Zhiyuan walked in, just happening to hear this.

Nanny knelt and paid her respects, took another cup, served tea, and then retreated to the doorway.

Song Zhiyuan warmed himself by the stove for a while and asked, ”I heard Mother was wronged at Prince Min Mansion?”

”The news you hear travels fast. I wasn’t exactly wronged. Your mother has a thick skin, is quite battle-ready, and most people can’t make me feel wronged.”

Song Zhiyuan laughed and sat on the other side of the Arhat bed, ”As long as Mother does not feel wronged, if anyone provokes you, feel free to retaliate. If something happens, your son will back you up.”

Song Ci felt comforted in her heart, what a good son.

”Mother is aware.”

”Mother mentioned the Emperor earlier? Could it be that the potatoes you planted are ready for tribute?” Song Zhiyuan was still thinking about the potatoes she planted at the Prince Mansion.

It had been a few months, they should be ready to harvest, right?

Song Ci counted on her fingers and smiled, ”Almost, I will go to the Prince Mansion to dig them up in a couple of days. But it’s not about that, today at Prince Min Mansion, I met Princess Anping, she mentioned our Su’er.”

Song Zhiyuan understood immediately and shook his head, ”Our family cannot form a marital relationship with the Princess Mansion.”

”Mother understands, the Song family is already very prestigious, naturally it cannot be matched with someone even more prestigious.” Song Ci didn’t play politics, but she wasn’t ignorant of history either; she’d watched plenty of palace drama series. How could she not know the precarious position of highly esteemed ministers?

The Emperor most feared are ministers whose accomplishments overshadow his authority.

”As long as you understand.”

Song Ci thought for a moment and said, ”However, Su’er is already fifteen years old. Although it’s better to establish a name before marrying, if there’s someone suitable, it’s good to settle it to avoid constant speculation.”

”Even if you don’t say it, I’m already preparing to settle it.” Settling it also brings peace of mind.

Seeing this, Song Ci did not say more, ”As long as you understand, I’m not afraid of anything else, just afraid that Gu might make a rash decision, only considering the prestigious and making a foolish move.”

Madam Song, who was innocently caught in the crossfire, felt panicked, worried that her mother-in-law might have issues with her.
