Apocalypse: I Raised the Ultimate Antagonist from Scratch

The piercing, high-frequency emergency alarm cut through the early morning quiet of the residential wing like a physical blow.

The red alert lights spun against the ceiling, casting rhythmic, blood-red arcs across the bare concrete walls. Before the echo of the siren could even fade, the internal intercom flared to life. Sun Hao’s voice boomed through the loudspeakers, stripped entirely of its usual steady calm and laced with a raw, breathless urgency that immediately set the entire bunker on high alert.

”All units, report to the command deck immediately! Ah Hua—get up here right now! Lin Tao’s convoy has reached the perimeter gates, and he’s got a hostage strapped to the front bumper. Ah Hua... it’s your little brother, Ah Ming! He’s alive, and Lin Tao has a gun to his head!”

The announcement shattered the sanctuary’s fragile peace in an instant. The heavy steel door to Ah Hua’s room flew open with a violent crash.

The young soilder didn’t even stop to buckle his tactical vest or grab his standard-issue sidearm; he simply sprinted out into the hallway. He ran through the intersecting turns of the base, his heavy boots slamming fiercely against the floorboards. His lungs burned, and his heart hammered against his ribs in a terrifying, erratic rhythm of pure disbelief and agonizing panic.

Ah Ming was alive. The little brother he thought had perished long ago was standing just outside the gates. He had hoped and prayed in the beginning that he had survived, but after searching everywhere and finding no clues he had already hardened his heart.

It was a pure miracle that the boy had somehow survived the collapse of the civilian shelters, only to be swept up by the mercenaries. But he wasn’t being brought back as a family member; he was being weaponized as a helpless human shield.

Ah Hua burst onto the command deck, completely out of breath, his face pale and sweating despite the cool air of the bunker. He bypassed the structural support pillars and threw his weight against the edge of the central command console, his wide, trembling eyes locking onto the massive, high-definition monitor.

The outdoor security feed was crystal clear. Just outside the perimeter fence, the three ragged mercenary transport trucks idled in the blinding snow, their exhaust pipes belching thick plumes of dark gray smoke into the whiteout.

Standing directly in front of the primary security camera was Lin Tao, glaring into the lens with a manic, triumphant smirk as he shouted into a heavy, battery-powered megaphone. But Ah Hua’s eyes flew right past the captain, zooming straight toward the exterior metal grate of the lead truck’s engine block.

Strapped tightly to the iron bumper with thick, frayed cargo ropes, shivering violently against the cold wind, was a tall, painfully thin teenager covered in coal soot.

His head hung low, his lips blue from the biting cold. Inside the truck cabin, visible through the cracked glass, a loaded mercenary rifle was rigged to a heavy mechanical tripod, its barrel pointed directly through the windshield at the very back of the boy’s head. A thin tripwire ran from the bumper mechanism straight into the cabin’s trigger assembly.

”Ah Ming!” Ah Hua screamed, his voice cracking with a raw, agonizing mixture of horror and desperation. He slammed his fists against the metal console, the steel frame rattling under the impact. His muscles shook violently as he spun around toward the exit, his eyes wild and unhinged. ”Open the gates! I’m going out there right now! I’m going to tear that bastard to pieces! Let me out! Don’t hold me back!”

”Ah Hua, stand down!” Sun Hao yelled, lunging forward to grab the young soilder by his shoulders to hold him back. Two other team members quickly stepped in, forming a physical wall to block the deck’s primary exit.

”Let me go!” Ah Hua roared, thrashing wildly against their grip, his face twisted in pure, unadulterated agony. ”That’s my little brother! He’s freezing to death on that bumper! If Lin Tao steps back into that cabin or trips that wire, the rifle will go off! You can’t just let him stand there and die!”

”If you walk out those gates blindly, Lin Tao will have his men pull the trigger before you even cross the open courtyard,” Lin Qing’s voice cut through the chaos. Her tone was sharp, cold, and entirely commanding, instantly slicing through the thick panic filling the room.

