Apocalypse: I Raised the Ultimate Antagonist from Scratch

Inside the secondary depot’s central control corridor, the atmosphere was thick, cold, and heavy with tension. The emergency sirens had finally fallen silent, leaving behind only the low, muffled hum of the auxiliary air circulation system and the faint, crimson pulse of status lights that cast long, jagged shadows across the damp concrete walls.

Dust motes floated lazily in the red glow, disturbed by the subtle, rhythmic tremors vibrating through the mountain’s foundation as unseen hands worked on the outer rock face.

Guo Jiong turned away from the primary monitoring console, his hand resting naturally near his holstered sidearm as he addressed the perimeter security officers stationed along the hallway.

His shoulders were squared, his posture hardened by the struggles of surviving in unpredictable wastes. Beside him, Song Yan stood with his arms folded across his chest, his sharp eyes scanning the narrow access choke points leading deeper into the subterranean complex.

”All teams, stay on standby,” Guo Jiong ordered, his gravelly voice echoing down the damp, cold corridor. ”Maintain tight defensive positions at the primary airlock threshold, but do not engage unless explicitly ordered. We don’t know who or what is breaking through that outer frame, but we aren’t taking any unnecessary chances in a confined space.”

Song Yan stepped forward, adding a firm, grim nod. ”Move a secondary detachment to the inner residential quarters immediately. We have nowhere to evacuate if the upper shelf gives way or if the outer breach compromises the structural integrity of this sector. Our only viable option is to hold the line right here. Keep the civilians secured behind the secondary bulkhead and ensure the locking pins are engaged.”

Several guards snapped to attention, the heavy tread of their combat boots crunching against the dusty concrete floor as they split off to reinforce the inner residential zone. The heavy steel bulkhead doors groaned as they were pulled shut, cutting off the dim light from the living quarters and sealing the non-combatants safely behind reinforced metal plating.

Standing near the edge of the monitoring array, Lin Qing watched the guards disperse with quiet, unreadable eyes. The faint vibrations of heavy stone being shifted outside echoed through the overhead ventilation shafts, sending subtle ripples through the small puddles of condensation on the floor.

Though her mind remained a fractured, silent void—devoid of names, past operations, or personal history—her body responded to the heightening atmosphere of impending conflict with fluid, subconscious precision.

She reached into the inner lining of her coat, her fingers closing around the cold, textured grip of the sleek tactical sidearm she had carried on from the time Song Yan rescued her.

Without uttering a word, she drew the weapon in one smooth motion. Her thumb disengaged the safety with an almost imperceptible click, her non-dominant hand rising to check the slide with a clean, practiced flick of her wrist, verifying the chambered round and magazine seating—all within a fraction of a second. Her dark eyes remained entirely calm and focused, her grip firm, natural, and completely steady, as though the firearm were simply an organic extension of her own arm.

Song Yan watched her, a look of quiet astonishment washing over his features. Even though her memories had been completely erased, her physical instincts remained flawless.

She handled the high-caliber firearm not with the cautious hesitation of a civilian, but with the effortless, ingrained discipline of a high-tier operator forged in elite combat protocols. Whoever she had been before losing her past, she had clearly been trained to the absolute absolute peak of military excellence.

”Lin Qing,” Song Yan said softly, stepping closer and lowering his voice so the remaining guards wouldn’t hear. ”You don’t need to stand at the very front line of a breach. If things go wrong out there, you should be behind the secondary bulkhead with the others.”

”I am not going to sit passively behind a locked bulkhead while someone unseals the front door,” Lin Qing replied quietly, her voice entirely steady, lacking even a tremor of fear. She brought the sidearm to a low, disciplined ready position, her dark eyes fixed intently on the reinforced iron seam of the entryway. ”If they come through with hostile intent, holding this corridor is our only advantage.”

Guo Jiong glanced back at her, raising an eyebrow at her posture, but he offered no objection. He had witnessed her skills firsthand before and in a underground bunker with limited manpower, an operator who handled a sidearm with that level of ingrained competence was an undeniable asset, regardless of her missing past.

