Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

The bustling street, the chaotic crowd.

This is Yanjing, this is the hope of humanity, this is the paradise in the apocalypse!

Wang Jie quietly tightened his hood, hiding his entire body underneath it, then slowly walked towards the distant square.

The Transmission Square—its original name has been lost to time, and no one cares about the name of a square, but because it is one of the only three transmission points in the outer city zone of the Yanjing Assembly Site, it remains memorable.

The entire square has five Exchange Stone Pillars in the southeast, southwest, northeast, northwest, and center, all authorized by Eternal Sky City for transmissions. From here, one can directly travel to various global destinations via Eternal Sky City.

The apocalypse brought destruction and devastation, but it also introduced advanced technology...

Wang Jie couldn’t help but appreciate the convenience of travel, then lined up at the northern Exchange Stone Pillar.

...

The queue was neat and orderly. Yanjing, the Land protected by Divine Spirits, the Land of budding hopes, the last fortress of humanity, carries many titles that shroud Yanjing in a layer of mystery. Here, according to ancient sayings, is called under the emperor’s feet, and under the emperor’s feet, evil retreats. Not just the original inhabitants of the Yanjing Assembly Site and Eternal Sky City, even outsiders understand that this is not a place where you can do as you please.

Strict laws and exceptional military forces are enough to provide a nightmare experience for anyone daring to create trouble here!

Yes, in terms of strictness, the Yanjing Assembly Site might be second to only one place... a place Wang Jie is about to visit.

The queue moved slowly. Wang Jie was rather indifferent, his long career of fighting and solitary existence had long taught him restraint and the habit of waiting. However, after all, this is Yanjing, and Yanjing Assembly Site’s inhabitants, as Wang Jie described, are ”pampered”...

Everyone eating royal rations, living in the safest place, far away from danger, entertainment options rival even those before the apocalypse—even this transmission queue area is equipped with damn WIFI coverage!

So, it was unsurprising that a sharply dressed man in front of Wang Jie, wearing gold-rimmed glasses and having a mouth like a rat’s, turned back and started a conversation with Wang Jie.

”Brother, where are you heading?”

With a smile on his face and chatty demeanor, Wang Jie frowned slightly—compared to the outside world filled with guarded hostility, a world where people are ready to draw knives upon meeting, Wang Jie found it difficult to acclimate to this place...

After pondering for a moment, just as the man ahead began to feel stumped, Wang Jie finally spoke.

”Africa.”

”Oh, oh, oh~~ Africa! That’s a good place, you’re heading to Star of Africa, right?”

The man said: ”Buddy, let me call you buddy, I’m heading to Africa too, how about we travel together?”

Wang Jie lightly shook his head: ”I’m used to being alone.”

Could he not be used to being alone? As a lone wolf in the wilderness, as the current known strongest Independent in the Northeast of Cathay, as a Sequence-class expert without the title of Sequence but has the reality of Sequence, Wang Jie’s partner—sorry, he doesn’t need a partner...

The man didn’t show any regretful emotion; he fully understood the arrogant demeanor of these outsiders, each wrapping themselves up like a turtle with indifference and vigilance, a group of people who fundamentally don’t need social relationships.

He inwardly cursed ”Turtle”, yet his tone didn’t become distant.

There’s nothing else to do while queuing, just small talk then, after all, if we’re chatting, then what’s the difference in what we chat about? Conveniently, being the Minister of Foreign Trade of the Three Bones Society, the monkey-faced man excelled at small talk.

”Brother, you’re new to Yanjing?”

”Just arrived yesterday.”

Wang Jie stated briefly.

”Haven’t wandered around here? There are quite a few decent attractions in the outer city zone; oh right, the Great Wall was renovated recently and is open for tours now, you can’t be a true man until you’ve climbed the Great Wall.”

Wang Jie remained expressionless, and the monkey-faced man rounded off his own corny joke: ”Those are just marketing slogans, let me tell you, the reopening of the Great Wall is nothing but the military trying to make some money by developing tourism; the tickets there are ridiculously expensive, if you want to go, let me know, I can set you up with a VIP pass, pay the price of a regular ticket, enjoy VIP services.”

The monkey-faced man was relentlessly chatty; Wang Jie was quite bothered. Seeing that the monkey-faced man continued without stopping, Wang Jie had to interject.

”So... uh, big brother, you’re going to Star of Africa too?”

”Yes, I’m heading there for some business.”

”And, do you often go to Star of Africa?”

The monkey-faced man nodded proudly: ”I’m there for about half the year, oh right, here’s my card.”

The monkey-faced man said this, pulled out a card from his space ring, and handed it to Wang Jie, on which several golden embossed words read—Minister of Foreign Trade of the Three Bones Society, Zhang Changong...

Three Bones Society... quite infamous, the biggest gang in the Yanjing Assembly Site! But frankly speaking, they’re just the military’s lackeys, fooling the civilians one by one; when facing people with real influence, these guys are nothing but worthless scum!

As for the name Zhang Changong...

Wang Jie critiqued inwardly, then pocketed the card, lightly pulled his hood, and exposed the lower half of his face.

”Then big brother, could you tell me about Star of Africa? I just came from the Northeast, first time going to Star of Africa, everything unfamiliar...”

To deal with a chatterbox, all you need is an opening, and the rest is just letting him perform—believe me, he won’t disappoint you...

Indeed...

”Star of Africa...”

Zhang Changong’s tone was leisurely, as if he was narrating a mystical story.

”That’s an adult’s domain.”

Wang Jie stayed silent. Though being an Independent, he generally didn’t care much about worldly matters, he had already gathered all the necessary information before this trip, and the so-called adult in Zhang Changong’s mouth...

In this world, only one person deserves the title of adult, without any need for prefixes!

”Speaking of which, Star of Africa is quite a peculiar place. Hmm, it was about five years ago when the adult used Heavenly awe-inspiring authority to connect heaven and earth, creating a city from thin air. Two months later, Star of Africa officially opened to the public.”

”In terms of scale, Star of Africa can’t compare to Yanjing, but compared to other major assembly sites, it’s still nothing to scoff at. But I tell you honestly, Star of Africa is not suitable for living; you want to travel, explore, or just have a look, that’s all well and good. Once in Africa, you’ve entered the adult’s realm, and there’s generally no issue with security, but if you want to reside there long-term... heh heh.”

”If you’re not planning to farm, you won’t even survive!”
