Apocalypse: I Raised the Ultimate Antagonist from Scratch

The impact hit with the sudden, violent force of an unexpected avalanche.

Before the hypnotist’s finger could apply the final fraction of pressure against the trigger of his silenced pistol, Lin Qing’s sprinting frame collided full-force into Han Zheng’s motionless body. The momentum of her tackle threw them both sideways across the slick, frost-coated concrete floor, violently severing the unbroken line of sight between Han Zheng’s glossy eyes and the glowing, swirling violet irises of the trench-coated enforcer.

To the outside world, the physical collision took less than a second.

Inside the locked, suffocating depths of Han Zheng’s hypnotized mind, however, time stretched into an absolute, timeless infinity.

---

One moment, Han Zheng had been standing in the cold, shadow-drenched gloom of the subterranean warehouse, surrounded by the deafening rattle of gunfire and the bitter, suffocating tang of ozone and diesel exhaust.

The next, the darkness abruptly dissolved into a blinding, golden light.

The suffocating pressure trapping his central nervous system vanished instantly, replaced by a strange, profound lightness that felt entirely foreign to his battle-hardened soul. Han Zheng blinked, his eyes adjusting to a vast, boundless horizon bathed in gentle, radiant sunshine. The bitter cold draft was gone, replaced by a soft, warm breeze that carried the sweet, delicate fragrance of wild earth and fresh grass.

He was standing in the middle of an endless, rolling meadow of vibrant green grass, dotted with thick clusters of blooming blue and white wildflowers that rippled like quiet silk under a crystal-clear, endless blue sky.

There were no burning ruins here. No mutated zombies prowling through frozen wastes, no rifles, no blood, and no suffocating burden of survival weighing down his chest.

For the first time, Han Zheng felt an uncharacteristic, overwhelming sense of unbroken peace.

He stood motionless in the center of the warm field, his calloused hands resting loosely at his sides. His hyper-vigilant instincts—always dialed to high alert, always anticipating the next ambush—slumbered in deep, quiet stillness.

Then, cutting softly through the tranquil silence of the sunlit field, a sound echoed nearby.

It was a bright, melodic, and completely innocent giggle—a child’s laughter filled with delight.

Han Zheng turned his head slowly toward the sound. A short distance away through the waving green grass, Han Ye was running through the wildflower patches, his small feet kicking up loose petals as he chased a bright yellow butterfly. The dark, eerie shadow energy that usually curled around the young boy was nowhere to be seen; he was simply a happy, thriving child playing beneath an unblemished sky.

A quiet, almost imperceptible warmth spread through Han Zheng’s chest as he watched his son.

A moment later, a second sound drifted across the warm breeze—soft, gentle, and carrying a low, melodious cadence.

It was a laugh. Not the cold, sharp command of a ruthless base commander, nor the polite, distant tone she offered to outsiders, but a rare, genuine, and profoundly beautiful laugh that Han Zheng had never once heard in the waking world.

Han Zheng’s gaze shifted past the flower patches. Standing a few yards away near the crest of the small green hill was Lin Qing.

She wasn’t wearing her blood-stained tactical vest or combat boots. She wore simple, light clothes, her hair unpinned and swaying gently in the warm wind. Her clear, striking eyes were fixed on Han Ye, and her face—usually locked in an unyielding mask of focus—was softened by a radiant, breathtaking smile as she called out to the boy.

Han Zheng felt an magnetic, subconscious pull deep within his chest. Without thinking, his feet began to move. He took a slow, deliberate step forward through the tall grass, his eyes locked entirely on Lin Qing’s peaceful expression, drawn to the quiet sanctuary she and the boy created together.

He reached out his hand, his fingers extending toward her—

CRASH!

The bright blue sky fractured like glass. The sunlit field, the waving grass, and the warm breeze were violently torn to shreds as reality tore back into his consciousness with the shattering weight of an iron hammer.

---

Han Zheng’s eyes snapped wide open on the hard, freezing concrete floor of the warehouse.

The illusion was instantly shattered. The cold air rushed back into his lungs like ice water, and his mind cleared with absolute, hyper-focused lucidity in less than a second.

As he lay flat on his back, he felt the heavy weight of Lin Qing pressed firmly against his chest from her desperate tackle. Her breath was coming in quick, shallow rasps against his neck, her arms still wrapped tightly around his shoulders to keep him down.

Because of her position on top of him, her back was completely turned toward the hypnotist—and fully exposed to the open aisle.

”Target acquired,” the trench-coated enforcer sneered softly, his glowing violet eyes narrowing as he adjusted his weapon’s sightline, aiming his pistol directly at the center of Lin Qing’s exposed spine from ten feet away.

He pulled the trigger.

Pfft!

The suppressed muzzle flash flared in the dark.

Han Zheng’s reaction didn’t rely on physical speed—it operated on raw, instinctual reflexes. Snapping out of the hypnosis, his eyes locked onto the incoming high-velocity bullet the instant it left the barrel.

Before the lead round could cover even half the distance to Lin Qing’s back, Han Zheng thrust his right palm straight upward past her shoulder.

BOOM!

A hyper-dense, localized wall of kinetic energy materialized in the empty air three inches above Lin Qing’s shoulder. The invisible barrier compressed with such immense density that the incoming bullet slammed directly into it with a loud, metallic CLANG, its energy completely cancelled as the lead projectile flattened into a useless copper pancake and dropped harmlessly to the concrete floor.

Lin Qing flinched slightly at the sudden metallic crack right beside her ear, but before she could even turn her head, Han Zheng’s dark eyes locked onto the stunned hypnotist.

”My turn,” Han Zheng spat, his voice dropping into a lethal, icy whisper.

Without rising from the ground, Han Zheng slammed his open palm downward against the concrete floor beneath him.