Outside, the final layers of heavy shale, wet earth, and shattered ice blocks were being pulled clear of the threshold.

Han Zheng stepped back from the recessed doorway, wiping a thin layer of cold grime and sweat from his temple with the back of his glove.

His dark coat was dusted with grey stone powder, but his posture remained rigid and unyielding. With the heavy overhang debris cleared from the upper seam, the structural load indicators along the iron blast frame had finally stabilized, preventing the door from buckling inward under raw physical force.

”Xiao Li, Lieutenant Chen, bring up the heavy crowbars,” Han Zheng commanded, his deep, authoritative voice slicing through the icy mountain fog. ”Force the manual hydraulic latch seam from the top corner. Slowly. Do not shatter the internal gear housing.”

Xiao Li stepped forward, triggering a partial, mineralized layer of stone armor across his arms and shoulders to amplify his physical output. He jammed a heavy steel lever directly into the narrow gap where the outer blast door met the granite cliff face. Beside him, Lieutenant Chen channeled a localized burst of thermal energy along the rusted locking pins, heating the decades-old metal joints just enough to loosen the frozen seals without setting off any lingering pressure charges inside the frame.

With a heavy, screeching groan of protesting iron that echoed wildly across the valley, the auxiliary blast door buckled outward.

Thick clouds of grey dust, stale underground air, and lingering frost poured out of the narrow gap as the heavy seal broke for the first time in years. The cold mountain wind rushed into the breach, swirling the dust into white plumes against the dim emergency lights inside.

Han Zheng stepped through the rising mist first, his boots planting firmly on the concrete threshold. His right hand rested near his sidearm, his kinetic aura humming at a low, suppressed frequency around his shoulders, ready to flatten any immediate ambush.

Behind him, Lieutenant Chen, Xiao Li, Old Wang, and Sun Hao moved in crisp, synchronized tactical formation. Their rifles were raised in a controlled low-ready stance, their eyes sweeping every dark corner, pipe line, and overhead vent shaft of the dimly lit intake corridor.

”Halt! State your business!” Guo Jiong’s voice boomed through the enclosed hallway, amplified by the low ceiling. He stood behind a makeshift barricade of supply crates, his broad frame covering his guards, sidearm leveled directly at the doorway.

Han Zheng didn’t flinch at the sight of the raised barrels pointing at his chest. His sharp, dark eyes swept past the security guards, ignoring the weapons entirely as he methodically scanned the faces gathered in the dimly lit hall.

He didn’t care about the bunker’s security force, the emergency protocol, or the barrels leveled at his heart. He was looking for only one person.

Then, his gaze stopped dead.

Standing near the edge of the main control bay array, wrapped in a thick fleece blanket draped over a dark jacket, stood Lin Qing. Her sidearm was held in a precise, relaxed guard position, her eyes tracking his movement with cold, analytical curiosity. She looked pale, but her posture was sharp, alive, and unmistakably her own.

For a brief, suspended second, the absolute, legendary discipline of Commander Han Zheng shattered completely.

His breath hitched in his throat, catching like broken glass. The stoic, unshakeable aura vanished, replaced by an overwhelming, raw emotional intensity. The agonizing uncertainty, and the unspoken weight of grief—all of it collapsed in an instant beneath the singular reality of her standing before him, alive and unbroken.

He took a slow, heavy step forward, his boots crunching on the dusty concrete, his voice low, raspy, and completely stripped of all formality.

”Lin Qing...”

The security guards held their breath, their fingers tightening on their triggers, but Guo Jiong slowly raised a hand, signaling his men to hold their fire as he recognized Han Zheng and his squad.

Lin Qing met the tall commander’s intense, unwavering gaze. She felt no sudden rush of forgotten memories, no flood of names or familiar voices echoing in her mind—yet as she looked at the man standing in the doorway, her chest tightened with an inexplicable, phantom weight.

Her pulse quickened in a rhythm her mind could not explain, and her fingers eased slightly on the grip of her sidearm. Her body recognized him, his presence, and his voice long before her fractured mind could ever hope to catch up.