She stepped directly between Ah Hua and the blocked exit, her dark eyes locking onto his frantic, bloodshot gaze with absolute, unyielding intensity.

Ah Hua froze, his chest heaving as he stared at her, the raw authority in her stance momentarily paralyzing his impulse to run.

”Listen to me, Ah Hua,” Lin Qing said, her voice dropping into a precise, calculated register as she reached out and gripped the console’s internal microphone array. ”We are not letting your brother die. But we play this on our terms, not Lin Tao’s. I am going to open a direct audio line to the external courtyard speakers right now. I will engage Lin Tao, trigger his immense arrogance, and keep his eyes completely glued to this security camera. I will buy us every single second we need.”

While Lin Qing successfully drew Ah Hua’s frantic attention and focused the entire command deck on her negotiation strategy, Han Zheng moved like a phantom in the background.

He didn’t need to exchange words with Lin Qing; their understanding was completely seamless, forged through life-and-death encounters on the frozen peaks. With a single, silent nod toward the shadows, Han Zheng stepped back from the main console, his massive, imposing frame slipping out of the command deck’s rear exit without drawing a single eye from the panicked, shouting crew.

Lieutenant Chen also followed behind him quietly without any need for verbal commands.

Once downstairs, Lieutenant Chen’s face temained grim, his hands rested on the manual hydraulic levers of the secondary door. This door was a small, reinforced escape hatch buried deep within the eastern rock face, completely hidden from the view of the main courtyard where Lin Tao’s trucks were idling.

Since Lin Tao possessed no special powers or advanced thermal imaging equipment, he was entirely blind to this side of the mountain structure; he was just an ordinary, desperate thug relying on visual intimidation.

Han Zheng arrived at the hatch, checking the slide of his knife and adjusting the straps of his dark winter tactical gear. The freezing wind howled fiercely against the thick steel seal, vibrating through the iron bolts.

”Open it just enough for me to clear the frame, Lieutenant,” Han Zheng commanded, his voice a low, lethal growl that carried no hesitation. ”The moment I am out, lock it down tight. Don’t leave it open for the wind to drop the internal pressure.”

”Understood, Commander. Good hunting,” Lieutenant Chen replied. He threw his entire weight against the manual lever. The heavy hydraulic gears groaned softly, cracking the secondary door open just a fraction—barely a few inches of space against the roaring whiteout of the blizzard.

Han Zheng turned his broad shoulder, his powerful frame effortlessly slipping through the narrow gap and disappearing instantly into the absolute blindness of the swirling snowstorm. With a swift, heavy thud, Lieutenant Chen slammed the lever back, locking the base down tight and isolating the commander in the freezing dark outside.

The haste and raw panic filtering through the sanctuary had pulled every single soilder and even Dr. Zhou toward the command deck or the defensive monitoring stations. Everyone was focused on the unfolding hostage crisis on the monitors. Nobody was watching the residential corridors.

Deep within the residential suite, the heavy steel door had been left slightly ajar in the initial rush. The door had not clicked fully into its magnetic lock, leaving the mechanism from shutting properly.

A small, dark shadow moved silently through the narrow gap. Five-year-old Han Ye stepped into the dim corridor, his small winter boots making absolutely no sound against the cold concrete floorboards. His dark, calculating eyes were completely devoid of childhood innocence, gleaming instead with the cold, lethal intelligence of a veteran regressor who had lived through the end of the world.

He had listened to every single word of Sun Hao’s frantic broadcast over the room’s secondary speaker. He had seen the trick Lin Tao was using multiple times in his previous life.He knew exactly how fragile human loyalty could be when a loved one’s life was on the line, and he wasn’t about to let this sanctuary fall apart before his eyes.

Leaving the residential wings behind, the young boy turned on his heel. He knew that if he offered to help, he would definitely be turned down and sent back to his room, so he turned down the service corridor and headed straight toward the primary loading bay, his small form melting seamlessly into the shadows of the bunker as the door behind him slowly drifted in the quiet air.
