Chapter 699: Chapter 9: Old Priest

Fuyuki City Downtown Street, Kotomine Church.

Dong, dong, dong...

The bell in the clock tower on the church’s rooftop chimed, indicating it was already 6 AM.

Pedestrians walked by the church entrance, beginning their busy day.

The Kotomine Church was lavishly decorated, with a considerable area. Inside, the tables and chairs were neatly arranged and cleaned regularly.

A young nun knelt before the cross inside the church, clasping her hands together in devout prayer.

”Hannah, you are the first to pray every day. This earnest willpower will make you different from others.”

An old but vigorous voice came, and an old priest with a head full of white hair walked up behind the nun.

The nun, with her eyes closed, twitched her eyelids but did not open them, continuing her prayer.

Seeing this scene, Father Kotomine Li Zheng smiled gently. He did not interrupt the nun’s prayer; such devout young people were rare. After a long time, Nun Hannah opened her eyes.

”Father Li Zheng, I’m sorry, just now I...”

”No need to apologize. It’s I who disturbed you. For the next month, don’t come to the church to pray. You can pray in the monastery as long as your heart is devout enough.”

”But...”

The nun Hannah looked a bit flustered.

”Recently, things haven’t been peaceful in Fuyuki City. You must pay attention to your safety. I don’t want anything to happen to a devout believer like you.”

”Hmm, I understand. Thank you, Father Li Zheng.”

Nun Hannah stood up and headed straight to the storage room. She planned to clean the church, although there were people assigned to do this, she liked it to be spotless, as those people always slacked off.

The old priest Kotomine Li Zheng sat on a long bench inside the church. Recently, he was in a good mood, seeming to see the Holy Grail waving at him.

Just as the old priest pondered over the Bible, footsteps came from behind him. At first, he thought it was Nun Hannah, but he soon realized it was not right.

Kotomine Li Zheng turned his head to see a young man in a black windbreaker. Instinctively, the old priest glanced at the man’s hand, a habitual action of his lately.

After confirming the man’s hand was empty and showed no trace of magic power, the old priest breathed a sigh of relief.

That was the benefit of drawing a curse mark; it could be erased when necessary.

Kotomine Li Zheng didn’t look at Su Xiao anymore. He assumed Su Xiao was there to pray, as the Kotomine Church was open to the public from 6 AM to 3 PM every day.

Su Xiao glanced at Kotomine Li Zheng, then sat on a nearby long bench.

”Father.”

Su Xiao spoke, and Kotomine Li Zheng looked slightly puzzled.

”Young man, do you have something to say?”

Kotomine Li Zheng smiled at Su Xiao. That was his outward image: upright and humble.

”Father, I need to confess.”

Su Xiao instinctively wanted to take out a cigarette but hesitated for a moment, not taking it out.

”Confess?”

Kotomine Li Zheng sized up Su Xiao, hesitated for a moment, and nodded.

”Come with me.”

Kotomine Li Zheng led the way to a small wooden cabin on the side of the church. The cabin wasn’t big, and it was divided in half by a wooden board. This was the confessional, meant for confession.

Su Xiao and Kotomine Li Zheng each entered a cabin, with a wooden board separating them. For the convenience of transferring sound, there were many small holes on the board.

Kotomine Li Zheng cleared his throat and placed his hand on the Bible.

”Child, confess now! God is listening...”

Kotomine Li Zheng had hosted such confessions many times and was extremely adept at it.

”Oh, I have killed people.”

”Hmm? Who did you kill? Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.”

Though he claimed he wouldn’t disclose it, the old priest had already noted Su Xiao’s appearance in his mind, planning to report it to the police later.

The old priest was not a magician; though proficient in Bajiquan and physically robust, his actual combat strength was not so strong.

”Killed... many people, too many to remember specifically.”

”An approximate number will do.”

The old priest sighed, defining Su Xiao as a young man seeking thrills in his mind.

”Approximately, around dozens.”

Su Xiao used a euphemism, making the old priest sigh again, shaking his head helplessly. However, the old priest had professional ethics and didn’t interrupt the confession.

”With what method?”

”With a knife.”

This time, the old priest started feeling helpless, not caring about Su Xiao’s appearance anymore, just assuming he encountered a delusional young man.

”Continue describing the process.”

”Sure.”

Su Xiao lit a cigarette with his finger and began narrating his ’killing process.’

”Generally speaking...”

After hearing Su Xiao’s description, Kotomine Li Zheng’s expression began to change. If the other party wasn’t in a special profession, then the other party indeed had killed.

However, the old priest didn’t know that it was just the beginning.

In the next ten minutes, the old priest’s expression turned increasingly grim. Twenty minutes later, the old priest was drenched in cold sweat.

The old priest looked through the small holes on the side of the wooden board. If he wasn’t mistaken, the person next door was extremely dangerous.

As his gaze passed through the small holes, he discovered a pair of eyes looking at him. This scene almost made the old priest jump out of his seat.

”Where was I? Oh, whether or not I regret after killing. My answer is no. Upon picking up the knife, one must have corresponding determination. The quickest way to resolve conflict is to silence one side. It has always been that way. However, Father Li Zheng, I have answered so many of your questions, could you answer one of mine?”

Su Xiao scratched his cheek with his finger. The high-tech mask he wore had a good disguise effect, but it was a bit itchy, like wearing a face mask.

As for his previous confession to Kotomine Li Zheng, most of it was nonsense. Telling the truth to a potential enemy was the height of foolishness. As for confession, it was just an excuse to find a place to talk to Kotomine Li Zheng alone.

”What question?”

The old priest silently took out his phone. He always felt that although his taijutsu skills were good, facing the man next door, he would be instantly killed. It was a gut feeling, so he wanted to contact Kirei Kotomine, who was his son.

”Where is Liu Dong Temple, or rather, how can one enter the current Liu Dong Temple?”

Upon hearing Su Xiao’s question, the old priest’s pupils constricted.

”Why do you want to go there? If you wish to confess, you can do it here. Going there...”

Benevolence arose in the old priest’s heart. He did not want Su Xiao to go to Liu Dong Temple; it was hell. Even if this young man had killed and sinned, he shouldn’t go there to suffer.

”I plan to confess to the monk at Liu Dong Temple too. Perhaps it would be more effective?”

”...”

The old priest remained silent, unable to respond.

”Father.”

”Hmm?”

The old priest instinctively looked toward Su Xiao in the neighboring partition.

”If I assume you want to call the police when you pull out your phone during my confession, is that correct?”

A crimson metal bracer appeared on Su Xiao’s left hand. It was just the hidden ability of the equipment attached with the Reincarnation Mark. With the equipment hidden, passive abilities were effective, but active skills could not be used. For example, weapons couldn’t be used for attacks once hidden.

Su Xiao’s finger hooked, and the phone in the old priest’s hand was cut into two pieces.
