Naruto: Reborn as Konoha's Idol

Chapter 192: Chapter 192: Under Attack

”Where are you now?”

”I’m currently heading to the Hidden Mist Village in the Land of Water.”

”Then be careful. An intern from the organization went to find you. He’s been delirious since he woke up, and we couldn’t stop him. His name is Tobi, and he wears a swirl mask. You need to be cautious.”

Kano thought for a moment; this was Uchiha Obito coming for her. She figured she might as well see if she could resolve the hidden threat he posed. After all, there was a reason he had turned bad, and perhaps there was still hope of saving him.

”Alright, I understand. I’ll be careful.”

”By the way, since you’re going to the Land of Water, it’s perfect. Hidan and Kakuzu have a mission there as well. If you run into them, feel free to give them a hand. The mission difficulty should be moderate—just killing one person—but the reward is substantial.”

”Okay, I’ll keep an eye out.”

”That’s all for now. See you later.”

”Mm, goodbye, Sister Konan.”

The other party deactivated the Magic Lantern Body Technique, and Kano put her ring away.

Since Nagato wasn’t controlling it this time and Konan was just sending a message alone, there was only sound without a full projection.

”Who was that? Are you hitting on other women again?”

Ino poked Kano’s shoulder mischievously.

”It’s an older sister; she’s quite nice.”

”I heard something about an organization. Did you join another one behind my back without taking me?”

”It’s an organization that pursues world peace.”

”Is it really that noble?!”

”It is pretty noble, though not everyone in it is a good person... well, there are a few good ones.”

”Can I join?”

”Not really. At minimum, everyone there is as strong as a Hokage. With your current strength, you’d likely die if you joined, and I don’t want you in danger.”

”But you’re in it! Are you actually stronger than Master?”

”Didn’t she tell you the story of how I beat the three of them by myself?”

”What story?”

”The one where I beat up Master Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru all at once.”

”You’re saying you beat up the Sannin? Hahaha, you’re bragging again. If you don’t want me to join, just say so; you don’t need to make up such ridiculous stories.”

Kano sighed helplessly. She had never lied to Ino since they were kids and shared everything with her, yet Ino simply wouldn’t believe her.

Kano wasn’t afraid of them overhearing; after all, it wasn’t a very important matter. She didn’t like keeping secrets bottled up inside.

She preferred sharing secrets to let others share the burden. Ino was the one she told the most, but unfortunately, Ino didn’t believe much of it and just took it as entertainment.

The one suffering the most was Tsunade, who had no choice but to believe and then had to worry about those secrets. She had even begged Kano not to tell her anything else, as the more she knew, the more exhausted she became.

Kano didn’t care; she felt it was necessary to put some pressure on the adults.

However, mentioning that Kakuzu and Hidan were coming to kill someone suggested there was another high-bounty target nearby. If the target was a bad person, Kano wouldn’t mind helping Kakuzu and the other finish the job. If it was a good person, she wanted to save them.

Not to mention she was traveling with Asuma, a man whose name was prominent on the bounty list at the bounty exchange.

Hmm... I have a bad feeling about this. Ino–Shika–Chō plus Asuma, and the potential appearance of Kakuzu and Hidan.

Better be careful... Several days passed. During this time, Kano didn’t use Shadow Exchange to return to Konoha much. She only went home to report she was safe every few days during breaks.

They spent their nights resting in the carriage. Four girls slept together, with Kano in the middle hugging them on both sides; it was incredibly pleasant.

The Land of Water and the Land of Fire were quite far apart, with many small countries in between. As the group passed through those small nations, an accident occurred, as expected.

Two people wearing red cloud robes appeared.

”Everyone, would you like to believe in Lord Jashin?”

Hidan and Kakuzu swaggered out and blocked the carriage, full of confidence because they had already scouted the group’s background.

Two Jonin, one Chunin, and the other five were Genin. Kakuzu felt he could easily handle one Jonin and one Chunin, and Hidan could certainly take the other Jonin. The remaining Genin trash were negligible; they could be killed at any moment.

Kano looked at them, speechless.

Oh no, they’re coming for me!

Kano wasn’t stupid. Hidan and Kakuzu were all about making money. They wouldn’t proactively seek out someone like Asuma, who wasn’t cost-effective, nor had they bothered Mei Terumī in the original story.

In terms of being in the limelight, it was likely her.

This meant someone had put a bounty on Kano.

Kano wondered if she had offended anyone. Why was there a bounty on her? Could it be because she had stepped on some capitalist’s toes?

Not just Kano, even Shikamaru had guessed most of it. He had long felt his sister was attracting too much attention, which was why he asked Asuma to come along.

Shikamaru knew Asuma’s strength very well; he was a top-tier fighter among the Jonin. Having Asuma along provided a lot more peace of mind.

Mei Terumī and Asuma immediately stood guard in front of the carriage. Facing these two ill-intentioned and dangerous individuals, they were both on high alert.

”A waistcloth with the character for ’Fire’? There’s actually one of the Guardian Shinobi Twelve here. Looks like there’s extra money to be made. Kakuzu, take this seriously this time.”

”konoha songstress, stay back. Leave this to Mr. Asuma and me.”

Shikamaru also immediately shielded Kano. Even though his sister was much stronger than him, protecting her was a brother’s instinct.

”Don’t worry, Asuma is very strong.”

”Mm, I believe Teacher Asuma and Sister Mei Terumī will protect me.”

Kano pretended to be weak and shrank back. To anyone looking, she was just a helpless child, covering her face with a look of pure terror.

In reality, Kano was dying of laughter. She was just wondering how to kill Hidan, and here he was, delivering himself to her door. Not killing him now would be an insult to Kakuzu the deliveryman.

Honestly, the Zombie Duo encountering Kano was like a mouse meeting a cat, a married woman meeting Cao Cao, or a little girl meeting a lolicon—

”Immortal and having multiple lives, right? Can your soul be immortal too? Can you withstand the Reaper Death Seal?”

As soon as Shikamaru saw his silly sister pretending to be weak, he knew this fight was in the bag.

If Kano weren’t 100% sure, she would have summoned Shadow Ninja for protection long ago, instead of sitting in the carriage barefoot like she was now.

”Be careful. The one with the mask has five hearts and must be killed five times to die. The other one is immortal and uses blood to cast curses. Be careful not to let his weapon scratch you.”

Kano still revealed the enemies’ intel to prevent her companions from getting injured. She didn’t want to see that happen.

”Oh? You actually know our secrets? I really underestimated you. In that case, I definitely can’t let you live.”

Kakuzu’s killing intent manifested instantly, freezing the group of children in their tracks with fear.

Asuma also re-evaluated his tactics. Kano was truly reliable; she could even get intel on such mysterious enemies. If they hadn’t known about these two’s abilities, they might have actually been caught off guard and killed.

Kano’s worth just keeps on rising!
