Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

The eyes are the windows to the soul; from them you can see the moods, the spirituality, even more complex emotions of a sentient being.

But right now, in Tang Haofei’s eyes there wasn’t the slightest glimmer of intelligence; what radiated from them was nothing but bestial cruelty and ferocity.

And a beast is never picky about its food...

He was tormented by hunger, so he greedily devoured flesh and blood. Only when every scrap of the Guardian’s flesh on the ground had been swept clean did Tang Haofei finally stop this barbaric act, flop onto his back on the soil of the treasure land, and gulp for breath.

He closed his eyes; his powerful digestion rapidly dissolved the flesh in his belly, converting it into energy to replenish himself. Very soon, he drifted off into sleep.

...

When he opened his eyes again, he had no idea how much time had passed. Chaotic, noisy thoughts flashed through his mind in succession; all sorts of emotions regenerated and flared up. The light in his eyes slowly began to return, though it was still blurry.

Soon, Tang Haofei recalled what mattered right now.

”Right, the Origin Extraction Device.”

The low murmur awakened his memories. Tang Haofei kept muttering the words ”Origin Extraction Device” under his breath as he staggered to his feet and groped his way toward the nearby exit of the treasure land.

Not until the feeling of teleportation Dizziness washed over him and the light of the outside world shone on his face did Tang Haofei give his head a hard shake, trying to dredge up more things he’d forgotten. But in his ears there sounded a voice that was both familiar and strange.

”You’re back? Looking at you... doesn’t seem like you’re doing too well.”

...

”You’re back? Looking at you... doesn’t seem like you’re doing too well.”

After waiting another three hours and twenty-three minutes, Wen Yu finally saw Tang Haofei appear.

Taking in Tang Haofei’s blood‑soaked body, shredded clothes, and dazed expression, Wen Yu was at once relieved he didn’t have to face a Level 11 powerful expert, and relieved that Tang Haofei’s condition was poor.

According to the last favor incident Tang One had handed down, Wen Yu was destined to shoulder most of the pressure coming from Tang Haofei. But unless absolutely necessary, Wen Yu really didn’t want to have a go with Tang Haofei—because for Wen Yu, that would surely be a disaster...

So you being in bad shape is the best outcome!

Tang Haofei’s eyes went out of focus for a moment, and the figure before him slowly became clear.

”Ah... you’re... Wen Yu...”

As the figure in front of him overlapped with his memories, it took Tang Haofei several seconds to recall the man’s name. After that came silence.

”What’s wrong with you?”

Seeing that Tang Haofei was in poor condition, Wen Yu asked softly, but got only a shake of the head in response.

”It’s nothing, the Origin Extraction Device...”

”Oh, that.”

Wen Yu waved his hand with a smile, then pointed toward the horizon.

”Look over there, it’s been dealt with, by me, by you, by us.”

Wen Yu’s face was all smiles, while Tang Haofei stiffly shifted his gaze to the horizon—the Space cracks had already begun to heal, enough to prove that things had reached an end here.

”That’s good... that’s good...”

Tang Haofei nodded vacantly, mumbling as he did, then he felt a hand reaching toward him, like buddies slinging arms around each other’s shoulders.

”You’ve worked hard.”

Wen Yu’s voice sounded beside his ear, and Tang Haofei伸出 his right hand and clamped hard onto Wen Yu’s outstretched wrist.

”I just remembered something else, something called the Deep Sleep Spell...”

...

The smile on Wen Yu’s face gradually faded. He looked at his right wrist, which was being gripped in a death hold, then at Tang Haofei’s blood‑smeared face, and slowly narrowed his eyes.

”Mm, the Deep Sleep Spell...”

Tang Haofei murmured under his breath, as if trying to recall something, while Wen Yu, who had just been about to forcefully carry out the promise he’d made back then, suddenly realized the wrist he’d been grabbed by wouldn’t budge at all.

The difference in strength... was like a chasm between heaven and earth!

”Master... that Deep Sleep Spell... he’s known about it for a long time already...”

The hesitant voice of Nightmare came from his chest, and Wen Yu froze.

Nightmare clearly also sensed that something was off with the current situation; this time he spoke extremely fast.

”When I messed with Walter and Qin Tian, I saw their memories. The one they feared most was this guy in front of you. Ahem, actually, those two were already turned by Tang Haofei long ago. This Tang Haofei is very clear on the plan between you and that old geezer Lin Haifeng.”

That long sentence made Wen Yu’s face suddenly change!

”Why the hell didn’t you say so earlier!”

”I told you I found some fun stuff in their memories; you were the one who wouldn’t let me talk.”

Nightmare’s tone was aggrieved, and this time Wen Yu truly had no way to vent his frustration—in the process of subduing Nightmare, Wen Yu had been anxious to break through the Dimensional Maze and had no time or mental energy to bother with Walter and Qin Tian’s memories.

”Damn it, you’ve screwed me over!”

Cursing inwardly, Wen Yu looked at Tang Haofei’s blank expression, until Tang Haofei’s eyes gradually cleared.

”Mm, I remember now, this time I really remember!”

”You, and Lin Haifeng, and the original Tang Haofei ganged up to screw me over—the Deep Sleep Spell, right?”

Tang Haofei’s tone grew clearer, his words came faster and faster.

”Didn’t I tell you when I went to Africa? I didn’t want to be your enemy, I just wanted to be the Protector God of Yanjing. How did you know the old Tang Haofei would be better than the current me? Mm, I should have said all this back then, right?”

They were clearly questions, but as the words echoed in Wen Yu’s mind, they grew louder and louder.

”Why? Why, when there was obviously no conflict between us, did you insist on making yourself my enemy? Wouldn’t it be fine if we just lived our lives, each minding his own business? Aren’t you the one who hates these schemes and conspiracies the most? So why did you insist on sticking your hand into something like this? Why?”

”Why?”

”Why?”

”Why!?”

His voice grew louder and louder, quickly spreading in all directions.

Each shouted ’why’ startled the distant troops who were already preparing to form up and march back, startled the migrating mutant beast hordes, startled Faceless and Victor resting in front of the Dimensional Maze, startled Fran and Kasu who had just walked out of the Dimensional Maze.

Fran’s face changed drastically; indescribable fear and despair surfaced in his eyes—having the plan exposed meant a falling‑out, and the price of that falling‑out was something no one but Tang Haofei could bear!

Faceless and Victor also straightened up with grave expressions, until Wen Yu’s Spiritual Fluctuation reached them: ”Take Cyclops, Star, and Luo Luo and run, fast!”

As soon as he received the message, Victor used the Netherworld to collect the three slumbering pets, then he and Faceless immediately turned and fled in the opposite direction—because the moment Tang Haofei unleashed his full power on the surface, it meant a cataclysmic, world‑shattering calamity! No living thing—absolutely no living thing—could survive the aftershocks of Tang Haofei’s strikes!

This would be a clash between the two strongest powerful experts currently on Earth! It would be a monster versus monster showdown!

As for the outcome, Victor didn’t even dare think about it...