THUMMMMM!

A terrifying, concussive kinetic shockwave erupted from his palm, ripping through the concrete like a tidal wave. The violent floor tremor traveled straight down the central aisle, shattering the floorboards and slamming directly into the hypnotist’s chest with the force of a speeding semi-truck.

The trench-coated enforcer let out a choked spray of blood as the kinetic blast lifted him completely off his feet, launching him thirty feet backward into a massive stack of industrial wooden pallets. The wooden crates collapsed in a violent spray of splintered lumber, completely burying the hypnotist and knocking him unconscious.

---

”Are you back?” Lin Qing asked immediately, her voice steady despite her elevated heart rate as she pushed herself up off his chest and looked down into his clear, focused eyes.

Han Zheng sat up smoothly, his hand instinctively supporting her elbow as they both stood back up into a combat stance. ”I’m back. Thank you.”

Across the burning warehouse floor, Gao Feng watched his second powered user get crushed into the debris with absolute, wide-eyed horror.

”No... impossible!” Gao Feng screamed, his scarred face twisting in frantic, unhinged desperation. Both of his powered enforcers were down, six of his nine elite mercenaries were dead or incapacitated, and Lin Qing’s armored transport was completely holding the main exit routes.

Gao Feng knew he was outmatched. In a sudden, frantic maneuver, he spun on his heel and sprinted directly toward the rear fuel storage bay.

”If I’m dying here, none of you are leaving with those supplies!” Gao Feng roared, unholstering an emergency orange flare gun from his belt.

He aimed the flare gun directly at a heavy, leaking high-pressure diesel storage canister stationed right beside the central medical generators.

”Stop him!” Lu Feng shouted from the catwalk, swinging his rifle around, but Gao Feng was already pulling the trigger.

FZZZZ-BOOM!

The super-heated flare struck the leaking fuel seam.

A violent, roaring wall of orange flame erupted instantly, expanding outward with a deafening WHOOSH that blew out the surrounding glass windows and illuminated the dark warehouse in blinding light. The sudden thermal pressure ignited adjacent supply crates, spreading thick, suffocating black smoke rapidly toward the ceiling rafters and setting off a terrifying chain reaction near the main diesel reserves.

”Primary fuel bay compromised!” Ah Hua bellowed over the roar of the flames, shielding his face as intense heat washed across his position. ”The structural steel is warping! The whole roof is coming down!”

”Fall back!” Han Zheng commanded, his heavy voice cutting through the panic as he grabbed the handles of the primary medical generator transport cart. ”Ah Hua, Xiao Li, clear the extraction path! Move out to the transport now!”

---

The squad moved with frantic, disciplined efficiency, pushing the high-value medical generators and weapons crates through the billowing smoke toward the rear loading gate where the armored transport’s engine was still roaring.

Lin Qing took up the rear position, firing her sidearm to suppress a surviving mercenary who tried to intercept the generator cart.

As she crossed the high-threshold archway leading out of the burning fuel storage bay, the super-heated metal overhead groaned under extreme stress.

CREEEAAAK—CRACK!

Directly above Lin Qing’s head, a massive, thirty-foot secondary diesel reserve tank burst under the immense heat pressure. A shockwave tore through the bay ceiling, unleashing a lethal spray of jagged steel shrapnel and a towering wall of liquid fire aimed straight at her exposed side!

Han Zheng, who was ten feet ahead guiding the generator cart, spun around in raw terror. ”Lin Qing!”

He lunged back toward her, raising his hand to cast a kinetic wall, but he was too far away—the violent explosion was expanding too fast!

In that fraction of a second, as lethal shrapnel and roaring fire hurtled directly toward Lin Qing, an almost miraculous twist of fate occurred.

The intense heat from the primary fuel fire had completely melted the heavy structural iron hinges of a massive, double-reinforced steel door mounted twenty feet up on the wall.

At the exact, microscopic split-second before the fiery blast reached Lin Qing, the three-ton iron blast door snapped free from its melted welds. Driven by pure gravity and the angle of the wall, the massive steel slab plummeted downward like a falling shield, slamming into the concrete floor with a deafening ’THUD’ right beside Lin Qing’s feet.

BOOOOOOM!

The exploding diesel canister slammed directly into the outer face of the fallen iron fire door.

The three-ton steel barrier completely absorbed the terrifying thermal shockwave and lethal shrapnel, deflecting the entire wall of flame safely over Lin Qing’s head. She didn’t suffer a single burn, nor did a single piece of flying metal touch her skin. She simply stood behind the miraculously fallen iron shield, completely unscathed as the inferno raged harmlessly on the other side.

Lin Qing didn’t waste a second marveling at her incredible fortune. She stepped around the fallen door, vaulted over the rubble, and grabbed Han Zheng’s outstretched hand as he reached her side.

”I’m fine! Move!” she said firmly.

Together, they sprinted out of the collapsing facility and leaped through the open side hatch of the heavy armored transport.

”Da Yong, hit it!” Han Zheng roared the instant their boots cleared the doorway.

Da Yong slammed his foot onto the accelerator. The heavy transport’s diesel engine roared to life, its massive snowplow ramming through the remaining rubble of the rear gate and tearing out into the howling whiteout of the blizzard just as the entire roof of the commercial distribution complex collapsed inward with a resounding, thunderous crash.

Inside the dark, red-lit compartment of the moving transport, the heavy silence returned, saved for the rhythmic hum of the tires cutting through the fresh snow.

Han Zheng sat against the reinforced hull, his dark eyes quietly fixing on Lin Qing as she checked the digital diagnostics of the secured medical generators beside him.

His mind briefly drifted back to the warm, quiet field of wildflowers—and the sound of her soft laughter echoing in the sun.
