Apocalypse: I Raised the Ultimate Antagonist from Scratch

The primary command deck of research center was bathed in the harsh, white glare of overhead monitors.

The air inside the room was heavy with unspoken, suffocating tension as Han Zheng stepped up to the main display console. Assembled around the central terminal were Lieutenant Chen, Dr. Zhou, and the remaining members of the elite strike team, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Lu Feng and his squad.

Yang Jun stood near the back of the group, his gloved hands clasped tightly behind his waist. The calm, relaxed posture he had maintained earlier in the quiet of the residential suite had vanished completely, replaced by a forced, rigid stance. Every muscle in his jaw was locked tight under Han Zheng’s cold, penetrating gaze.

”The ravine floor was completely cleared,” Han Zheng began, his deep, resonant voice echoing sharply off the walls of the command deck. ”There was no body, no blood, and no torn tactical gear beneath the avalanche debris. Instead, we found something that seemed like localized gravity compression signatures and a fresh set of boot prints leading directly south into the high mountain ridge.”

Lu Feng shifted his posture slightly, his sharp eyes cutting sideways toward Han Zheng. ”You’re saying she survived that fall and was taken?”

”She was retrieved,” Han Zheng corrected calmly, his voice devoid of panic. ”By an organized, highly disciplined unit possessing abilities. They masked their retreat trail on the sheet-ice, which means they know these mountain passes better than we currently do.”

Han Zheng turned his attention directly toward Yang Jun. The ambient pressure in the command deck seemed to spike instantly, heavy and oppressive.

”Yang Jun,” Han Zheng said softly, though his tone carried the terrifying weight of an iron sledgehammer. ”You were the only one who witnessed everything clearly. Walk me through the exact second the ice cornice fractured again.”

Yang Jun swallowed hard, drawing on every ounce of discipline to keep his voice from trembling violently. ”Commander... the glare off the frost was blinding from my high vantage point. When the ice shelf cracked, the wind shear pushed the falling slab wide. I fired twice to shatter its center mass, but the angle... the ice was far too dense. I failed to break its falling trajectory in time.”

Lieutenant Chen’s eyes narrowed into dark slits, his hand resting near his sidearm, but Lu Feng stepped in smoothly. He placed a heavy, reassuring hand on Yang Jun’s shoulder, stepping slightly forward.

”My sniper made a split-second call under brutal weather conditions, Commander,” Lu Feng said, his tone respectful yet firm as he protected his squadmate. ”We’re all gutted about Lin Qing, but pointing fingers at the sniper who was actively trying to pin the shelf won’t help us find her.”

Han Zheng stared at Yang Jun for three long, seconds. He knew that making direct accusations without hard, physical proof would only fracture the base’s alliance with Lu Feng’s squad—a risk he could not afford while Lin Qing was missing.

”I’m not assigning blame, Captain Lu,” Han Zheng said quietly, breaking the heavy silence. ”However, until we pull the full high-altitude satellite topographies of the southern ridge and map out every structure in the sector, surface reconnaissance is paused.”

He looked back at Yang Jun and Zhao Lei.

”Since surface operations are halted for the time being, I need you two down in the lower armory rooms,” Han Zheng ordered, his tone completely matter-of-fact. ”Re-catalog the heavy ordnance crates and audit the remaining high-caliber armor-piercing rounds. It needs to be finished fast.”

Yang Jun internally let out a massive, suffocating breath of relief. It was a tedious, mind-numbing punishment detail, but it meant he was not under arrest or direct suspicion. ”Understood, Commander. I’ll get right on it.”

High above the command deck, tucked seamlessly into the dark, pitch-black shadows of the ventilation shaft, Han Ye watched the whole exchange with cold eyes.

’My father is keeping him busy and isolated,’ Han Ye analyzed silently, his mind clicking with terrifying clarity. ’With Yang Jun stuck down in the lower armory for a long amount of time, his personal room will be completely unguarded.’

Using his shadow manipulation, the small regressor melted deeper into the darkness of the vents, gliding silently through the upper duct system toward the residential wing to search Yang Jun’s personal bunk for physical proof.

Deep beneath the mountain core, two miles to the south...

The air in the underground medical bay was cool, bone-dry, and smelled faintly of iron, ozone, and dried pine resin.

Lin Qing’s eyes snapped open.

There was no gradual awakening, no disoriented blinking, and no vocal reaction. The exact moment her consciousness surfaced from the dark void of her mind, her instincts took complete control of her body.

She didn’t move a single muscle, keeping her breathing slow, shallow, and steady while her sharp eyes darted across the ceiling, calculating the dim emergency lighting, the stone walls, and the sound of soft, measured footsteps approaching the heavy door.

Her head throbbed with a severe, dull concussive ache, and a blinding, suffocating fog shrouded her past. She did not know her name, where she came from, or why she was lying on a metal cot inside what seemed like an underground bunker. But her body remembered how to kill.

The steel door creaked open on heavy hinges, and Song Yan stepped inside, carrying a fresh tray of clean linen bandages and a metal cup of water.

The second his boot crossed the threshold, Lin Qing exploded into action.

Despite the blinding concussion spike that flared behind her eyes, she vaulted off the cot like a striking phantom. In one fluid, terrifying movement, she closed the distance between them, swept Song Yan’s lead leg with her boot, and struck his wrist with a sharp palm strike, sending the metal tray clattering loudly to the stone floor.

Before Song Yan could even draw a breath, she pinned his arm behind his back, jammed her knee violently into his spine, and pressed a knife—snatched directly from his belt loop—flush against the side of his pulse point.

The entire brutal ambush took less than two seconds.

Song Yan did not panic. He froze instantly, holding his breath as he felt the razor-sharp edge of his own blade resting against his skin. His hazel eyes widened in sheer, genuine astonishment—not just at her speed, but at the sheer, cold lethality of a woman who had been comatose two hours prior.

”Who are you?” Lin Qing rasped, her voice ice-cold, sharp, and completely void of fear. Her dark eyes were calculating and merciless, assessing his fatigue shirt, his stance, and the structural integrity of the bunker corridor behind him. ”Where am I?”

Song Yan slowly raised his free hand, keeping his fingers spread and his movements completely non-threatening.

”You’re in a secondary subterranean military depot,” Song Yan answered calmly, his voice steady and low. ”My name is Song Yan. I’m the leader of the survivor group here. I suggest you check the table to your right before you cut my throat.”

Lin Qing’s cold eyes flicked sideways for a fraction of a second, without her grip loosening on his neck. Resting on the wooden table next to the cot was a high-grade military sidearm—fully loaded, untouched, and placed right where she could reach it the moment she stood up.

”If I wanted you dead, caged, or disarmed, I wouldn’t have left your primary weapon sitting next to your bed,” Song Yan added softly, remaining perfectly still. ”You fell three hundred feet off the north ridge cliff. I caught you with a localized gravity field right before you hit the frozen riverbed.”

Lin Qing felt the truth in his words, but she did not relax her stance instantly. She slowly stepped back, releasing his pinned arm and lowering the knife, though her posture remained low, guarded, and ready to strike at the slightest hostile shift in his body language.

She looked down at herself for the first time, taking in her sleek, high-grade tactical vest, reinforced cold-weather trousers, and the polished alloy rank clip attached to her high collar.

A sharp, hollow ache pulled at the back of her mind—a terrifying realization that while her muscle memory was flawless and lethal, her identity, her home, her connections, and her memories were completely erased.

Song Yan turned around slowly, rubbing his neck where the cold steel blade had rested. A faint, admiring smile touched his lips despite the lingering danger in the room.

”You’ve got a hell of a reaction time for someone suffering from a severe concussion,” Song Yan said, reaching down to pick up the fallen cup from the stone floor. ”Do you remember your name? Or where your unit is stationed?”

Lin Qing stood straight, her face becoming a cold, unreadable mask despite the storm raging inside her mind. She looked past him toward the heavy steel door, sensing the vast, frozen world outside.

”No,” Lin Qing replied plainly, her voice sharp and detached. ”I don’t. But whoever I am... I know I don’t belong down here.”
